There are three levels of dimming on the display and the alarm sounds start off soft and build to the loud setting. The sound of the player is good considering the small size of the unit and the speakers. The price is reasonable Cons: The time and alarm adjustment should be straightforward and fast. Unfortunately it is not. I learned how to do it but it took a lot of trial and error. The buttons have a loud click sound to them and if your partner/spouse is already asleep, it may wake them. Those two negatives cost my review two stars. Other Thoughts: My Zenith, with similar functionality lasted 15 years. It remains to be seem if this one will last that long.
