Rating: 4/5Good product for the price. A bit challenging to set up but customer service is great.
This review is from: D-Link DCS-2330L HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera
Pros: I bought to to integrate with Smart Things home automation. For what it is, the price level and the only choice for outdoor wifi camera, this product is decent. Though setup is a bit challenging, the customer service rep (badge #AR004214) is outstanding.
Cons: A bit difficult to setup and the user interface can use a lot improvement. Also not a fan of the Java platform.
This review is from: D-Link DCS-2330L HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera
Pros: Decent picture, sound works with iphone app.
Cons: Set-up was awful. D-link app took many tries each time to find the camera. Almost as if there was no communication between the firmware team and the software team. When it finally found the camera (just keep hitting scan until it does!) then the program made awful choices including resetting my internet connection. Why? Setup was 90 minutes, where a cheap foscam took 5 minutes. The "security software" which was optional, also decided to shut off UAC and make a registry hack which did NOT reverse itself by uninstalling. Using the software on the camera itself via http, it a very familiar dlink interface. But nothing like the app and all many terms are called different things. Confusing and irritating. Finally, the promised smartthings integration did not work. I presume that a firmware update broke it and no one went back and tested it. Who knows? But since that was a selling point for me, I got fed up and boxed it back up.
Other Thoughts: I know it seems obvious, but it is an outdoor camera, but you need to power it. So you need an outlet to use it.
This review is from: D-Link DCS-2330L HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera
Pros: Works with D-Link's DNR-202L network video recorder and D-Link's cloud service that lets you monitor the live camera view via the Internet.
Daylight image OK, but not that great.
Water-resistant design (not tested).
External antenna probably gives better range (not tested)
Cons: I have 3 different D-Link cameras that I have been trying out, in order of price paid (highest first):
DCS-2230 (1920 x 1080) DCS-2232L (1920 x 780) DCS-2132L (1920 x 780)
The night vision image of the 2232L is by far the worst of the bunch. It is very noisy (grainy). You have to reduce the motion sensor sensitivity to keep it from recording on a still scene. Even with the sensitivity reduced, the image is so noisy, it is very difficult to identify anyone in the image.
The 2230 is an older camera, and still rather expensive (over $200), but the night vision image is vastly superior, and the daylight image is much better as well. The problem with the 2230 is that it seems to miss a lot of motion detection. I can walk right up to it, and sometimes it won't trigger recording. The other two cameras trigger recordings based on scene movement with no issue.
The 2131L is the cheapest of them all, but the image is better than the 2330L. The issue with the 2131L is the night vision illumination appears to be weaker, and/or the image has a harder time resolving anything at night. So if night vision is at all a priority, and you're recording all the time or using the motion detection in your video recorder to trigger, go with the 2230. Otherwise I would recommend the 2132L. The 2330L has the worst image of all them, even though (or because) it is the newest model. I believe D-Link selected a smaller imager for the 2330L, and the noise in the image starkly reveals this cost-cutting measure.
Other Thoughts: D-Link camera products seem like they're built OK. The setup is laborious however (2+ hours), even if you know what you're doing. I had to call the help desk (and they were actually pretty good) after upgrading the firmware because the image was very unstable after the upgrade process, despite cycling power. Turns out you need to press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds while it's powered after the firmware upgrade. There were no instructions for that on D-Link's firmware upgrade process steps. Sloppy.
The firmware upgrade process via the Internet didn't work. D-Link's own website didn't even have my camera firmware listed in the automatic update section, despite it automatically trying to do the upgrade during the setup process. I had to go find it elsewhere on their site.
The whole D-Link experience smacks of relatively poor product planning and paying attention to design details, especially the clunky process and buggy software. Apple, if they ever decided to get into the security camera business, would put D-Link out of business overnight. But if you stick with it, you'll get it up and running, but it doesn't exactly breed confidence or make you want to go out and recommend it to others.

Pros: Worked good for a while.
Cons: After one month, camera stopped working. It is full of water. Leaks at Round white rubber plug and access hatch for the memory card. NOT FIT FOR OUTDOOR USE.
Other Thoughts: This was obviously not tested very much for outdoor weather conditions. Buy the 2 year warranty or try somehow to seal the areas I mentioned above. You're probably better off not buying it.

Pros: Weather resistant Wireless range Easy install Understandable software, with information about selections on the page. Set and forget for the most part and very helpful tech support if needed. Active forum.
Cons: I also own the DCS-2332L which has tapped/threaded screws for the SD Card access, this has plastic drilled holes. So be careful not to strip or over tighten. Not necessary a con. All the software options are identical and you almost never open the cover.
Other Thoughts: This gives a great picture and with the IR/LEDs it even can see ok in low light situations. Automatically switches from day/night mode.. you do have several choices in settings. See the owners manual.. to much to list here. This is my 3rd camera, 4th on the way. Coupled with the DCS=202L no running PC or Laptop is needed.. I love it. 3 cameras set 720HD (yes!) on a 1TB USB HDD I get about 20 days of 24/7 recordings. Playback works awesome.. It can be time consuming to watch for a specific time/view, but all security systems are like that. You can choose the time span you want to review. You can use the Apps to see your cameras when away and receive email alerts. I can even take a snapshot photo right thru the app. Although this is my newest camera, I have the others for over a year. No failures, no need for tech support or forum and constant 24/7 or settable recording times. DCS-2330L/2332L I see no difference, but I did read in a review that motion detection is better with the 2330L, I have not been using motion detection. I am planning on a 4th camera soon, it will the 2330L from here. The price is better and NewEggs quick delivery. This started as a trial with one camera and now has grown into a security system of all D-Link cameras and I'm glad I did. The wired systems require running cables, it's harder to relocate if wanted and I have 2 outdoor cameras, both over 30' away from my router and I have a solid connection. (yes, I made some router channel and other adjustments to separate from my other equipment and around me. Try different channels and select from channels 1-11. I do recommend this as an investment and camera system to own. It give us extra peace of mind and for fun, an easy way to watch the dog in the backyard.

Pros: Nothing pro about this product
Cons: Dlink software doesn't work. Wizard software doesn't work. Images are washed out in afternoon. Video review is slow and clunky!
Other Thoughts: If I can return this product for a refund, I will. I've wasted more time and effort trying to make Motion Control work. Image quality is poor!

Pros: had it over a year at the end of my driveway facing my house, on my lamp post, it's been thru a tuff year here in pa, totally exposed to weather and haven't had any problems, no zoom but very clear day and night.
This review is from: D-Link DCS-2330L HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera
Pros: Good Daylight Picture
Cons: Less than unusable low light (night) picture. Power cord permanently attached and not long enough
Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my Logitech 750e camera (may it rest in peace); the daylight picture is good, but the low light picture is unspeakably bad - and I tried as many setting adjustments as are available; and yes the firmware is the most current available. In addition the transformer power cord is permanently attached and not long enough to reach from the ceiling to the floor of my back porch where it is mounted. I have not tried and have no comment on the cloud software as I use Blue Iris to consolidate my menagerie of camera's.

Pros: With some help from Dlink AR004296 I was able to get my new DCS2330L camera up and running perfectly. I am by no means a techno geek and really appreciate the assistance and user friendliness of the equipment and product
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: Thank you Dlink and newegg
