2 out of 5 eggsHuge Letdown

Pros: This came in very nice Apple-esqu packaging. Even the foam inside was the nicer stratocell foam and not the cheap stuff that will break apart and leave you with a huge mess.

Setup was a breeze with the app and I was able to get it up and running within a few minutes. In contrast, my old Foscam took a lot longer to setup because there was a slight learning curve to set it up and the instructions weren't too good. The Avue was pretty much idiot proof.

Cons: Network Connection: As others have noted, this needs to be connected to a server somewhere to work. The app connects to the server in order to access the camera. You cannot use third party apps to connected directly to the camera. Sometimes, this can cause problems as the app is buggy and can leave your phone stuck in the program if it is unable to connect or if there is an error in the command. I constantly have to restart this by going into the app store and starting it from there. And the error message will continually appear on your phone until you are able to connect again.

Bad Motion Sensor: After almost a year of using, this the motion detection part of the software is not functioning anymore. At first it worked fine and would take a snapshot and a 15 second video if the camera detected motion. Now, it does this every few minutes even though the camera is pointed at a door. Worst of all, when there is motion, for example, when i walk in through the door, it doesn't take a snapshot nor does it record the video. I have tried various things like changing the sensitivity settings and even resetting the camera to factory, but neither fixed the program so as a security camera, this has become useless. I can now only use it for live monitoring.

Other Thoughts: The way this camera is designed is not suited for security purposes. Snapshots and video clips are saved on the micro SD card, sold separately, that you need to plug into the camera for it to save this information. It cannot upload the video or at least a snapshot to the server nor does it have FTP or email capabilities. My old foscam had this and it worked pretty well.

What this means is if you are not constantly monitoring the camera through the phone or web app and somebody robs your home, they could easily take the camera and you would not have the video or photo evidence needed to find the bad guys. This is a fundamental design flaw with this camera.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Experience with IP Cam for Security and Truly Works!

Pros: I have been searching high and low for a good IP cam with all the features I want at the price that I was comfortable with during the time. This cam had everything, except popularity behind the company name. My first experience with a IP cam that took me about 15-20 minutes to setup on my Android Phone and to connect from my PC. It takes a little fidgeting around the settings to learn it, but once you get it, it's all set and you can rely on it to do its magic. I knew I would be taking a risk buying a product that has not been out for too long, but I am glad I did. Support has been very responsive to my questions via email, camera has worked in almost every situation, great picture quality, and great video quality without the costly monthly costs.

Cons: The only cons I would say I have is that since it is a fairly new product it leaves a lot to be desired with the features available from its settings. While they have alerts via phone which works great, they do not have support for FTP or email yet. I've emailed support on this and they said they are planning to make these features available in an upcoming update.

Other Thoughts: If you want a good IP cam with all of the above, easy to setup, and just WORKS, then go with this camera. If you are looking to fiddle with every little setting and make sure it is completely tweaked to your liking, then I would go with a different camera. You can use this as a baby cam or home security if you want. I have it for my condo and the motion sensitivity on it is awesome for both sound and picture.

3 out of 5 eggsNetwork down anyone?

Pros: Audio/Video quality, night vision, latency, remote control functionality.

Cons: This camera must be connected to the Internet and the developer's site must be functioning to access and control the camera.

Other Thoughts: When everything works; great. When it doesn't; horrible. Not ideal as a baby monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsWow. Just.....Wow!

Pros: Picture quality is excellent, camera is easy to set up and get working. Got 2 and am more than pleased with them. Shipping was super fast (2 days), and was well packaged through Newegg.
As good as the cameras are, though, the support is even better. See more on that in "Other thoughts".
Outstanding value for a 720p wireless camera.

Cons: A little delay in setting things up due to the email being down, but once that was fixed, no problem at all. For 1 camera, no registration is necessary, but it seems that for 2 or more, you do have to register an account in the app.

Other Thoughts: I had difficulty registering through the email (required if you are registering more than 1 camera through the app, I guess), and though it was after hours at the beginning of a weekend, my support request was answered immediately. Not only was an explanation given (their email system was down), but Jerry from Avue kept me informed up until the issue was resolved. Once the email server was up and running, it took about 1 minute per camera to register.
I haven't really checked into it too much yet, but if the cameras can be monitored on another app that I use for other cameras, rather than the proprietary Avue Cam, it would be great. This is mainly so I can have them all on the same screen, rather than switching back and forth. Don't know if this is possible, but hope so.
Great all around experience from purchase, to shipping, to setup, to support.

1 out of 5 eggs720p monitoring camera

Pros: Tilt, pan, wireless, Ethernet, sd-card, speakers, mic, android app, web app, wall mounts.

Cons: Needs internet connection to work with android app.
I got this camera to monitor the baby's room but after fiddling with it for a bit I realized that I do not know where the video feed is actually going from the camera.
As soon as the camera is powered on, it want to connect to some IPs in China and some in US. My assumption is that some of the servers at those IPs are used to facilitate the connection of smartphone apps.
Call me paranoid but why does the camera have to pan and tilt like trying to "scan" the room as part of the start-up process.

Other Thoughts: I would have probably given the camera 5 eggs if the android app would allow for configuring connecting to cameras by IP on the local network that way the camera can be kept isolated from the internet.

5 out of 5 eggsOUTSTANDING IP CAM

Pros: The AVP561B functions completely as advertised. The video is crisp and clear (truly HD) and the PTZ is very responsive even when accessed via the iPad app on an LTE connection. The IR night mode has been good as well providing wonderful images at up to 25 to 30 feet.

Cons: Instructions and details are a bit weak. Their website was cruddy & not much help. But NO Eggs taken off for that.

Other Thoughts: I'm well satisfied and will definitely purchase a couple of additional cams to add to the home network.

5 out of 5 eggsAvue Wireless Camera

Pros: Solid construction, wireless, built in mic and speaker, ease of set up. On sale price is fantastic.

Cons: Wonky UI, Android/Ios support only no Windows.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this as a temporary security camera to find out who was entering my building off hours. I've not caught them yet but the camera has come in handy as a way to remotely keep an eye on trainees. Set up was super simple and the Infra-Red operation works really well. Being able to pan/tilt allows me to view most of the building without requiring multiple cameras. I can use my android phone and/or tablet to operate the camera.
On the con side...
I know this camera may be set up for motion detection but I have not been able to find the instructions/ app to accomplish this. It also seems I cannot use a Windows machine to operate.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product, Easy Setup

Pros: Just bought this one because it recommended to me for easy setup:I plugged in power and ethernet cable to router, download the AVUE camera app,and use it to scan the camera ID on the camera. Then the app asks for camera default password which is later asked to changed for my security/privacy; and the app asks wifi access point and password. That was about it: Easy.Panning and tilting is easy with a swiping up, down, left, and right; zoom with pinching.I use it to keep an eye out on my two kids and grandma when the wifey and I went on a long trip over the weekend. It's great to listen in and speak to them using built-in two way audio function. When not actively viewing the kids, the camera will send push notifications of any motion detected. The video is smooth at maximum 720p resolution, and audio is crisp and clear.I was going to get the dropcam, but recording requires a paid subscription on a monthly basis.Something we don't have a budget for. The cameras has a SD card slot we can use spare sd card to store locally. The price is about 20 to 30 cheaper than dropcam and it has more functions. i love panning and tilting by swiping.Every home should have one in their living room. Highly recommended.

Cons: No SD Card is included
