5 out of 5 eggsReliable motherboard

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: I always wait to do reviews of computer components because I like to test them out a little bit. Unfortunately I forgot to come back and review this until now. Anyways, this board is great. As far as performance, it runs FM2/+ so you can use some good processors with this, although FM2 has been around for a while. There's not much else I can say other than the board has lasted me a long time and has had no issues and it has some really good features for overclocking and troubleshooting(it is UEFI). Has on board LED bar for error/status codes. And man does this thing look good in my system. Has all the video connections you need(HDMI, Display, DVI and VGA) and also has digital and 5.1 channel audio so you can get some good decent sound out of this. Has 2 PCI-E 3.0 X16 slots so if you want to run 2 graphics cards, this will do it.

Cons: FM2/+ could be a con as there are some nicer processors available in other socket formats but not a con for me. DDR3, which once again is not a con for me but may be for those looking for the latest greatest RAM.

Other Thoughts: I recommend this for someone wanting to go the amd route. I have had this board in my built PC for 2 years. This board has not let me down. It looks nice and functions as it should. I run 16 GB of ram in this(4x4) and have a video card in XFire with my APU and this has not been a problem. I have also loved the easy access to overclocking my processor, which is unlocked from AMD so it is designed to be overclocked. Overall, I would buy this again if I was looking to build. It is awesome. Just make sure you pair it up with good parts so it can be used to it's potential.

4 out of 5 eggsGood stable board, easy to setup.

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: I've had this board for about a year now; it's very stable, and was easy to setup. The '1-click' setup makes it easy for non-tech users, but I setup the BIOS manually in 'Advanced Mode'. It feels well made and comes packed well with SATA cables and good instructions. It can take up to 64gigs ram and has 6 SATA 6gb/s ports. I was able to setup a mild OC to 4.4ghz without any hassle. The AMD platforms give you a lot for your hard earned money. The money saved over Intel can go a long way towards a high performance video card if you game on a tight budget (better video card trumps slight CPU gain with Intel, in my book, if you are stretching your dollars). For what a mid range Intel CPU costs, I got this board, the AMD chip, and 8 gigs of the 32 gigs I bought.

Cons: I don't know if this is an AMD spec for the chip I used, but the default 1.48v on the CPU was a bit much. In Advanced mode, I set the CPU Vcore to 1.34v with a mild OC at 4.4ghz by lowering the offset voltage setting, which lowered the CPU temperature. A non-tech user may not notice, and while it does not damage the chip as far as I know, why run it so high? This is why I removed 1 egg.

Other Thoughts: I pared this motherboard with a Godavari 7870k and 32 gigs ram, to make a test machine/lab study 'server' so it has been reconfigured with various operating systems and hardware over the last year. No issues with it. While you can do the 4-way '1-click' optimizing to make setup painless, I went in and manually configured most of the settings using the advanced BIOS mode. The default 1.48 CPU voltage (VCORE) is way too high; I was able to set it to 1.34v with a mild overclock to 4.4ghz, which helps keep the CPU cooler. It did pick up my memory settings, and worked fine with the then new Godavari CPU after a painless BIOS update (Godavari was new when I got this board). The reason people pick the AMD platform is to save money over Intel, and while this board is not the cheapest thing out there, it is a solid stable board that can be the heart of a budget gaming rig, or a good basic home computer using the APU's built in video to help keep the overall cost of the build down, as I did.

5 out of 5 eggsShipping was on point.

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Shipped within promise time frame, came inside its manufacturer package with all advertise items included, well sealed and protected.

Cons: Choosing RAM for this motherboard is not as easy as it seems, ASUS suggest specific RAM according to their QVL, went to the Vendor website and the ASUS suggested RAM is not supported by RAM manufacturer motherboard compatibility list. Still got the memory suggested by ASUS despite the RAM manufacturer's opinion. According to ASUS every memory brand and model on their QVL has been tested for motherboard compatibility, I just hope it will work once I put the system together.

Other Thoughts: Will update review once the system is up and running.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board, poopy customer service

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Excellent board, looks slick. The onboard heatsink system keeps it under 40C! Submitted rebate properly and received processing and acceptance confirmation via texts around a week ago.

BIOS came fully updated, and it can be updated without a processor. Instructions are in the manual.

Cons: Tried to talk to customer service before purchase due to concerns about processor support without BIOS update. It was clear that the rep didn't read my initial message and simply told me not to try to upgrade a laptop (Wth). Seems that the inquiry system just randomly added a notebook model to my inquiry. It took about 10 messages back and forth to get things straightened out, by which point I had already ordered, installed, and was using the board.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Brand for Gaming

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: The intelligent overclocking feature is great and made overclocking very simple for a moderate overclock. Fan Tweaker works wonders so I don't have to wonder if my CPU is overheating. Lots of connectivity for drives, USB, COM, 6x SATA with RAID 5 options.

Cons: No on-board START button like many of their similarly priced Intel boards.

Other Thoughts: Love the apps that ASUS has incorporated into their boards. Remote connection, media server, AI Tweaker are all very useful when starting to learn about overclocking and multi-use computers.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Really nice board, Qcodes nice feature. like heat pipe helps.
Mobo temps 24 C.
Definitely would recommend.
Buy from Newegg not market place, Newegg had it for $119.99 and $25.00 rebate card from Asus.com

Cons: Not a con just advice hook up Sata cables to board before putting in case (otherwise unless you have small nimble fingers going to plat heck plugging into board.

Other Thoughts: Being using Asus boards and Newegg for several years and highly recommend both.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Easy to assemble

Cons: You can't find the memory for this board! I looked high and low and it is either not sold or sold out. This board has extremely limited memory that you are able to use. I opened the manual and started reading after it wasn't booting properly and discovered that this board has a highly specific list of compatible memory. No matter what I looked up, it was sold out or not sold at all. I will never buy from Asus for AMD processors ever again. I am going back to intel.

Other Thoughts: I would never ever recommend Asus AMD to anyone. You don't save money in the long run. I finally located one that was available.... for $600+ shipping!

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, no major problems.

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Like the UEFI BIOS a lot. Running Windows 10 with Kaveri 7800. Using Samsung 950 pro as boot drive with PCI E adapter card. Have heard comments that you can't use m.2 drive with this board, not true at all. No m.2 slot but there are adapter cards for around $25. Super fast with 950 pro. Getting same speeds as other boards with m.2 slot according to Crystal Mark.

Cons: Only problem I had was booting from m.2 drive when fast boot was enabled in Windows. Once I turned it off, no problems.

Other Thoughts: Nice board with lots of features and very tweakable. Also have Gigabyte A88 board and they run about the same, but Asus boards has more options.

5 out of 5 eggsMoney Well Spent

This review is from: ASUS A88X-PRO FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: If you are a serious PC enthusiast/gamer then this is the motherboard you want. This motherboard has proven reliable under some harsh overclocking conditions as well as thermal brutality. I won't go into the specifics, but this board can take what you can deal out. Using two VCs in crossfire mode with phenomenal performance from both the processor and the cards. Pleny of features on this board to let you control voltages, fan speeds, freq. and multiplier. The featuers just go on and on. Read the specs and overview. That's what you get and, as usual, Asus blows away the competition.

Cons: None
