1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable - black screen bug

Pros: Initially I loved the camera- good video and sound, but it seems to be getting more and more problems.

Cons: After a few days of driving on 5 minute loop setting, the camera just stopped working. It turns on with ignition, and sounds the chime (and turns off when the power is lost) the recording LED is blinking red-blue.

It says recording on screen, the timer is counting (so the screen is working). But there's no video output on the screen. And when I checked, indeed, there's no videos being saved on the memory card. The card says there's 500mb free space left.

I wish I could give -5 eggs for the fact that you can be driving around, thinking that you have dashcam, but it's actually just pretending to work.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Just got this and tested on the drive home from work while listening to an audiobook. Upon review, I was really impressed with the quality of sound - the engine noise is barely audible, while the voice is clear. Driving on highway there's some static, not sure what was causing it.

Image quality is excellent, as I was driving through the city with streetlamps, then highway with headlights. I could read the liscence plate of a car in front of me from about 8 feet in front of the car, after that it gets fuzzy. Could read road signs on a highway at night from about 100 feet, after that it's fuzzy.

Checked the GPS - it's dead on (except it took me a while to realize that 077 actually is -77, otherwise you get an address in China or something)

Mounting was easy, after about 5 minutes I found a good spot behind the mirror, routed the USB cable through the passenger's sunshield, so it's hanging outside my field of vision. Very low profile, the camera blocks just a square inch or so this way.

Reviewing the video, the on screen display is awesome - shows GPS, time, speed and potentially your liscence plate number to make it absolutely certain you recorded this video

Cons: Black screen bug - there are 4 buttons on device, and there's some way to turn the camera on so it shows black screen (while it should show live camera feed). Pressing record does nothing. The timer is counting, pressing stop recording shows a spinner. Turning the camera off leaves no video on the device.

I observed the black screen bug 3 times now, and it would be a show stopper - I want to be absolutely sure the camera turns on when the power is supplied. I don't want to think about debugging a dash cam before my morning commute.

Reading the instruction, it says in big letters twice not to leave the camera mounted outside for extended periods of time. It does not say how long. Is it a day? week? A month? It seems that this is because sunlight might damage the sensor.

Not being able to mount the device outside and leave it there introduces additional hassle of mounting and demounting, while I would rather just leave the camera in the car all the time.

Together, the black screen and having to unmount it means this is not quite the "peace of mind" product that I was looking for, but other features are amazing.

Other Thoughts: I think this could work for a quadcopter or some other aerial video. Having GPS and speed built in is awesome, not sure about battery life

5 out of 5 eggsojocam dashcam review

Pros: small size, great video, easy set-up, great response from ojocam concerning questions about dashcam.

Cons: user's manual could be more detailed. I sent emails to ojocam with my questions concerning set up and operation.

Other Thoughts: Dash cam runs on 5vdc so you have to use/buy their power supply wire if you want to hardwire the dash cam in your vehicle. Once you mount the base on your windshield, it is stuck there so be sure before you remove the cover on the sticky tape. So far I am enjoying playing with my new toy.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy, Reliable, Excellent Qualtiy

Pros: This dash cam is easy to setup, install, & use. It takes great quality pictures, video, audio, and has a good frame rate. It has been very reliable mounted on my truck's windshield. The included software does not require any installation. While showing the video it looks up the coordinates and pins you on the map. This camera also shows you current speed in MPH or KPH.

Cons: For me the recording is in multiple files, largest being about 7 minutes. It's not a huge deal, would just be nice to press play and fast forward a single clip instead of searching through 30-40 clips.

Other Thoughts: I installed this onto my 2006 Silverado windshield and wired it into my rearview mirror for power. When I need to review the footage I simply slide the memory card out of the bottom of the camera. The camera can also be removed from the windshield with a simple motion. I was so impressed with the quality of this camera, it's probably better than my Note 3's 4k video!

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect

Pros: - Small size.
- Cables were very easy to hide along trim.
- Chimes to indicate when it is powering on/off.
- Comes with a MicroSD from the get go.
- Viewing is decent and the tools provided are sufficient.
- Daytime viewing is great and night time video is adequate enough.

