5 out of 5 eggsX'ing out the Competition

Pros: --> Fantastic Overclocking Capability (Hynix memory<3)
--> Cooling solution is topnotch for a stock buy.
--> Lots of raw GPU power, handles almost every task with absolute ease.
--> QUIET as a mouse! Having had an HD4870 as my previous card, I felt like I installed my card improperly because of how low the db's were under full load. My HD4870 use to whirl and practically scream, so the lack of dissonance is definitely a welcome change.
--> Great price; having this as a single card solution leads me to believe that for the cost, you'll nary find better performance. Having these in a CF mode would definitely be beneficial for a 4k setup.

Cons: --> Huge! I have a CM Stryker case (the largest case I've ever owned) which is lauded as having the most room available in a normal consumer-end tower. This card is about a foot long; despite having a huge volume of empty space in my ATX, I still had to finagle this card in my motherboard by putting it in bottom-first and sliding it under the hard drive bay. Definitely make sure your case is extremely well organized and your cables are set up and out of the way! If I had a smaller case, this would have been a HUGE issue.
--> Compatibility issue with some games. For whatever reason, developers dislike optimizing for AMD systems (at least, apparently so). Dying Light is a great example--it runs like trash on AMD cards for no particular reason other than to just run like trash. While this will be fixed with a future patch, I think the lack of developer insight may hurt future AMD customers. Do some research before purchasing to make sure that your favorite games don't have any issues with the Catalyst drivers.
-->No free game or useful software. The software bundle offered with this card is 'meh.' It has a driver cd with an older catalyst version (2013), and doesn't even include the TriXX Overclocking software. I was thoroughly disappointed with the software bundle with this card; luckily the performance of the card more than makes up for the dearth of utilities/useful programs. I would recommend MSI Afterburner for oc'ing anyways.
--> Draws -TONS- of power. There are benchmarks out there showing the wattage draw during full load, and this card ranks up there in the top 5 in terms of how many watts are being pumped out at any given time. The Tri-X overclocked has hit 500w+, so make sure you have a rock solid PSU! I recommend any 750w+ bronze rated or higher EVGA. I've never gone wrong with their PSU's and they are built like bricks!

Other Thoughts: I've never been happier with a video card purchase. I'm running the card as a single card solution, paired with an FX8350, 16GB Trident X DDR3 1600, ASRock Fatal1ty Killer 990FX, and Samsung EVO 850 250GB. Games kneel in awe. I haven't been able to dip below 50FPS with 8xMSAA and maximum settings in -any- game yet. I have experienced slight dips in certain games (Oddly, Crysis 1 has FPS dips despite being an 8 year old game--I've no idea if this is hardware or software related, but I'm leaning more towards user error on my part), but my guess is these are due to improper optimization. Landmark Beta is the most noticeable power struggle for my computer, floating anywhere from 30fps up to 200fps.

All other games: BF4, EQ2, The Secret World, Smite, DOTA 2, Warframe, PlanetSide 2, FFXIV, Crysis 3 all play beautifully at a native 1080p resolution with max settings.

I would recommend this card highly to any future buyer!

2 out of 5 eggsGood GPU, but... Newegg sent me a used card.

Pros: It's a nice looking GPU, and performs well but Newegg consciously sent me a used graphics card.

Cons: It didn't have any of the protective coverings that go over the PCI port, DVI, HDMI, etc
Came with manuals that were already used
Had scratches all over the GPU fans, had some rust on metal, etc...
Just disappointed but Newegg is sending me a advanced replacement and I should have it by Friday.

Other Thoughts: Hope to have a brand new one instead of a used one when I get my replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: This card is fast, and it is pretty quiet under normal operation. If you overclock it and change the fan profile accordingly it can get pretty loud when under heavy load (this is normal). Generally these cards will overclock beyond the factory OC pretty well, and in some cases very well. Mine has Hynix memory and can run 1200/1600. If you have any quirks, or issues visit and seek advise before doing an RMA, when a system is well configured this card is a very solid performer.

Cons: It is big, make sure your case has room for it. It also requires a bit of power, don't skimp on your PSU.

Other Thoughts: Do your homework to make sure your PC is ready for this card, and you will not be dissapointed. Remember Google is your friend.

5 out of 5 eggsMonster card- revives aging systems

Pros: This card is an absolute beast. I was going to buy an R9 270 and then crossfire it in a few months, but that meant I would have to buy a bigger powersupply. buying the R9 290 now was cheaper in the long run.

