1 out of 5 eggsorico support is the worst

Pros: good idea that sometimes works

Cons: random drops outs makes me hesitate to trust it to clone. Manual is difficult to understand. poorly written by non-english speaker

Other Thoughts: support is the worst. drivers, firmware and manual are buried on the website. good luck finding anything. No answer to emails... just hope it works or you are out of luck

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad tool

Pros: Easy to clone drives, USB 3 interface.

Cons: Automatic clone will fail if either drive has any issues (bad block, problem with file system, etc). No progress indicator.

Other Thoughts: I do not care to use the automatic drive clone function. I have found that if there are any issues with either drive the clone will fail, and there is no way to know what caused the failure. There is also no indicator to show progress so there is no way to tell how long the process will take.

I have had better success using a USB connection to the PC (and USB3 works well) and using a program like Acronis to do the actual cloning. Acronis will also have issues if the drives have problems but at least it will tell you so you can attempt to correct them. (I always run a chkdsk on source drives first, and Acronis will let you skip bad blocks.)

Overall, a decent unit that will get the job done.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable hardware, terrible support

Pros: has two slots

Cons: Frequently disconnects the drives--in my case, that means Lightroom crashes and I have to restart it and wait for the disk to be checked. As a professional photographer, I can't afford those random, frustrating interruptions and the loss of time.

Support is not helpful. Sent me a URL to an archive file they called a "software driver" that was actually a firmware update with no English instructions. After deciphering the Chinese cartoon they provided, I got an alert that the required file was not even present in the archive they provide. Follow-up email to ORICO got no reply. They will waste your time having you test their hunches about what might be wrong, rather than fixing a problem that, it turns out, has been widely reported.

Other Thoughts: AVOID ORICO

5 out of 5 eggsVery useful tool !!

Pros: As a system builder, this is one of the nicest little gadgets I have in the tool box. In the last week, I've used it to clone two customer laptops. In one case, my customer's 9 year old son actually hit the power and start buttons to effect cloning. So a new 500 GB hybrid was able to replace an old 80 GB drive in 15 minutes and gave an old tired Toshiba Satellite Win7 (upgrade) system new life. I've also used Acronis and EaseUS software to clone drives and will likely to continue to do so depending on circumstances.

After cloning the two Windows 7 laptops with the Orico, I also tested it on my personal Windows 8.1 (update 1), and server, an older Windows Home Server 2011 (WHS-11). Cloning took a little preparation in all cases as partititioning had to be done manually - creating partitions of equal or larger sizes. Having 100% control over partition sizes is a plus, better than S/W. All other two benefits - I don't have to buy expensive "server" cloning software (huge), and no "re-boots" needed.

Is the Orico 6628US3-C a miracle panacea for all cloning needs? No, I'll still needed software to separate the boot and data partitions of WHS 2011 systems and I'd still need software for coning larger to smaller drives. An example a laptop being 'upgraded' from a 320 GB hard drive to a 240 GB solid state drive.

The Orico 6628US3-C can also be configured as a two-drive, external USB-3 docking station (needs only one USB-3 port) with a flick of a switch on the back. And either dock can used for 2-1/2", 3-1/2" or mixed drives.

Cons: Documentation - the words are in English, but all the screen shots (examples?) and in Chinese.

Other Thoughts: I hope this is a new item because I'd hate to think this has been on the market for years and I didn't know . . .

2 out of 5 eggsRandom Drops

Pros: Supports two disks, USB3, and the disk duplicating feature is neat.

Cons: With two disks in this docking station, the disks will sporadically disappear in Windows. I bought this to add a couple additional disks for a MediaCenter setup, and because the disks are dropping (at least once a day), this docking bay is completely worthless to me.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent dual bay dock

Pros: Am using this as a cloning dock. I regularly clone each of my 5 working SATA drives to a same-size SATA backup drive. I have cloned everything from 500 GB to 3 TB drives, and have never had any problem. On all of these drive sizes, cloning speed is about 2.5 hours per TB of data. That means I can easily clone even a nearly-full 3 TB drive overnight. And since it runs free-standing, it will not tie up your computer.

Cons: In several months of use, I have not had a problem of any kind.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend using this as an external USB 3.0 drive dock for a working hard drive... there are better docks for that purpose, including single-bay docks from Orico. But for easily and quickly CLONING hard drives, this dock is perfect, and it is faster than using disk cloning software.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat device that misses the mark

Pros: Clone function works without computer++
2 additional drive bays++
Quiet and easy to use++

Cons: Transfer rates are no where near advertised. I almost think I can get data off of a CD faster!

Other Thoughts: It's better than nothing but don't buy this thinking you will be getting blinding USB 3.0 speeds. I just don't see it.

1 out of 5 eggsHope it works this time...

Pros: Stylish, handy very capable...

Cons: ... When it works. Unit sometimes works, other times repeatedly disconnects, then reconnects. This with two drive, or one. This is using Windows 7,8, 8.1. Also the same with usb3 & usb2.