Cons: - Main issue that was resolved was a bad charger for the unit. Support was able to send a new and sturdier one right away.
- Setting the time on the unit is a bit finicky. It's just a matter of fine tuning.

Other Thoughts: Great dash cam with a good amount of features. Also comes with a MicroSD card that is compatible with the unit.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: 1080p. HDMI and USB. wide Field of view.

Cons: Horrible battery life. I just leave it plugged in all the time, otherwise it will turn off, even with full battery.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: I really like this little cam. The video quality is superb. It has lots of user selectable options.

The GPS is nice to have, especially with the included mapping software. However, watching the videos with the included mapping software are jerky.

Videos are on *.mov format.

The tiny screen is helpful compared to other dashcams that do not have a screen. The fact you can wire it to a power source that turns it on and off with the car's ignition is priceless. I needed a dashcam that was truly set it and forget it. My wife would not use it otherwise. The camera is definitely worth 5 eggs but the mount is sadly limited in its location options. I would happily give it 5 eggs if the mount were adjustable. See cons.

Cons: This dashcam's sticky mount is its Achilles heel. The mount's sticky surface is NOT on the same plane as the viewing angle as the camera. This means when the dashcam is attached to the mount you can see the camera's view tilts slightly to the right. In order to get the camera pointed straight down the road so the centerline of the road is in the center of your videos, you need to mount the dashcam somewhere to the left of the inside rearview mirror. However, this cam is meant to be mounted just to the right of the mirror. When mounted to the right of the mirror, your videos will have the road ahead off center and skewed to the left. How much to the left depends upon the amount of curvature of your windshield.

Also, you need to take great care to make sure you secure the mount parallel to the horizon. If you aren't careful your videos will be cockeyed.

I am fussy and like my videos to be parallel to the horizon and the centerline of the road to be dead center in the screen. What this mount really needs is some way to make slight adjustments.

While it appears this cam can be rotated to suit multiple mounting options other than on the windshield, that is not the case. You can only rotate it 90 degrees max. Mounting it on the dash is not an option. Mounting it overhead MIGHT work, depending upon your auto.

Other Thoughts: Ojocam has succeeded in making a super tiny cam loaded with tons of options. The video is sharp and clear. Colors are very good and stands up well with limited lighting at night. For the price this is a no-brainer.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on SD cards

Pros: Just an update for my previous review regarding different SD cards....

Cons: OK, going to add a con in that it does not support 64GB cards...

Other Thoughts: OK, I'm a D.A.... The manual clearly says "up to 32GB SD cards". I received the 64GB card listed in my previous review, put it in the dashcam and immediately got a "format failed" error.

So I then re-read the manual and discovered what I had missed: that this dashcam only supports 32GB max. However, I may have found a way around formatting issues with cards other than class6. If you get a "format failed" message, plug the dashcam into your computer and format it from the computer (fat32). The disconnect the dashcam and restart it unattached. You may get a "format not optimum... optimize? Yes/No". Choose "yes" and you'll be good to go. I was able to format a non-Samsung 64GB card this way (although it only formatted to 32GB).

Anyhow, just a heads up on how to maybe get around formatting issues if you try a class10 card/non-Samsung card and it doesn't work initially...

5 out of 5 eggsLove this dashcam!!!!

Pros: Tiny, easy to install, auto on/off, fantastic wide angle HD video, easy play back. Tech support (Larry) replies almost instantly to questions.

Cons: Not really a con, but I agree with the previous review that it would be preferable for the double-sided tape to be black.

Other Thoughts: I bought an after-market step down cord from dealextreme for less than $7 and connected it to my mirror harness in the overhead console. No more hanging cords !! And no need to spend $20 for that cord.

I get about 200 minutes of HD video on the provided 16GB card. I just purchased a class 6, UHS 64GB card from Newegg (item #9SIA4641F36723) and will update this review when I receive it. I talked to Larry and he said the only reason they recommend class 6 cards is because they found some class 10 cards didn't work with the Ojocam, but they don't have the capability to test all the different class 10 cards to know for sure.
