5 out of 5 eggsHigh value power protection

Pros: Nice design, allowing six (6) large-block power block transformers at the sides of the strip, leaving the center free for six (6) conventional plugs. Coax (1 in, 1 out) 75-ohm standard video connectors, 3 RJ11 (POTS) phone/fax/DSL (1 in, 2 out) connections, and two RJ45 Ethernet (1 in, 1 out) connectors all provide lightning and surge suppression. Very high Joule rating (4150 total) is backed by a 300K insurance declaration by the manufacturer. This is essential -- and inexpensive -- protection for your sensitive electronics, especially if you live or work in severe weather zones. The cord is 10 feet long and is heavy gauge (1800W@120VAC) construction. Handy (detachable) cable management guides are built-in. It is only 1 inch thick overall.

Cons: Fair warning: The connections for the RJ11 and RJ45 cables are hidden under white stickers. It can be disconcerting not to see the connectors at first. A good look at the photos on the box helps.

Other Thoughts: Light weight plastic construction, easily wall mountable, low profile, excellent engineering and design concepts throughout. The power plug sockets have sliding child safety covers built in. It is shipped with all sockets open.

5 out of 5 eggsBelkin Surge Protecter

Pros: Nice to have a surge protector with a long cable. Easier to hide one cable then to hide all the cables going to the surge protector. Great Quality.

Cons: None so far

2 out of 5 eggsNot as good as you would think from the specs, supports 10/100 Mb/s ONLY!.

Pros: Good surge suppression, does what it's supposed to do for the most part. Long power cord makes routing easy and simplifies putting the suppressor where it's needed. Lots of sockets to plug stuff into. Good indicator lights tell you if things are properly grounded or not.

Cons: I bought two of these for the Ethernet connection features. I have a shop/office detached from my home and there's a long run of Ethernet Cat6 underground in a conduit to the building. With that large linear exposure to lightning I needed something that would not only block grid surges but Ethernet surges from lightning near misses also. So I got two of these ...

The problem is the Ethernet connections will not support Gigabit speeds, they only do 10/100. The media server and main server for everything in the house and detached shop/office are in that shop/office and they need Gb/s speed. The rest of the network is Gb/s and these Belkin suppressors drop the whole thing back down to 10/100 Mb/s speeds.

I have a lot of very expensive electronic and computer equipment in that shop. I did a LOT of shopping around before I bought these suppressors to protect that stuff. NO WHERE in any of the literature or item descriptions does anything say "10/100 Mb/S ONLY". I figured these would be a straight pass-through for data with a suppression circuit in line. They're not.

Of course I didn't know that until I got them, mounted and installed them, and hooked 'em up. Then I noticed network issues all over my network. During troubleshooting I discovered the big 24 port switches in the network closet that attach to the punch-down panels were showing yellow lights instead of green ones on the connection to the shop/office. Where the servers are.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't have bought these knowing what I know now. I also know now to be sure that any Ethernet equipped suppressor will support Gb/s speeds. As a work-around I put patch cables in the suppressors to the Ethernet switches in the shop and ONLY connect them when bad weather threatens. Which is no help at all if any other kind of surge hits those Ethernet cables. Other surges are much less likely and nothing is going to protect you from a direct hit by lightning. Still, I've gone to fairly elaborate lengths to do as much as I can in that regard and these suppressors are a huge weak point and a major disappointment.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy. Just buy something else. I warned you.

Pros: flat profile.

Cons: After about 4 months this has just died. two computers connected. running. What sucked is I was running an update when this decided to just die, no life, no lights, nothing. And I was away from home, so everything has just been delayed a lot.. argh!!...

Honestly the fact that this can just die with no surge (everything in the house still running fine) is worrisome and I have about 4 other surge protectors throughout my life that I still use and have never ever died.. like 10+ years old.. just buy something else, it'll save you frustration.

Other Thoughts: Won't be able to return, more than 30 days, and it's just cheap enough to make that a hassle anyways.. just buy something else. for real.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than APC

Pros: In my opinion it's a higher quality product that what is being made by APC lately.
Bought 3 of these, so far so good.

Cons: Chord is a bit too long, but it was actually cheaper than the 10Ft version at the time of purchase due to coupon, so can't really complain.

5 out of 5 eggsA very balanced product!

Pros: For the money for a laptop or daily desktop upgrade, can't beat the price. I have purchased several of these drives over the last 6 months and so far they have all proven to be reliable.

Cons: Yes I must admit the build quality of the actual case is a bit on the cheap side. At least appears to be cheaply made.

Other Thoughts: At the end of the day this is an internal product it's not supposed to be out in the open taking a beating from external forces unlike our LCD's, mice and keyboards do. So not really a worry, some make a really big deal out of this, but I don't believe it should be. It's reliable and fast and also affordable.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective Belkin BE112234-10, Belkin Warranty Impossible Process

Pros: Works, until it doesn't, at which point don't expect to be able to RMA it with Belkin. So much for the MFG warranty.

Cons: Belkin's RMA process is a blackhole. Don't expect it to happen. Poor customer service.

Be prepared to jump through ridiculous number of hoops. First send email with all required information (normal). Then it gets verified. Then it gets sent for RMA. Once RMA is approved, you then have to call them to continue to process. This is the third time I have called, gave up first time after 1 hour and 30 minutes the second time. Note, the automated message keeps stating "estimated wait time is 10 minutes, or 5 minutes, even after 1 hour". My requests to handle the RMA via email even after it's been approved, has been unanswered after 1 week.

5 out of 5 eggsUseful

Pros: This surge protector has a long, thick cord with an angled plug (can fit in tight places), many well spaced outlets, protected/not grounded LEDs, covers for unused outlets, good warranty, cord management, phone/fax protection, LAN/ethernet protection, and cable protection. The response time to an electrical spike and EMI/RFI noise suppression are very good and useful in a noisy RF environment.

Cons: The case and many other components are made of plastic, like most surge protectors. I would rather pay a bit more for an all-metal case. If I could, I would take off half an egg for the liberal use of plastic.

Other Thoughts: This is a useful product, and basically protects everything electrical in a household. I bought two of these.
