The AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics processor harnesses the visionary GCN Architecture. As the world’s first 28nm GPU, this chip is primed to enable astonishing performance and breathtaking image quality, making it the only solution for gamers who expect the best.

With the HD 7970 925MHZ 3GB GDDR5 with Ghost and Hydrocell graphics card (FX-797A-TNFC), XFX introduces XFACTOR, a collection of features and technologies that include XFX’s exclusive designs and standards with the highest quality and innovation to ensure that even the most demanding gamers get the best from their graphics cards.

Ghost Thermal technology is the optimal thermal design that allows air to pass through the heatsink directly to the PCB and core components. This exclusive design allows fan speeds to be kept lower, while allowing the heat to dissipate evenly through the card without excess noise. XFX’s exclusive Ghost Thermal design is complimented by its highly efficient HydroCell thermal solution which is a vapor chamber based on the same principles as heat-pipe technology, which uses a recirculation process and wick system for vaporization. XFX also introduces Duratec Professional Grade technology which represents XFX high standard for component quality. Graphics cards featuring Duratec standards offer high quality components such as 2oz Copper PCB, Solid Capacitors, Ferrite Iron Core Choke, IP-5X Certified Dust Free Fan, XFX’s exclusive bracket design for greater airflow and other quality performance enhancing components.

3 out of 5 eggshad a damiged box

Pros: none..

Cons: when i got this.. the box was in bad all mest up and so i thought the card would be ok cuz the video card wasnt damaged.. so i pluged it in and it wouldnt work.. and i called newegg and they said sorry and said they was out of thes card to send to me.. so they told me to call radeon and see if they have any they can send me and still havent got a new one been waiting over a week and still nothing..

Manufacturer Response:

Make sure that both the 6 pin and 8 pin power connections are plugged in and that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard. Some motherboards need updates to be compatible with the new PCIE version. Contact our support at xfxforce.com and we can help. Thank you.

3 out of 5 eggstired of manufacturers condescension

Pros: nice numbers on this card, i was thinking of going with xfx..

Cons: im tired of pr reps from manufacturers jumping in with their stupid questions, making us sound like we dont know what we are doing

did you plug the card in..

did you download a bit of software to make our product work?

i have a question, why isnt there a note if there is software to install and if there is, dont ask if someone can read...

i sent an email the other day to xfx about their warranty and i asked if overclocking a reference card would void the warranty

you can never be too careful, even when it says lifetime warranty limited... and taking for granted youre allowed to overclock even a reference card can get you in trouble...

im still waiting for a reply

Other Thoughts: so if you wanna write something, answer the emails being sent to xfxforce dot com

because no one has answered mine yet

i saw someone had clocked a 7970 to 1200mhz, stable...

1500mhz memory ram

3 out of 5 eggsHeating Issue

Pros: The Card is performing well, even at the ridiculous temp its sitting at.

Cons: The card is overheating without any overclocking. The fan spins up just fine, but the AMD drivers weren't making the fan spin up enough and it was red lining so I had to DL extra programs to override fan control. with barely any pressure (Skyrim on low settings) this card is instantly hitting 75 C unless I force it back down with 100% fan speed, in which case it sounds like a leaf blower. For 550$ I am starting to regret my purchase, although it may be a faulty card.

Other Thoughts: I bought a few bucks worth of extra heat management acessories to try and make this card work before I contact xfx about a replacement. My PC already has 2 intake and 2 outtake fans and its in an open and cool area (I keep my house at 72 F at all times >.>) I never had a heating problem before, but maybe another fan or 2 will fix the problem.

3 out of 5 eggsXFX starts its journey downward?

Pros: The card is an impressive piece of hardware. It edges out my older 5970 which was a dual GPU card, and it does so with less heat and better tesselation performance.

Cons: This was my first XFX purchase, and it will likely be my last. I had for so long heard about the lauded double lifetime warranty XFX provides, and was interested in having that security for the first time. So I gladly paid the extra $10 and put up with the lack of provided connectors comforted by the fact that at least I'd have an unsurpassed warranty to keep my equipment safe.

Little did I know that XFX oh so quietly pulled their old warranty policy in favor of a more standard 2 year warranty. So what did I pay extra for? $10 more for the privilege of having the same warranty as all the other cards, and also to have less video adapters included?

Absolutely ridiculous. Sapphire never did anything to lose my business, and evidently XFX isn't doing what I thought they were doing to EARN my business. Back to Sapphire I go next time.

Buy another brand if you want to send XFX the message that we expect more from them. We want to pay more and get more; not pay more and get less.

Other Thoughts: I am also 90% sure that when I actually placed my order, newegg had listed the card as a Lifetime Warranty, and then later updated the listing to 2-year warranty the next day (I bought it on 1/8/12). If that's true then newegg deserves some of that blame too. I'd have simply ordered the Sapphire card if I knew the price was higher for less value.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none right now as it was Dead on Arrival

Cons: everything so far. DOA and newegg keeps removing any bad reviews.

Other Thoughts: This card might be nice if it worked. DOA out of the box.

Manufacturer Response:

Please contact our support team at xfxforce.com. Make sure that you have checked for motherboard BIOS updates. Some motherboards have PCIE 3.0 compatibility updates. Thank you.
