3 out of 5 eggsA gem in the rough.

Pros: - Fast operation - better than average.
- solid, well built.
- lots of options to explore; the EXR modes are actually useful.
- feels really good in the hand; nice to use.
-a real, honest-to-goodness RAW mode - that works very well! A real surprise in a camera this cheap. You have to download the latest version of Fuji's Silkypix RAW developer from their global website to get the most from them; the included software couldn't develop them.
- Decent movies; better than average overall (but see my "con" on this).

Cons: - Worst con? the lens! It is VERY soft in the corners throughout the zoom range. Still, sharp enough in the middle; acceptable for snapshots.
- significant visible noise at moderate and high ISO. Not a low-light camera like the Fuji F10-20-30 series was.
- EXR modes come at the expense of resolution - eg. in SN mode you trade resolution for lower noise. But then, who really needs more than 8 MP for snapshots?
- records soft clicking noises from the aperture and focus mechanism when taking movies.
- the pop-up flash gets irritating - every time I turn the camera on I have to push it back down to get it out of the way.

Other Thoughts: *Newegg has two different cameras pictured here - one is the F505 (the one I own); it comes without the GPS that the F550 comes with (the one with the GPS bump in the middle), but is otherwise identical. You might want to find out which one they're selling before you buy.....

I bought this camera for a bit less at a competitor (see my review at the warrior lady site), and I've been happy with it. It's nice to use, very responsive and has a surprisingly complete feature set. The only big problem is it has is VERY soft corners; so it's not an "art shot", "frame for your wall" camera (unless you're willling to crop away about 25% of the image area to get rid of the corners) but it works great as a "document the moment" snapshot camera.
