1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support Ivy Bridge Xeons, poor customer support

Pros: Works on Core i3/i5/i7, Celeron, Pentium processors.

Cons: We bought two of these boards to use with our Ivy Bridge-based Xeon processors because the product page claims support for them. However, we found that our processors do not boot with these boards, even with the latest BIOS updates. Asus tech support acknowledged that our Xeon processor isn't supported on this particular board, but several similar Z77 models do support our processors. However, Asus refuses to replace the board with a similarly priced model that supposedly supports our processors.

We spoke with numerous tech support staff and managers, and many initially agreed to a model exchange, only to renege later. In one instance, we got an RMA number and sent the boards back to Asus, with a detailed note stating that we want a different model returned to us -- not the regular RMA procedure, but only for the exact same boards to be sent back. In another instance, a manager promised us to send the model we're looking for if they had extra stock, only to return saying his manager would not approve and it is their policy to not do model exchanges.

We escalated this situation all the way up to the corporate customer care department, apparently the only people who can make model exchanges. The response we got is that "Xeon is not a desktop CPU, and some features may not work". This is exactly the same response we received from a low level tech support staffer weeks earlier.

It is very disturbing to us that "some features may not work" means that the CPU will not boot -- i.e. nothing works at all. The reasonable interpretation of that phrase is that features such as the integrated graphics, new power savings or turbo modes, or new instruction set extensions, do not work because the Xeon processor don't have them enabled. Obviously, we weren't expecting them to work, but the board should still boot with the processor if the manufacturer claims support for it. It's very disappointing that at the highest levels of Asus, they choose to hide behind vague wording when their advertising claims cannot be backed up in practice. Furthermore, legitimate customer requests, such as an exchange for similarly priced models due to compatibility reasons, are denied with no reasonable explanation.

In summary, we have spent many hours speaking with and writing emails to Asus support, still have two boards collecting dust, and Asus will not help us resolve this situation.

Other Thoughts: We will be picking a different manufacturer for future purchases that has anything even slightly outside the most commonly used system configurations.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't work

Pros: None, couldn't get either to work. See other thoughts

Cons: Wouldn't work, no post, no BIOS errors. Got power, but that's it.

Other Thoughts: Once hooked up I could not get the board to post. Got no outbound signal to the monitor, and no BIOS beeps to let me know what was wrong. Sent board back and received a replacement that did exact same thing. After researching it seems I either had two DoAs, or my RAM was incompatible. I picked up some Corsair RAM from BB to test out, but still got same result. While I have been told ASUS can be picky with hardware compatibility, the board shoudl've worked. Ended up getting Gigabyte's version of the board which booted right up and ran flawlessly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you received a board that was DOA. Please make sure to update to the latest bios as it seems could be an CPU compatibility issue.

Thank you for choosing ASUS as one of your motherboard brand of choice.

1 out of 5 eggsDoA

Pros: I wish I could list some pros, but the board was dead on arrival.

Cons: Board was DoA. When power switch was pressed the fans would run for about 2 seconds and shutoff.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear you received a unit that didn't work right our of the box. Did you try clearing CMOS.

If so, then the best thing to do is to return the unit for an exchange.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

1 out of 5 eggsWant a dead CPU??

Pros: It arrived, worked at first....

Cons: Installed in new build seemed to work fine with i5-3450 got OS installed left to do some other stuff came back later and it was dead. had to take to a shop they determined the cpu was dead, didn't work in another mobo, got replacement from Intel put back into this board and nothing. So this motherboard fried my first CPU and gave me nothing but headache. This is the first time I have ever had this much trouble building a new system - thanks ASUS, to make matters worse it was supposed to be an Xmas present at the time.... Won't be buying ASUS mobos anymore.

Other Thoughts: Can't give zero eggs, wish I had picked a gigabyte or intel board....

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that your CPU was dead. Did you check the cpu pins before putting your CPU in to make sure there were no bent pins.

I have never heard of this issue of our board frying a CPU unless there was overclocking involved.

If you are still under the return policy with Newegg, I suggest you return the unit for an exchange. If you are past the return policy, then you can send the unit in to our repair facility to have your unit serviced.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Board

Pros: Rather inexpensive

Cons: This board has now failed a second time. Both times getting a USB over current status error. I could understand getting this error if I unplugged my USB devices or used a USB port to charge a smartphone/cell phone...I don't do either. Sending this back to ASUS. I will never buy another ASUS board again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are getting the usb over current issue. If this is the second time this is happening with a different board, then the issue may be something else rather than the board.

Here is a link below that you can use to troubleshoot the problem to pinpoint the cause of this error.

