4 out of 5 eggsGood Bluray choice

Pros: First thing I did once I got it online was to update software version. Don't even think about not doing that. Can't say I've used much of it's available features, but for playing Bluray disks it's been perfect. I've an older Toshiba that I now find very slow to react to button pushes etc. that this doesn't exhibit. I'm afraid BD players are getting pretty commodity items. This one is at least a good commodity with plenty of other features that I likely won't use. I did like the fact that I can see my shared files from other PCs on my network though. I'll definitely investigate that more!

Cons: That funky top. I don't plan to put anything on top of this, but still - that's just weird and unnecessary. I'd like it better if it was a simple rectangle like it should be. I'm not knocking an egg off for design though - the only reason I don't give it 5 stars really is... well... I don't KNOW why. It's perfect for my needs anyway! I suppose an ideal BD player would have more outputs though, but welcome to the HDMI era.

Other Thoughts: I didn't buy this through Newegg. Bought it locally from a big-box store that usually COSTs less, and frankly I think it was cheaper than through here, with no shipping costs or time. Also, mine DID include an HDMI cable (after I'd already ordered one from here, but hey - an extra HDMI can be handy to have). Interestingly, it didn't include remote batteries. I've gotten used to that, though I had some on hand anyway.

Pros: Fast shipping and quick Blu-ray. Lot's of app, but most have to be paid for. Wifi work good compared to lasrt blu-ray.

Cons: Package was banged up pretty bad, but product was OK.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good value

Pros: Got it at best market price from the egg and not disappointed in its delivered performance. Will use the digital coaxial audio output to use sound system external to my HDTV panel.

Cons: Disappointed that the MLB application is non functional. I am a longtime subscriber to MLB and could not log in by any method. Other application were functional including Netflix which I use.

Other Thoughts: Be aware that the audio out jack is for Digital Coax Connector and cable and plan accordingly if plan to use.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy an HDMI cable

Pros: Works great with Netflix, integrates with a Sony TV exceptionally well.

Cons: When you open the box, you have a device that has one video output... HDMI... as listed on the details. But that is all you get. You don't get a HDMI cable.

Other Thoughts: Nice and embarrassing when you give someone a gift of a TV and a Blue Ray player expecting the cable with the player only to have to rush to Best Buy to get a cable. The box even says an HDMI should be in the box. The manual says a HDMI should be in the box. $20 to Best Buy for a cable and a very embarrassed apology to the recipient of the gift.

5 out of 5 eggssofarsogood!

Pros: wifi works great.. somehow better than my tv. haven't tried using the dlna feature yet but will in the future. fast load speed for both dvd/bd rom. I was prompted for an update to use all the extensive features and ran it. the update went smoothly and quick. overall the unit does what it says it does...so far.

Cons: haven't noticed any yet.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Plays all dvd's I have played on it. Even played blu ray dvd I thought was broken, because it wouldn't play on Samsung blu ray player.
Added features far superior, considerably more than Samsung blu ray player.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This player replaced a far more expensive Samsung blu ray player, & is by far, way superior.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice DVD/bluRay wifi player

Pros: Easy to set up and fairly easy to operate. The remote is a rectangle so if its dark it can be a bit confusing which is the top and bottom. Overall this unit has some pretty neat features built right in such as pandora, Amzon prime,Netflix and several other music and movie options. The wifi is decent not great, but not too slow either. It will bring you back to the "g" speed era. Have your laptop or tablet near by when setting up specific sites such as pandora or Netflix, the unit will give you an access link code that you will need to input online and bam! It will link you account to the player (pretty cool!

Cons: Remote as stated earlier and make sure you buy a good HDMI cord, the cheaper $7 option does not work at all and I almost returned the whole unit before going to Lowes for a higher end cord.

Other Thoughts: I enjoy the streaming content now!

1 out of 5 eggsRUN from this player

Pros: Menus easy to use. Network setup worked good.

Cons: Everything else. Constantly locks up, will not reliably play video file from proven to work DNLA devices. Even playing a Blu-ray disk locked the player up when I hit stop.

Other Thoughts: Bought this on impulse (my fault) as a component to consolidate my 3D Blu-ray player and WDTV. I have bought and setup several video and audio components over the years and the advertised features looked like they would cover what I wanted. Should have done my research.

Setup was actually pretty easy, set a static IP which connected flawlessly, started to do an update and everything went downhill from there. Update failed 5 times before it finally completed, even after verifying connectivity using the network tools in the "Settings".

Netflix setup okay, menus seem easy to use, now the fun begins.

I have a WD cloud NAS that has been serving up movies flawlessly to a couple Samsung and LG components, as well as my WDTV. At first I could not even get it it to show up in this players menu. And yes, my NAS is a DNLA device that works with everything else I have. After a few restarts and reboots finally got that to show as an option. Try to navigate through a few folders to get to my movies and the scan feature finishes and just shows a folder icon with nothing in it. Back out and try to rescan several times, same thing, just the circle of death in the upper right hand corner. Reboot both the device and the NAS, navigate back in and now see some movie files, but wait!! Half are missing. After some basic observation I narrow it down to any movie files encoded as .mkv. Great (that research thing biting me in the behind again). At this point I still really want to get it working and even consider having to convert all my .mkv files to .avi or .mp4.

Okay, finally get to the playing of movies and I found that even formats it recognizes it is hit or miss if it will actually play the file. Reminder, all these files have proven to play flawlessly on my WDTV, TV streaming app, stereo / Blu-ray player app, Samsung Blu-ray player (most of the same functions as this Sony except 3D) and even an older WDTV device. Problem is not the files contrary to what Sony 1st level support tries to say or sell to get you off the phone or chat. Yes, contacted them twice. Got the normal usual, do firmware update, problem is not our player it is your files responses.

Playing a Blu-ray disk went okay, right up to the time the movie ended and I hit stop. The player did just that, stopped playing, stopped doing everything else also. Just locked up on a blue screen with no menu, and no control to do anything else. Tried to wait it out for 15 minutes just in case something might be running in the background. No dice, cannot get it to navigate, eject disk, nothing. Finally had to unplug and reboot the device to eject my disk.

In summary, I played around with this thing for 6+ hours before finally getting so frustrated I just unplugged it and packed it back up into the box to return it.

I remember not long ago when Sony was an industry leader and produced quality devices. I have owned several Sony TV's, stereos, and players, was always happy with them. My experience
