4 out of 5 eggsGreat option for drives

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: No tools needed
Drives fit snuggly
Extra padding for smaller drives
Solid construction - I am rough on portable drives. I have destroyed three and killed ports on two other types of enclosures. The two of these still after carrying them around for months.

Cons: not completely aluminum

5 out of 5 eggsORICO ORICO 2588US3

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: Slim black case came just as advertised. Painless installation and USB 3.0.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I was a bit nervous that at the price it might not be the best quality but for the needs I have that was not an overriding concern. I am pleased to say that the enclosure seems sturdy and well constructed.

1 out of 5 eggscheap and broke

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: inexpensive option at the time, tool-less

Cons: How difficult is it to design something decent to use and last a little longer than a few months. China is a country not high on quality but on high on profit focus. This is a classic example. NEWEGG, you need to screen better, or you will loose customers, slowly but surely.

Other Thoughts: got this for my mobile backup solution, so I can save everything on a 1TB 2.5 HDD, had high hopes for this case, but barely used it a dozen times in a year, and the connection is loose, randomly connects or disconnects as other users have reported. Would not recommend

4 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure- fixed nitpicks would make it Very Good

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: No fuss instructions on drive installation. Instructions are in "engrish" (even just a little time spent on them would improve experience). They are understandable, but it's a bit unprofessional. Case is well constructed and USB 3.0 functionality is all OK. Case has a nice textured feel. Price was appropriate.

Cons: Indicator light (only one) is at "back" of case next to USB 3.0 port. It would be more useful out front. Final "click" of enclosure closing seems a bit dramatic/intense. One should probably not open&close this device often.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Worth It

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: Hard drive fits in the case

Cons: Everything else.

The internal plug arrived bent, hard drive "disconnects" at random intervals, it has never worked fully. **pressing sideways on the cable will allow it to "burst" some data through before it randomly stops working again.

Overall unreliable

Other Thoughts: Spend a bit extra on a better enclosure.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with Win 8.1

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: Easy to install HD. Powered by USB

Cons: Works erratically with Win 8.1 and sometimes crashes PC

Other Thoughts: Similar experience to that in review by Timothy K, although after reading his, I am not going to bother with their tech support and will just buy another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsAt your own risk

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: It works, sometimes.

Cons: Installed drive recognized most of the time by my XP and Win 7 systems, but not at all by my Win 8.1 laptop (Intel). Orico toutes its tech support, so I emailed them. They sent me a 2nd unit that had same issue. They sent me a program that was supposed to update the firmware, but it would not recognize the enclosure. It did nothing. After weeks of emails, they told me to contact their engineer by Skype. (All of their tech support is in China.) I set up a Skype account, but the engineer never answers my calls, does not respond to my text messages with a time when he can be contacted, and often blocks me from his Skype. As a result, I have never talked to him. Person in tech support who put me "in touch" with this engineer no longer responds to my emails. I guess that I have been dropped down the black hole of Orico tech support. What do they car about the sale of one enclosure. Many hours wasted.

Other Thoughts: If you want to be assured of a working product, look elsewhere. By the way, I tried 7 other enclosures by drive manufacturers and third-parties for comparison and they all work flawlessly with my Win 8.1 laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: ORICO 2588US3 Tool-Free USB 3.0 2.5-inch SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure Adapter Case

Pros: It works like it should. LED indicates writing and reading which is nice.

Cons: The package is just a little long for my drive. Every once in a while I have to open the case and push the drive back into the slot. I am using a folded piece of paper to fill the extra space.

Other Thoughts: Good for <$10.
