3 out of 5 eggs70 Joule Protection is a Marketing Gimmick

Pros: Qualifies as a power strip.

Cons: Does not qualify as Surge Protection.

There are other power strips with Thousands of Joules of protection. Choose one with Thousands of Joules if you're looking to add "real" surge protection to your system. Paltry 70 Joules of protection is a joke. Lose a couple of eggs for Marketing that suggests significant surge protection.

Other Thoughts: The electronic component(s) inside the power strip that provides the voltage-surge protection are called MOVs (metal oxide varistors). They work by shorting out voltage-surges to ground to protect the equipment.

MOVs have limited life. When they short surges to ground, they use up a little bit of their life. You never know when they're all used up and no longer effective.

You never know, unless the power strip has a light that turns on when the MOVs are no longer operating within normal parameters. A quality power strip with real surge-protection will have an indicator-light to alert you that the power strip is no longer protecting & needs to be replaced.

I like my power strip. It advertises 3940 Joules of protection, but Belk**'s tiniest small print specifies the 3940 is split between different circuits. The most protection is between Hot & Neutral, which has 1980 Joules. Phone Line protection has the least at 160 Joules protection, which still beats 70 J.

5 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: I look at this as an splitter not a "real" surge protector. at 70 J you really should't either. If you realize that this is a great piece of equipment.

Cons: See pro's they could be considered cons.

Other Thoughts: I got this with free shipping. I live in the middle of nowhere and needed a splitter. This worked wonders and it was cheaper then the gas I would have had to use.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes The Job

Pros: I like how there is no on-off switch. I have cats, so they like to wander under the desk and step on everything so there's no more stepping on switches. Also sometimes my foot would bump a switch. The no switch is a plus! It does its job and has plenty of outlets for what i need it for. :)

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsGreat feature - no switch

Pros: Cheap, does the job. I like that there is no off switch.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I'm an IT support guy, and I can't imagine how much time could be saved by using a strip without an power switch. People are constantly bumping their switches and calling IT because their computer doesn't work. This strip is perfect for at users' desks.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost standard power strip

Comments: Not much to say about this except that it's your typical surge protector / power strip. However, note that there is NO on/off switch--it's always live when plugged in. Not a big deal for what I need it for, but I've never seen a powerstrip without a switch. Super cheap, so I guess who cares about a switch.
