This review is from: JVC HA-S400-W Headphone
Pros: Sound: flat frequency response 200-20kHz. Flat & fast spectral decay rate. Low harmonic and phase distortion. Good efficiency, flat impedance response. Great tight bass due to fast spectral decay and low harmonic and phase distortions. The bass goes LOW. Not as earth-destroying as HiFiMAN or Audeze obviously, but for a 40mm on-ear I'm impressed. Carbon nanotunes at work.
Cons: The bass is ~3dB above subjectively "flat" response. The bass starts out even higher at first, especially in the lowest lows, but as they burn in the bass boost gets very flat up through ~150Hz, and in general it settles down and the spectral decay also catches up with the mids & highs so the bass sounds tighter despite not having as "diggy" low-lows.
Other Thoughts: These took about 40 hours to burn in most of the way. Start out with the loudness soft for the first day or two of burn-in, and then work your way up toward your usual maximum listening level. Do yourself a favor and use a player with ReplayGain to do the burn-in so there isn't any super loudness war'd junk that plays in the middle of the night and pwns your headphones. These do have a lot of power handling, but be careful anyway when doing unattended things with any gear. Heck, you might even like ReplayGain enough to use it just while listening.
