4 out of 5 eggsI like this bulb

Pros: I like this bulb. I like the competitive CREE bulbs, too, but I bought three of these to put in a new ceiling fixture. The CREE bulbs have a CRI spec of 93+ whereas these aren't spec'ed that I can find. That's a warning sign. Turns out they have a nice warm color when on full brightness. I have always liked Philips' colors better than all other CFLs, and I find them competitive with CREE in LED.

LEDs don't yellow as they dim, so it is still white at reduced brightness, but not unpleasantly so. The bulb blinks a little at the bottom of its dimming range. It is nice to have a bulb that isn't too heavy, but I worry that the heat won't dissipate correctly. Turns out the multiple LEDs are spaced out around the bulb, or so it appears when dimmed. That's a different way of doing it. I hope it works.

I put them up in my son's bedroom. He liked it better than the dimmable CFL I replaced.

Cons: Only 4 stars because I couldn't find the CRI number and I don't like the overly plastic packaging at the retail location. If the bulb lasts for years, then I will be pleased. If I can find cardboard packaging printed with useful information, I'd be at five stars.

Other Thoughts: We are there, folks. These bulbs are preferable to CFL and Incandescent in every way. If they are too bright, buy a lower power version. The price is now right. Philips, please make some 180 degree bulbs for ceiling fixtures and 40 degree kitchen downlights with this kind of pleasant color.

5 out of 5 eggsPhilips Slimstyle LED bulb

Pros: the horseshoe shape allows a design without a heat sink. The bulb is cool to the touch. The light is bright and warm colored. It comparable to other 800 lumen bulbs such as the CREE but cheaper. This bulb works with a dimmer.

Cons: Very minor issue is that the shape can create a shadow line in a small lamp shade. In my medium lamp shade the light is smoothly distributed.

Other Thoughts: I bought my two bulbs at Home depot at $10 each.
