Your computer is already pretty versatile, handling your webcam, sound, email, online videos and DVDs, and doing traditional computer things like graphics and word processing. What else could a person want?

Well, you just might want to watch the news or maybe listen to a little radio. They still exist, you know. This dual tuner card from Hauppauge lets you watch and record two different TV channels, and it doesn't matter if they're digital or analog. Got enough on your mind, but you are tired of setting your MP3 player on "random"? It's also an FM tuner, so you can receive your favorite FM stations. ATSC, NTSC and ClearQAM (that is, unencrypted QAM) gives you maximum flexibility in your TV viewing without fear of obsolescence.

Whether you have to spend a lot of time on your computer or you enjoy spending a lot of time on your computer, this card makes it easier to catch your favorite programs and still get something done. Shop and compare, that's what we're here for. Once you've made up your mind, we'll be waiting right here.

  • newegg Enjoy Analog and Digital TV Simultaneously With the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2255, watch digital (ATSC/Clear QAM) and analog (NTSC) TV on your PC simultaneously, or watch either of them and record another, or record two different channels at the same time – it's all of your choice.
  • newegg Dual Hardware MPEG-2 Encoders The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2255 features dual built-in MPEG-2 hardware encoders to record high-quality analog cable TV without occupying CPU resources.

5 out of 5 eggsBest tuner, would buy again

Pros: I use this tuner in conjunction with Windows Media Center for receiving free over-the-air TV in my city. My O/S is Windows 7 Home. This tuner card has delivered rock-solid performance for the past 5 years. We would definitely buy this tuner again. Zero problems. Recorded thousands of shows of the past 5 years. We use this with a super cheap antenna that came with the Hauppage WinTV-HVR-955Q stick. The stick works fine but we quickly grew to need at least dual tuners (record one, watch one).

Cons: The WinTV software is a old school, and getting the license is a hassle - you must hold onto the original CD or else the software installation will NOT work. Even the updates you download off their website require that you hold onto the original CD-ROM to prove that you purchased their card. Completely unnecessary DRM in my opinion. I don't know what they are trying to protect.

Other Thoughts: I hope that Hauppage is able to stay in business and adapt to the ever-changing wims of tech customers.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat TV Tuner

Pros: Great tuner. I like the fact that I can watch one program while recording another, and that I can work on my PC and watch TV in a small window or just watch TV full screen.

Cons: I did not realize that this unit didn't come with the WinTV software, it's a few bucks extra. It does come with all the drivers, so it can be used with Windows Media Center.

Other Thoughts: Although the WinTV software is extra, I have gotten used to using it with Windows Media Center. If I had just checked a little closer I would have realized that the software was extra on this particular item, my bad. I have been using WinTV on my old XP PC for ~10 years with no problems.

2 out of 5 eggsNewer version not Myth/Linux Compatible

Pros: Don't know, can't get it to work.

Cons: The manufacturer released a new version of this card, the 2255. It replaces the 2250. They are NOT the same card. Most of the reviews listed here apply to the older version of the card. This newer revision does not work with Linux. The firmware for the 2250 allows Linux to recognize the 2255 card, but changes in the card prevent the firmware from getting any signal from the input. As of this writing there is no available Linux driver for the 2255. KernelLabs has written a working driver, but it is only available to paying commercial customers of their services, not the home user. If you want this card for MythTV, keep searching. You need to make sure it is a 2250 and not a 2255. But beware. I've seen many forum posts since I got burned with this purchase stating that people bought the 2250, only to find a 2255 in the box. Sellers are not bothering to update their product descriptions (as evidenced by NewEgg keeping 380+ irrelevant, and now incorrect, reviews attached to this new version). You're probably better off going with a completely different brand/model card to avoid getting one that doesn't (and may never) work.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It works as advertised with no problems. Comes with low profile adapter brackets too which is a nice bonus if I ever switch to that form factor.

Cons: It takes up two expansion slots. For non-low profile cases they could have easily fit all of the connections on a single PCI mounting bracket. If not for that I would have given 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line I would buy this again.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: * Two capture cards in one card
* 10-bit analog resolution

Cons: Not HVR-2250, so need the latest drivers and latest WinTV (CD version 3.9). The latest WinTV does not work well with my setup. I have HVR-2250 and HVR-2255. Actual using them has problems. I can not record from four tuners. I can only use one tuner out of four at a time. Previous WinTV version has no problems using more than one tuner at a time. Previous WinTV versions does not recognize HVR-2255, so I am left with no options. Waiting is all I can do for now.

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to change the label for this item to HVR-2255 instead of stating it in parenthesis. When I first bought this, Newegg did not state it was an HVR-2255.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Tuner

Pros: Dual Tuners. This is a solid tuner that hasn't given me a single negative issue in the 2 years I've owned it. Performs well.

Cons: "Adapter" that allows attachment of S-Video, Component video, and audio accessory is useless. Software to make it function isn't included. I toyed with it for several weeks (on & off) trying to figure it out by using the info provided on the MFR's website. I couldn't get it to do anything regardless to what software I used so I set it aside in storage. This non-functioning attachment is why it lost 1-egg in my review.

Other Thoughts: Good tuner that does the job without causing any problems.

Pros: two cards in one

Cons: doesn't last

Other Thoughts: This is the 3rd Hauppage to fail on me over the years, am considering a different brand, now.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: I have been using Hauppauge products quite a long time. However, this dual TV tuner is the best for me, as I like to record couple TV series at the same. I am using Windows Media from Windows 7 to setup. Easy and quick setup in no time at all. Make sure download the instruction from Hauppauge web site, and go to this product and follow the instruction. Build-in dual tuner is the most convenience way to record TV show without cable or direct TV contract, monthly fee, and flexible to utilize computer to do multiple tasks. I could catchup the shows from any laptop within my network.

Cons: My complain is the file format that Window Media recorded can be review with Window Media Center only. I can also use Hauppauge WinTV version to convert on-fly to MPEG, but I don't like WinTV.
