4 out of 5 eggsGood performance

Pros: Good design. Thick heat pipes add extra cooling. Nice overclock features. Performs well in single and even better in crossfire. ASUS is a top performance company. 3gb of gddr5 with a 384bit interface what more could you want.

Cons: Heat. They get hot fast. The are designed to run at 90c. I use a custom cooling setting to increase the fan rpm at a lower temperature than what is set at default. It helps to keep them cooler. The fans can be loud. These are overclocked too much from factory. Factory clock is 6400 MHz for memory. This can cause problems in some applications as others have stated. I reduced the clock to the 6000 MHz of reference design. and it works fine. GPU clock is set to 1100mhz with no problems and runs any benchmark with a breeze. Only real problem is in some games I get a lot of screen tearing and artifacts while in crossfire. If I disable crossfire everything works fine, so it is a problem with the game not the card or its software.

Other Thoughts: Over all I am very pleased with these cards. I upgraded to these from two MSI Twin Frozr 7870's. Big difference.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Bought this card in November of last year to crossfire with an older 7970. Been running trouble free, cards never get above 80 at load. Adds great performance from single gpu.

Cons: Still expensive compared to new releases.

Other Thoughts: Apparently the new batches are having problems, hope they sort it out since it's really a great card.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks good for me

Pros: I must be only person to own this for months and have no issues. It works as promised but at stock speeds, hence the 4 stars.

Cons: When I push it, it can glitch in games. Not a power issue, 1250w PSU

Other Thoughts: I like it.... There have to be more people with positive experiences then me.

4 out of 5 eggsIf you ARTIFACT PLEASE READ

Pros: Absolutely amazing card! I reviewed this card before 1 week when I owned but now that I have owned it for a few months I wanted to share some information because I too have had the artifacting

Cons: artifacts at stock clocks. Have to adjust, see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: Like the review before me that Brandon pointed out is that you need to make some adjustments using GPU Tweak. One thing to keep in mind about this card is that the manufacturer ships the card to you already overclocked. According to AMD, the stock GPU clock is supposed to 1000mhz and memory clock 1500mhz(6000mhz) If you are experiencing artifacts, in order for your card to run stable you must either underclock your card or up the power limit and voltage. I have been stable at 1070/6400 using 2.25volts and 110% Power limit.

This card is awesome. For anyone buying a high end card like this it would be an assumption that the end user would have some tech knowledge. However I took an egg off because although the issue is easily fixed, Asus shouldn't make a product that is unstable without some tweaking.

4 out of 5 eggsBeastly!

Pros: +Stays cool.
+Stays quiet under load.
+Not plastic.
+Plays all games @ Ultra with AA

Cons: -Random artifacts on screen. Not sure if driver issue. Usually more noticeable with Beta drivers, but still prevalent in the official drivers.

Other Thoughts: Was difficult to install. Black screen until I updated BIOS of my mobo.

4 out of 5 eggsResolved the Artifacting READ

Pros: Note my other thoughts. The card is fast an works great once it's working right. I fixed the artifact issue... Read the cons. I haven't seen anyone else state this on all of the interwebz.

Cons: All kinds of issues. I'll tell you my fix though...

Update VBIOS, using 14.4 drivers. Overclock the thing. Yes... you're getting artifacts... why? I read that the VRAM chip voltage is rated for 1.5v and can be pushed to 1.6v. I don't recommend. HOWEVER, Instead of underclocking like everyone else is doing... push the voltage to 1.275v and the power target to 110% on the default 1070/6400 settings.

My thought is that the voltage is too low. I haven't seen artifacts in weeks now. ALSO... look into disabling ULPS in your BIOS. Windows/MOBOs are all trying to dynamically adjust your voltages and OC your devices... don't let them.

So, once you determine that your card is stable. Go read an ASUS R9 280X overclocking guide if you're curious and want to push it further.

Other Thoughts: I'd give 3 eggs because of the difficulty of diagnosing issues with this thing. I'm rating 4 to balance out my prior 1 egg review since I can't delete the old one.

Make sure you have wonderful cooling in your case and the 850W power supply they recommend... yeah, that's probably needed.

A bronze certified 850W at the lowest (lets say 80% to simplify) will only output 680W. Do the math on your connected devices at that point. Plus... if you set your power target to 110%, calculate your video card at 330W, not 300W.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice card

Pros: Runs very nice for the price,
The card comes in a black bag for a reason. You need to use ESD Standard when handling this board. This is the biggest reason for board failures in the field.

Cons: would be nicer with more memory, say 6Gb or even 8Gb

Other Thoughts: Make sure your grounded when touching this board, And it should run just fine for some time.

4 out of 5 eggsRuns hot

Pros: It's fast. Too hot though and overheats. If you buy this it will require a lot of research and tweaking. I recommend looking into other cooling methods or what I will mention in other thoughts.

Cons: Too hot. Requires a lot of work to run properly. I'm not rating it lower, because I was able to drop the temps. Read below.

Other Thoughts: To cool, I used Sapphire Trixx software to drop the clock to 1000MHz, mem to 1500MHz, and the voltage to 1.125. This helped a lot. I also had to bend the heatsink behind the left fan due to it being too close to the fan (it buzzed at higher speeds). I bumped my fan speed up to 70-80% and it now runs at about 42-46 C. I'm in the process of adding raspberry pi heat sinks to 10 of the VRAM chips. None of those are covered. 2 have pipes in the way. In order to do that you have to sand down the tin with a dremel or cut the metal somehow. Otherwise the VRAM heatsinks will block the GPU heatsink from touching the GPU. I'm hoping to see temps drop even more after that, but I'm not expecting to run at the 1070/1600/1.2v speeds without overheating and artifacting.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Got two of these even though i've only been using one atm. Details after the brake.

Quiet, all the games run perfectly at Ultra settings and on a 1080p setup, easy to overclock, doesn't take a lot of space.

Cons: I have now gone through 3 RMAs of the Asus R9 280x DC2T in just over 2 months. This is not Newegg' fault even though the first RMA was from them and the other 2 straight from Asus. I am just leaving this here in case you're interested in this card, stay away from it for now.

4 out of 5 eggsI heart DirectCU II Top

Pros: Incredible overclocking ability,Incredible coolant systems

Cons: At 100% fan output system is extremely and expectedly noisy to the point headphones become a must have.

Other Thoughts: The DirectCU II Top is a work horse and a powerhouse. The card thus far has been an helpful supporter in CrossfireX mode with my Gigabyte 7970 ghz. But I will recommend not buying this card at all if the ASUS ROG MATRIX PLATINUM R9 280X is available for slightly better overclocking purposes alone.
