My biggest concern when purchasing was the range and battery life. I'm very satisfied with both. We purchased these for the kids to use for fun. We live on the edge of a medium size town and found that we could clearly communicate through 1/4 mile of houses. It actually was better than I expected. That was without even having to play with the channels. The battery life was also surprisingly great. The kids have been using them off and on for several days and only just now need the batteries changed. The battery cover comes off with the use of a small screwdriver to release a clip. I was happy with that because the kids can't figure it out ;-) But it's quite easy for an adult - better than being sc.rewed on in my opinion. They're actually smaller than I expected them to be too, which it neat because they fit nicely in a pocket. Cons: I do wish there was a feature to disable, or at least lower the volume of the beeping. The volume is adjustable but only for the voice coming over the radio. When the person on the other end ends their transmissions, it beeps to confirm they are finished. This beep is kind of loud and though I read the instructions, was unable to find a feature to disable it or lower it. There's also the code feature where you can transmit morse code type beeps over the comm. It too is annoying and I wish it was disabled. As long as the kids are playing with them outside it's fine, but indoors it get's pretty irritating. Other Thoughts: Definitely worth the buy. Very satisfied with the results. I'm sure we'll use them for more practical reasons in the future, like shopping or at the park or something, but for now we've been having fun around the neighborhood.
