HTPC/Mini-ITX Cooling with 5 Direct Touch Heatpipe, 120mm Big Airflow Fan, 55mm Height, Intel & AMD

IS-50 is here for you to provide the best cooling in the space limited PC. With only 55mm in height, IS-50 can easily fit into your Mini-ITX or HTPC system. Five pure copper heatpipes directly touch the CPU surface to conduct the heat to the dense aluminum heatsink. A 120mm slim fan is equipped to cool down the heatsink and the surrounding components in the system as well. With PWM function, you can enjoy the high cooling performance and the quiet operation at the same time! Packed with universal mounting kits, all mainstream CPUs from both Intel and AMD are supported.

* Low profile design to fit Mini-ITX/HTPC set-up
* 5×6mm heatpipes for fast heat transfer
* Heatpipe direct touch CPU for best thermal conductivity
* Nickled plated heatsink for anti-oxidation
* Quiet 120mm fan with PWM function
* Slim fan design, only 15mm thick

1.What is the CPU compatibility for a specific CPU cooler model?
You may take a look at your CPU box to get to know the socket type, then to check the socket type listed on this page with your CPU.
2.How to apply the thermal grease/paste?
Simply squeeze appropriate amount of thermal grease onto the CPU surface, and use a hard card to apply them evenly over the surface, and then mount the CPU cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooling

Pros: Great CPU cooler for a small computer case, mounted the cooler on an I7 on a mini-ITX board and it fit my application perfectly. With the stock CPU cooler the temperature would average between 60-65 degrees C and with the ID-Cooling it runs between 35- 40 C now while loaded. Very good quality and I love the fact that the 120mm uses screws to mount it and not wire clips like others use.

Cons: It was shipped from over seas so it took a very long time before I got it, in my case it was a month before I received it.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if Newegg kept a few in stock for faster shipping.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad, Fan is a bit Weak

Pros: + Quiet
+ Looks to be well built
+ Fits over standard RAM
+ Low Profile
+ Looks Nice
+ Longer extra screws for installing a different fan
+ Can be spun to any of the 4 positions (LGA 1155)
+ Works well when idling

Cons: - Not quite as good performance under load
- Barely any space above RAM unless you spin the fan-only part above it
- Mounting requires bottom of motherboard access (should be a given, but still a pain)
- Mounting screws have unnecessarily small Phillips heads

Other Thoughts: The default configuration for this thing has the fan pulling air away from the heatsink (up). I was expecting the air to be pushed through the heatsink (down). I have left it in the default pull configuration because i wanted to see if the performance would increase once the TIM has fully cured. Performance has stayed about the same on my i5 2500 (95w, Sandybridge) since installation.

I used Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound instead of the supplied compound as I have tested the Noctua with other copper and aluminum heatsinks, and found that it is better than most other thermal compounds, especially generic compounds that come with HSF units.

Temps for my i5 2500 (Sandybridge, 95w) are around 32 idle, but get up to 60-62 under load. The Processor is built to withstand up to 69, but that's a little too close for my liking, especially considering i have it in an open-air configuration at the moment, but i will be putting it into a case.

My guess is that the fan isn't up to the task. For this price, they had to cut corners somewhere, and the fan is probably what they chose to cheap-out on. I am perfectly OK with that. The low-profile fan IS certainly quiet, but I think that is only because it moves a minimal amount of air. Putting a nicer full-depth Hydro-Dynamic Bearing PWM fan on this unit will likely improve performance considerably. I have mostly Cougar fans in my build, so i will likely order another one for this Heatsink.

For this price, even if you decide to replace the Fan, it's still a solid product. I recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler

Pros: Bought this cooler toward the end of last year, and have had it up and running in mITX build ever since. No issues at all, glad I took a gamble on a "First From Asia" product, because I don't normally. It's quiet and the low profile design is perfect for tiny cases where clearance is a concern.

Cons: Took a while to get here, but that's what you sign up for, I reckon.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you know the height of your memory. I used A-Data XPG V1.0, and the cooler cleared by a hair; it does sit over both slots on mITX boards.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: This is a very well designed, good looking, high quality cooler. I was very surprised. It's made to fit small cases where height is an issue, and is a very good match for a small Mini ITX build. While it is pretty large, It clears the ram with some room to spare and does not block the PCI-E slot. The fan is pretty quiet and runs at around 1700rpm. I am using this with an overclocked Pentium G3258 and an AsRock H81m-ITX motherboard. Load temps dropped by 20C over the stock Intel cooler with the copper core and it is much quieter, especially during heavy usage. The instructions are pretty clear and easy to follow. It also comes with a good amount of heatsink paste that looks and feels like Arctic Silver 5. Shipping from Asia took about 10 days, including the weekend, not bad at all...

Cons: The only thing some may not like is that it does not use Intel style plastic retention clips, you may have to remove the motherboard from the case to install the heatsink. However, this design seems to be much sturdier and will provide better contact with the CPU. Also if you have ram with those very tall heatsinks it may cause a fitting issue.