I have an aging system (built in 2010). AMD Athlon 2 X4 (3.3Ghz), 8GB 1333 ram, 550W power supply and windows 7, 64 bit.

The mantle feature has had a dramatic boost for my frame rates in Battlefield 4 and Titanfall.

In BF4, I get 75-95 FPS on high settings at 1080p and I get 55-75 fps on ultra settings.

In Titanfall, at 1080P, I get 60 FPS on the highest settings. This game must be frame rate limited b/c it never waivers above or below 60fps.

My prior card was a 1GB ram, Radeon 5770 and I could only play BF4 on 720p, lowest graphics settings possible and still only averaged 25-30 fps. I couldn't play titanfall at all.

This card has breathed new life into my system and has saved me from upgrading. I can't say enough about it.

Cons: FYI: Very long card. You need 12" length to accommodate this card, from the tip to the tail. be aware of this. I had to get a new full tower to accommodate it.

Other Thoughts: My rebate was processed without an issue and I have had no coil whine issues at all. The card stays super cool.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Everything. There is not a game I can't run on ultra. Every game runs smoothly and the video looks great. This card can handle Far Cry 4, ACU, Evolve, and others with ease. I have not had any overheating issues either.

Cons: It's huge. I had to rearrange my HDD and SSD to get this card to fit. Other than that nothing yet.

4 out of 5 eggsBought as a replacement

Pros: Some much quieter than the MSI HD7970 it replaced.

Cons: It is large. I have a large case and thought it would large enough to handle this behemoth. I was wrong and had to modify my case.

Other Thoughts: bought this to replace the HD 7970 That was destroyed by lightning. I can't believe how much quieter than the 7970 this card is. I haven't had much time to stress test it yet. But what stress I did put it under the fans ramped up nicely with little extra noise. Got it up to 75°C.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I could have hoped for

Pros: Worked right out of box as expected. The in game improvement was instantly noticeable from my HD7770. No scan lines or lag. Video/game quality is impeccable. Very happy with the card so far!

Cons: The only potential issue with this card is it's size. It's 12 inches long, and I have an ATX-mid sized case. I had to drop the card into the case on an angle and them turn it straight to pop it in the PCI-E slot. If you have a smaller/crowded case, then this card is pushing it. In my Phantom 910 case, it JUST fits. There is well less than 1cm of clearance to the HDD bays. If the card was slightly longer, it wouldn't fit. Keep this in mind when buying!

4 out of 5 eggsOrdered 3

Pros: Great price
Excellent cards for overclocking. I can run 2 at 1100core/1600memory with a voltage increase on sapphire trixx application
temps are fine with stock cooler
pretty silent when fan speeds are below 60% (all the time for me)

Cons: First was DOA and newegg promptly replaced it. 3rd card died and isn't covered by warranty, I have yet to send it back to sapphire for repairs.
coil whine. basically a humming sound that can come and go, it seems to be tied to clock speeds and fan speeds I think because I can sometimes get it to go away when I change the clocks. (this isn't something you hear all the time but it is there and it doesn't affect performance or lifespan, just annoying.)
power hungry. make sure you have enough power for these suckers, I believe they take 250watts alone.

Other Thoughts: A little bit of overclocking and it's just as good as a 290x. I highly recommend these cards as I have used several with few problems (only the usual problems that any gfx card is subject to no matter how much you spend on it.)

5 out of 5 eggsbest bang for your buck

Pros: This card cant take one heck of a beating and want more (graphics that is).
Runs cool and quite
Overclocks well
My overclocked fx 8320 (4.5) and this r9 290 run smooth as butter
with the Evga 750w G2 and Crosshair V Formula-Z

Cons: black screen and freezing issues with the first sapphire R9 290 I received returned for a replacement. 2nd one works great. (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: Newegg costumer support was the most helpful and friendly support I have ever received from a company first time i ever had an issues in the 4 years doing business with Newegg. When I received my replacement R9 290 I had one small start up issue, so I sent an email to sapphire tech support in the US and asked if they had the lasted Vbios update for the R9 290. There email response time was amazing, within 2 two hours I had new bios installed and bench marking underway. No more problems with the card, One last thought, When I installed sapphire trixx oc software and amd ccc omega, I had to disabled amd overdrive and just ran the trixx oc software the card rans way better. Seems to be a conflict between the two same if your use msi afterburner as well, has something to do with amd overdrive and oc software in the start with windows mode with both set to that mode. Overall this is the best R9 290 out there for price and service. The support I received was so great I had to give the five egg rating.