1 out of 5 eggsThe Saga Continues...

Pros: Looks nice, great layout. A lot of features and fits well in my case

Cons: DOA....twice

Other Thoughts: So after purchasing this board, it came DOA out of the box. All the lights come up, fans spin, cd drive opens, closes, but no beep, no POST, no BIOS. RMA'd and received the 2nd one, same exact issues.

I had a certified computer technician check my processor, RAM, video card and power supply and all check out fine. I ensured I hooked up every part in this motherboard with kid gloves. Even went as far to ensure that not a single solder was touched when installing. RAM seated correctly..twice. Even went as far as to remove and replace the CPU 2 times to ensure that is installed correctly. tried the "Memok!?" function on both boards before RMA. Still DOA

It lights up my case and the pretty lights on the board just fine. But unfortunately doesn't do what it is designed to, which is POST, run BIOS and eventually, allow an OS to be installed.

About to RMA for my 3rd and final board of this type. Sucks because I have had no issues with ASUS at all over the years. My last ASUS board (A8N-SLI Premium) has worked for years. My Wifes ASUS board (M3A76-CM) has also worked fine for years.

Does anyone over at ASUS QA these boards before they are shipped?

Hopefully the 3rd time will be the charm. If not, unfortunately I will not be buying another ASUS board or recommending them to anyone.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you received another DOA board. All our boards are tested before being shipped out. Have you tried using a different PSU. Please try clearing CMOS to see if that will resolve your issue.

I have my fingers crossed for you. If you sent the unit in for service to ASUS please provide me the RMA number and serial number so I can check the status.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly worked in Single Channel

Pros: Decent price?

Cons: I used to love ASUS but I am running into problems with multiple newer boards. This board only works with 2 memory slots and only in single channel mode (the board I got). Trying replace for another board but I hope newegg doesn't find a trumped up reason not to grant the replacement. Would really like to get a motherboard that works. I've never had this problem with AMD chips/boards where stuff doesn't work out of the box.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your RAM only working on single channel. Please make sure the CPU is seated properly and their are no bent pins.

If you have already sent the unit in to Newegg, then they will replace the board unless they find bent pins.

1 out of 5 eggs2nd DOA - Bad Batch Of Motherboards

Pros: Its got a lot of features, if they work.

Cons: A few weeks ago I ordered one to replace my girlfriend's motherboard that had a BIOS failure, the one I ordered came in with bent pins and was DOA. I sent it back then got the replacement for it in yesterday, tested it out today and it would not boot. It would show up ASUS on the screen then froze without full post, could not enter BIOS or anything.

Tired of this model and this time sent back for a refund, and sadly this experience IS making me re-think ASUS as my top brand. I understand that this does happen to everyone sometime though.

Other Thoughts: Probably should stay away from this model for now

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you received a DOA board.

1 out of 5 eggsP8Z77-V LK

Pros: Boots up and runs fine.

Cons: Board is smallish, the RAM is close enough to the CPU socket that your choice of CPU cooler can limit your choice of RAM.

Other Thoughts: The BIOS ME region is corrupt and won't allow the CPU to turbo or overclock, basically locking the board to the CPU stock clock. ASUS EZ Flash doesn't flash the ME region and is therefore useless. Any other flash method may brick the board and void the warranty, so I am going to go ahead and return to sender. Very disappointed in what I learned was a very common ASUS Z77 and X79 issue. My next board, unlike my last board, won't be ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you are unable to turn on the turbo and over clock features. Looks like this is an entry motherboard.

If you are looking for a board with these type of features. You may want to look at the P8Z77-V or P8Z77-V PRO.

1 out of 5 eggsThought I was in heaven for 6 days

Pros: Good bios features, easy to use, ran perfect for 6 days.

~Asus, right?

Cons: Went to boot up one morning: Does not post.

fans spin and LED's turn on for one second, shuts down. Repeats this process until manually turned off. Will not go to BIOS.

Removed everything except for the CPU + HSF, continued with the same process. Thought my PSU died. Hooked up the ASRock motherboard I had replaced this one with (ran perfectly for over 2 years) and it booted up just fine.

Other Thoughts: My past two motherboards have been ASUS, both have been replaced within the first month of ownership. I'm done.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you were having issues with your motherboard not posting. Have you tried clearing the CMOS for a try. Did you try reseating the CPU. Please look at the CPU socket to make sure there are no bent pins.

If you are still under the return policy with newegg, I suggest you exchange for another.

If you are not under the return policy with newegg then you will have to send the unit in for service. You can go to service.asus.com
