5 out of 5 eggsNice Solid Board!

Pros: This is a good solid board for the price as most ASRock boards are. It was used for almost 1 year in a media center environment 24/7 before being upgraded and moved to another machine (Im a crazy that upgrades frequently!)
The main reason for this purchase was the amount of SATA headers available because I have my storage data mirrored and this motherboard certainly met expectations until more was required. So needless to say this is above average for the amount of storage devices one can use.
As for the other capabilities of the board, the CPU and memory was plug and play, no worries.
The HDMI output was used to output to a TV which was hassle free.

Cons: None. In all my years of building pc's most components do what they say and have more than enough features for the average person.

Other Thoughts: Receiving an item DOA isnt a reason to give 1 star, it happens.

2 out of 5 eggsGood value, sub par quality

Pros: Features such as HDMI and S/PDIF great compared to similarly priced Asus boards which lack them, and some extra USB 3.0 ports don't hurt

Cons: Clear CMOS button on back can lead to trouble, and it has shut off in the past and given CPU errors for no reason. Surprisingly, it wasn't DOA

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and buy another board

4 out of 5 eggsSolid So FAR!

Pros: Setup was a breeze, manual was easy to understand, drivers loaded smoothly after windows was installed.

Cons: My only complaints thus far are hardly complaints. First being the packaging quality of mobo's in general has seem to have dropped, not much protection, and from the looks of my newegg box the mobo came in.. i'm not going to lie I was questioning whether or not it would run, but it did! Second con, is the CPU plug position, typically very snug in a mid ATX case.. but it works.

Other Thoughts: Thus far I would recommend this product, or any ASRock product, they asROCK!

3 out of 5 eggsIt's alright

Pros: It was affordable and it had all the connectors I needed. And a year in, after struggling with drivers, it's running fine again.

Cons: It constantly crashed sitting idle for months. I would fight and fight with drivers to get it to stop crashing and it seems to have stopped for now. I found ASRock's site a little frustrating getting drivers and not knowing which files were actual drivers and which were utilities that I really didn't need. At first I thought it was RAM issues, but after extensive testing I wasn't able to pinpoint the issue to that.

Other Thoughts: In the end, I can't complain too much because it's running. I guess I should have spent a little more money on a better motherboard. Just make sure to get all the driver and BIOS updates ASAP.

1 out of 5 eggsYet another DOA

Pros: - Very sexy mobo
- Great specs
- Compatible with LGA 1155 CPU's
- Compact, but still with all of the features you'd expect a high end mobo to have (LED display, numerous connectors, on-board power and reset button)
- Generally easy to install
- Even the box looks like a freaking car engine

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: I bought this board because my old board died and LGA 1155 sockets are becoming somewhat hard to come by. I don't have money for a new processor, so I was amazed when I saw what a deal this amazingly attractive motherboard was. It's got all the bells and whistles you'd expect.

However, it seems to be one of those products made by a great brand, but plagued with horrible bugs. There are stories of broken RAM slots, bent CPU pins, and many other out-of-the-box issues. I was unfortunate enough to receive one of the DOA's. Since their policy is replacement-only, I'm very nervous for what the future brings. My computer would not even power on with this thing.

I replaced it with a mobo that's incompatible with my RAM, to see if I could get power, and literally everything powered on correctly. This motherboard is killing me >.<

Buy at your own discretion. I'm sure it's an amazing board when it works but mine simply doesn't!

3 out of 5 eggsnot good for raid

Pros: 1. still works bought 11/2012
2. uefi bios is excellent/nice
3. board has been stable in no raid config. running 24/7 only restarting for windows updates for 6 months now as a file server

Cons: 1. running windows 7, other hdd's in raid, pc simply will not stay/go into hibernated/sleep
2. if pc does happen to sleep/hibernate this mobo goes absolutely nuts, will go into power cycle boot loop, where raided drives will constantly spin up spin down- only way to recover this is power supply reset, BAD!!!!!!!
3. board has 2 different chips for sata which i have learned the hard way is very very bad

Other Thoughts: if you plan running on board raid stay away from this board

new build core i5, 8gigs ram, windows 7

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsz77 Extreme4

Pros: It does everything I need it to, the UEFI Bios are awesome, especially for monitoring temps and overclocking.

Cons: The only con for me is that the Virtu MVP software isn't compatible with windows 8.1, so DON'T install it, I had to do a fresh install of Windows to fix it. Also, it didn't come with a little mounting plate for the other side of the CPU cooler/heatsink. It assumes you have pop-in instead of screw-in.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a really good motherboard, especially for the price. SLI ready and all that. Buy it!

1 out of 5 eggsDead RAM slots

Pros: Everything about the board was pretty nice, fit pretty well in my case. Was very spacious for all the hardware I have inside.

Cons: Upon powering up the pc just looped on and off. Further examination I found out the 2 of four ram slots are bad.

Other Thoughts: The return guy that I talked to at newegg was pretty rude. Every question I asked he answered as if he was extremely annoyed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please turn the power off, unplug the power.
Clear the CMOS.
Check the mainboard’s CPU socket contact pins are normal (should be pointing same way and pattern).
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan if socket pins are normal
Test with single memory module on each slot ony by one.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Lots of attractive features for not much money

Cons: It's a piece of junk. I ordered this board end of October last year, and it died two days ago. Super dead, can't get into BIOS even.
Do a quick Google search on this board and you'll come across tons of weird problems that end up rendering it useless, the worst part is it's not one thing, it has a variety of issues.

Avoid the headache of replacing this less than a year later, and avoid the board entirely.

Other Thoughts: I guess it's a case of too good to be true. While indeed many have been using this board for awhile without issue, it just seems too unreliable to trust. I mean, mine died right as I pressed CTRL+S while working in Photoshop.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after months, which’s due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
Clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
Test with single memory module.
Test with onboard VGA (CPU with iGPU/APU supported or test with VGA card).
Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
Turn the power on (using onboard power button) to check if its post or showing any Dr.Debug code.
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We will assist you shortly.

5 out of 5 eggsz77 ext4

Pros: 1) on the board stenciling is easy to read and mostly all facing the same direction even on tiny items
2) the bios is convenient and easy to use, has built in fan controls that support the plethora of easy to understand overclocking options/settings

Cons: 1) cpu power cable location made overhead 240MM watercooler installation in a haf 90 difficult due to location.
2) i installed a thermaltake extreme3 watercooler and i had to modify the backplate to accommodate the metal cpu plate. not really a big negative but its something to be aware of, luckily the backplate was soft plastic and easy to chop up
3) first pass with driver suite was a bit... tempermental. at first, after each driver was installed it would reboot. I had to fresh install windows 7 to work around this. once I replaced the OS(clearing up what I imagine was a major stink fest of driver conflicts) the drivers installed just fine, so maybe this should be in other thoughts but it did delay things by a couple hours.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this motherboard to replace an Asus z68 that became unstable after a capacitor in the sound board section started separating.

For the most part this was a painless swap. The mobo arrived in one piece. good documentation.

OH YEAH! I had paid for 3 day shipping and it arrived at my doorstep in 21 hours and 15 minutes. California to arizona shipping was fast.
