4 out of 5 eggsz77 Extreme4

Pros: It does everything I need it to, the UEFI Bios are awesome, especially for monitoring temps and overclocking.

Cons: The only con for me is that the Virtu MVP software isn't compatible with windows 8.1, so DON'T install it, I had to do a fresh install of Windows to fix it. Also, it didn't come with a little mounting plate for the other side of the CPU cooler/heatsink. It assumes you have pop-in instead of screw-in.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a really good motherboard, especially for the price. SLI ready and all that. Buy it!

1 out of 5 eggsDead RAM slots

Pros: Everything about the board was pretty nice, fit pretty well in my case. Was very spacious for all the hardware I have inside.

Cons: Upon powering up the pc just looped on and off. Further examination I found out the 2 of four ram slots are bad.

Other Thoughts: The return guy that I talked to at newegg was pretty rude. Every question I asked he answered as if he was extremely annoyed.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Lots of attractive features for not much money

Cons: It's a piece of junk. I ordered this board end of October last year, and it died two days ago. Super dead, can't get into BIOS even.
Do a quick Google search on this board and you'll come across tons of weird problems that end up rendering it useless, the worst part is it's not one thing, it has a variety of issues.

Avoid the headache of replacing this less than a year later, and avoid the board entirely.

Other Thoughts: I guess it's a case of too good to be true. While indeed many have been using this board for awhile without issue, it just seems too unreliable to trust. I mean, mine died right as I pressed CTRL+S while working in Photoshop.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after months, which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU/APU supported or test with VGA card).
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post or showing any Dr.Debug code.
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsz77 ext4

Pros: 1) on the board stenciling is easy to read and mostly all facing the same direction even on tiny items
2) the bios is convenient and easy to use, has built in fan controls that support the plethora of easy to understand overclocking options/settings

Cons: 1) cpu power cable location made overhead 240MM watercooler installation in a haf 90 difficult due to location.
2) i installed a thermaltake extreme3 watercooler and i had to modify the backplate to accommodate the metal cpu plate. not really a big negative but its something to be aware of, luckily the backplate was soft plastic and easy to chop up
3) first pass with driver suite was a bit... tempermental. at first, after each driver was installed it would reboot. I had to fresh install windows 7 to work around this. once I replaced the OS(clearing up what I imagine was a major stink fest of driver conflicts) the drivers installed just fine, so maybe this should be in other thoughts but it did delay things by a couple hours.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this motherboard to replace an Asus z68 that became unstable after a capacitor in the sound board section started separating.

For the most part this was a painless swap. The mobo arrived in one piece. good documentation.

OH YEAH! I had paid for 3 day shipping and it arrived at my doorstep in 21 hours and 15 minutes. California to arizona shipping was fast.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat MoBo

Pros: Great card. Read alot about how people recieved unstable or warped boards. I assembled it and had little to no issues.

Cons: Wasnt able to boot to the software CD. I wasnt able to Set-up RAID. Any comments on this would be great.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat (for a short period of use)

Pros: Many features, 4 back USB 3.0 ports (which is great), two PCIE 3.0 x16 slot, relatively cheap price

Cons: It makes problems when it's getting older

Other Thoughts: I basically use my rig for gaming. This mobo is great for budget gaming PC builds. But after 3 months of usage, two USB 3.0 ports by ASMedia stopped working (4 USB 3.0 ports, 2 ports are controlled by ASMedia and the other 2 are controlled by Intel drivers. It only detects USB 2.0 devices. I've tried reinstalling the USB 3.0 drivers but still not working.

After using it almost a year, there's a crossfire issue. I am using Dual HIS HD 5770. The second card isn't working when I'm playing. I've tried swapping the card slot, reinstalled vga drivers, update my mobo bios to P2.90, none of them works. To check my cards are working or not, I use it in my old rig and it works just fine. I can play BF3 Online w/ High Settings 1080p at 60 FPS. But now in my new rig, It barely hit 25 FPS. It uses one vga card and running at slower-than-a-turtle speed (PCIE x2). I have no idea why it can't run at x16 with a single card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Set the UEFI BIOS default.
Test single card on PCIE2 slot.
Switch another VGA card to test if both cards are working normal in single configuration.
If possible, install fresh Windows and mainboard drivers to check if the symptom still occurs.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

1 out of 5 eggsMotherboard DOA

Pros: None

Cons: Dead board = no computer.

Other Thoughts: Set up whole computer and was ready to start working with it when I realized the BIOS was coming on. In fact, no video at all was coming through. Checked error code on the motherboard.

Error 09
Reset CMOS

Error 7
Error 10

Tried 1 stick of RAM in every single slot. Tried the other stick of RAM in every single slot.

Removed all extra connections to motherboard.

All that was connected: Processor, 1 stick of RAM, Power, DVI on back.

Error 7

Tried multiple connections with HD Audio and USB 2. plugs.

Constant switching between:
Error 3
Error 7
Error 9
Error 10

Tried CMOS Reset many times as well as removing the battery for a little while.

Built another computer an hour before with the exact same components. That computer worked fine.

Extreme Dissatisfaction.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks nice.
Dr. Debug is a useful feature.
Not too expensive.

Cons: Doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: Board was DOA. Bent pins in the CPU socket and two bad RAM slots. Since this item is on a non-refundable, replacement-only "warranty" I am left holding my you-know-what in my hand for a week or more until I can get another one of similarly-dubious quality. Hopefully that one works and I can avoid looking at it again for several years, until it's time to get another computer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. ASRock mainboards are fully tested to assure the quality.
The CPU socket has been covered with protection CAP to avoid damage the pins.
Bent pins could cause malfunction to memory slots due to memory controller in the CPU is not fully contact with the pins.

1 out of 5 eggsBent Board

Pros: Was highly rated and at a fair price.

Cons: When we installed the motherboard in the case, we noticed there was a significant upward bend at one of the corners which originated at the middle and measured about 1/4." This bend resulted in the memory cards not fitting flush and giving an Error 55 code. We replaced the RAM with other yet still got the error. Upon investigation, it seemed a few others encountered the same issue with this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I waited two months to order the rest of my build so I just tested it over the weekend. Since it's been over two months, the motherboard is no longer eligible for RMA through Newegg - I'll have to go through ASRock customer service and hope I can get back my money. In the meantime, I just ordered a second Z77 Extreme4.
