3 out of 5 eggsClock not keeping time

Pros: Nice overclocking
Excellent BIOS
Acceptable number of fan headers
Nice appearance

Cons: I had to send two of these boards back to NewEgg because they would not keep time. I went through many troubleshooting steps with ASUS, which included replacing the battery as well as flashing the BIOS. This third board has behaved well thus far. This was an incredible pain. Every time I had to tear out the MoBo I had to contend with a custom water cooling system as well.

Other Thoughts: I built a system 6 years ago using a Gigabyte board ... it never gave one problem. I'm currently in the process of building five workstations for a client for which I have offered a 3 year warranty. Suffice it to say I will not be using ASUS for these machines.

4 out of 5 eggsLove the board, but first one had problem

Pros: Good board, lots of features, very well done

Cons: First board wouldn't work properly. Onboard LED would count up partially (to 53, memory controller error), then halt. RMA'd the board, new one came up just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsBest motherboard a boy could ask for. =,)

Pros: Where do I start?
- Sexiest mobo on the planet.
- Superb sound quality w/ supreme FX (Sonic radar is pretty epic too)
- Stays super cool (temperature and style).
- Has the most overclock friendly BIOS I have encountered. Hell, it even has a built in auto optimization that overclocks your rig for you!
- The software that comes on the mobo CD is great and useful!

Cons: Ignore all bad reviews on this beast. ASUS makes quality hardware and I'm betting most of the DOA and failing motherboard complaints are caused by the user more often than the mobo itself.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard is for true gamers as well as computer enthusiasts like myself.

ASUS Maximus VI Hero LGA 1150
Intel i5 Quad Core 4670k @ 3.8 (not overclocked)
EVGA Geforce GTX 780 FTW edition
16 GB of Ripjaws RAM

5 out of 5 eggsVery capable if used correctly

Pros: Works great out of the box. The UEFI BIOS is very easy to use and gives ample ability to overclock. The XMP profiles are also very helpful. AI Suite is very helpful and auto tuning features are useful.

Cons: CPU Level Up feature is near useless. If you are going to overclock, do it yourself. AI Suite runs into access violations from time to time and needs to be exited and reran.

Other Thoughts: Take advantage of the UEFI BIOS and do not rely on AI Suite III to keep you up-to-date, download most BIOS updates manually from ASUS. Unfortunately, my 4770k is one of the lower 30% that do not overclock well above 4.2GHz so I could not take full advantage of this mobo's features. The Xtreme Tweaker helped me get a very stable build.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy something else

Pros: It is pretty if you like that sorta thing.

Cons: I have run ASUS boards for a number of years and have been quite happy with them BUT of the 2 Hero VI boards (original and replacement) I've gotten, neither can keep time. You can reset it all you want both within Windows or the bios, no joy. This causes a number of problems with various application and their sync.

If you consult the ASUS ROG web site you'll see this is a known problem and no sure solution is known.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO

Pros: The board Over clock well - and runs good,

Cons: First board locked up 5 or 6 times a day, MARK Helped me with a replacement board THANK YOU MARK. After a few day the board started losing time. There tons of information on the ROG forums about this issue.

How I fixed mine
Turn of the system, clear CMOS using the jumper leave it off about 10sec. when you add it back the unit should boot up go into the UEFI, set defaults. set time in BIOS and boot into windows set time. It's been working fine for about 10 days now.

Other Thoughts: At first I had a ton problems with board unit MARK helped me get it replaced.

If it wasn't for Marks help, I would bought other board and sold this one. ASUS you where saved by Marks customer support in my mind. You give him a raise!!!

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't have picked a better Mobo!

Pros: - Great software and security features to help you set up your computer and customize performance.
- Looks awesome and glows when the machine is on, so please get a case where you can admire it!
- ATX so you can use pretty much any tower out there!

Cons: - Other cool features are sold separately but who can blame them?

Other Thoughts: Bought this as a replacement for my last gaming rig, which served me well for 6 years. It's beautiful and functional. I love the BIOS features and the extra software to customize the performance of your CPU, Fans, lighting, the works. It's so much more complicated than my last build but I can appreciate the kind of technology and thought ASUS put into this motherboard.

I thought the newer version of this Mobo was a bit much even for me, but I suggest looking at the Maximus Hero VII just in case. The extra cash between the two didn't seem to be worth it to me, but maybe a reader or two out there may find the extra investment worth their time.

Everything was really easy to install and considering it's been a long time since I bought a gaming computer, it felt like I'd built a hundred computers before.

So far I'm really impressed with the quality and the customizability of this mobo.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat ROG BIOS, looks cool

Pros: The ROG bios is easy, it looks cool, runs cool, lots of expansion space, USB 3.0 is great

Cons: Fan error on Post, you have to set fan control to 300rpm from 600rmp to actually boot into windows. It's hair pulling until you figure this out

Other Thoughts: Auto Overclock does not work for 4.4ghz and 4.6ghz your computer will crash because of your voltage.
