Introducing the secret to better tasting coffee. The Cloer 5218NA 12-Cup Bitterness Eliminating Coffee Maker in Black Stainless Steel. Patented Temperature stabilized Brewing System maintains a constant water temperature of 200F for a flavored cup of coffee with no bitter after taste. The secret to better tasting coffee is a second water chamber that pre-heats the water right away unlike traditional brewing systems that have only one water reservoir with a lower brewing temperature of ~ 140 and 194F / 60 and 90C.

The shower head has 18 holes to distribute water evenly over coffee for maximum flavor extraction.
Capacity: 1.8-Quart/Liter for 12 cups.
The water tank is removable with graduated cup markings for easy filling.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Seller, bad unit

Pros: Gets very hot, has controls that are pretty easy to understand right off the bat. Fits normal v shaped metal filter baskets (cheap machines then to use a flatter version). Has a space for a charcoal water filter (big one), which is handy if you have bad tap water like me.

Cons: I'm used to keeping a pot of coffee hot while I work, so I wanted to keep it turned on longer than 2 hours. I have never encountered a coffee maker that lacked an manual "ON" function in order to keep a pot hot (I buy several a year). This coffee maker breaks the norm.

The instructions said that one can turn it on manually if the water reservoir is removed or the "regulating float is not working properly" But the kicker is, you can't just turn it on; you still have to add enough water to brew coffee--reservoir or no reservoir. Even then, it didn't always work with the unit I received. I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to respond on several occasions (oh, I used this thing a lot for the first couple of days.)

On top of that, this gets so hot that MOST of the water used for brewing the coffee frequently escapes via the steam vent, leaving the pot only 1/3 full, if that much!. This happened almost every time I used it. I even tried filling it with ICE WATER to start, but it still turned most of it into vapor that never passed through the coffee grounds.

This is a very strange machine. I'm glad some people got a working unit, but mine is just dysfunctional and I cannot use it. But see below! :)

Other Thoughts: I bought this from DealYard. When I called them and told them what was going on (there was another problem as well, but I don't have time to get into it) they immediately offered me a refund, no hesitation. Unfortunately, they don't carry any other full-sized coffee makers (they just have a couple Mr. Coffee Latte makers), otherwise I would have used the money to buy something else from them. But I'll keep an eye out for their other items for sale n the future.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow-up Review

Pros: Perfect coffee. Perfect. No bitterness at all, as advertised. I always would us a little sugar or chocolate syrup in my coffee... for over 45 years. I now use nothing. The coffee tastes that good.
Now, the follow up: having called DealYard regarding the minor defect I mentioned in my previous review... the minor defect causing the major problem, they worked hard to help me solve the problem. When all efforts failed (all within a span of 2 hours of returned phone calls), the customer service person decided to send me a new machine, at no charge, not even for shipping.
Needless to say, this is the perfect dealer/store. It quickly became apparent that DealYard means to keep their customers and knows that, to keep them, they must keep them happy. And that's exactly what they did. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future, or to recommend them to anyone. DealYard customer service people and policies can only make my friends trust my recommendations even more.
And I am sending one of these coffee makers to my parents as a gift. I know that they will enjoy such delicious coffee, as much as I do.
Excellent technology working perfectly. Excellent fulfillment team, working perfectly. A perfect combination.

Cons: not one now

Other Thoughts: Any dealer/store who respects their customers, as DealYard showed to me, can only grow in success.

3 out of 5 eggsBrews GREAT coffee

Pros: Great features: pause, programmable, great looks, swing out brew basket, filter system (filter not included; $7-8 ea when shopped around and purchase 3 at a time). The temperature control system for the water seems to make a difference. As advertised, the bitterness is eliminated. And I like a dark strong French Roast, where bitterness can be an issue. The Cloer brew system solves that problem nicely.

Cons: The swing out brew basket is spring loaded, and is kept closed by a button-activated release mechanism. However, when the machine is heating and brewing water, the temperature warps the top and releases the spring-loaded basket, which snaps open and allows all the water to pump boiling, onto and all over the countertop. To continue to use it, I must first wedge a mug between the bottom of the upper cabinet and the top of the coffee maker, to keep the release catch from disengaging.
For something so small as warping plastic, such a great machine design can only get 3 eggs from me. Otherwise, without this really bad flaw, this would clearly be a 5 egg design.

Other Thoughts: a metal plate below the plastic top would solve the fatal flaw in this design.

3 out of 5 eggsGrover

Pros: The Cloer makes the best coffee of any coffee maker we have ever had. Makes the coffee very hot.

Cons: Original purchase only lasted 1 1/2 years. No authorized repair location. Warranted for only one year.

Other Thoughts: We were very disappointed with the lack of service from the manufacture. Our credit card picked up some of the cost for a new unit and the Newegg price was half the price of the original unit.
