Watch and record two TV programs at the same time: two analog cable TV channels, two digital TV channels or one analog cable and one clear QAM digital cable TV channel.

When recording analog cable TV, the dual built in hardware MPEG-2 encoders let your PC run at full speed.

Watch and record 'clear QAM' digital TV. Clear QAM digital TV channels are TV channels which are broadcast "in the clear" on your cable TV network.

Now supports Windows 7!

Single slot PCI Express (PCIe) X1 board, half height

Built-in antenna splitter allows you to make one connection to an ATSC antenna but watch and record up to 2 channels.

Supports Dolby Digital AC3 audio.

Composite/S-Video and audio inputs, for cable or satellite set top boxes or VCRs.

Technically speaking:
- WinTV-HVR-2255 is a PCI Express X1 board based on the NXP 7164 bus interface chip. The WinTV-HVR-2255 contains two tuners with a built-in TV splitter. There is one cable TV or TV antenna connector which is split, providing a video source for both tuners. For ATSC and QAM digital TV, all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i can be watched or recorded to disk as a MPEG-2 Program Stream. The NXP 7164 contains two highly integrated MPEG-1/2 hardware encoders for recording analog cable TV to disk. The playback of the recorded ATSC and QAM digital TV and MPEG-2 encoded analog programs are done through a software MPEG-2 player.
- WinTV-HVR-2255 now supports an on-board IR receiver and blaster, which can control up to two external set top boxes. With the on-board remote receiver/blaster, you no longer need the external "beanbag" remote receiver. The on-board receiver also has a "learn" mode, so you can use almost any external set top box. (The IR receiver/blaster is not included)

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It works as advertised with no problems. Comes with low profile adapter brackets too which is a nice bonus if I ever switch to that form factor.

Cons: It takes up two expansion slots. For non-low profile cases they could have easily fit all of the connections on a single PCI mounting bracket. If not for that I would have given 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line I would buy this again.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: * Two capture cards in one card
* 10-bit analog resolution

Cons: Not HVR-2250, so need the latest drivers and latest WinTV (CD version 3.9). The latest WinTV does not work well with my setup. I have HVR-2250 and HVR-2255. Actual using them has problems. I can not record from four tuners. I can only use one tuner out of four at a time. Previous WinTV version has no problems using more than one tuner at a time. Previous WinTV versions does not recognize HVR-2255, so I am left with no options. Waiting is all I can do for now.

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to change the label for this item to HVR-2255 instead of stating it in parenthesis. When I first bought this, Newegg did not state it was an HVR-2255.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Tuner

Pros: Dual Tuners. This is a solid tuner that hasn't given me a single negative issue in the 2 years I've owned it. Performs well.

Cons: "Adapter" that allows attachment of S-Video, Component video, and audio accessory is useless. Software to make it function isn't included. I toyed with it for several weeks (on & off) trying to figure it out by using the info provided on the MFR's website. I couldn't get it to do anything regardless to what software I used so I set it aside in storage. This non-functioning attachment is why it lost 1-egg in my review.

Other Thoughts: Good tuner that does the job without causing any problems.

Pros: two cards in one

Cons: doesn't last

Other Thoughts: This is the 3rd Hauppage to fail on me over the years, am considering a different brand, now.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: I have been using Hauppauge products quite a long time. However, this dual TV tuner is the best for me, as I like to record couple TV series at the same. I am using Windows Media from Windows 7 to setup. Easy and quick setup in no time at all. Make sure download the instruction from Hauppauge web site, and go to this product and follow the instruction. Build-in dual tuner is the most convenience way to record TV show without cable or direct TV contract, monthly fee, and flexible to utilize computer to do multiple tasks. I could catchup the shows from any laptop within my network.

Cons: My complain is the file format that Window Media recorded can be review with Window Media Center only. I can also use Hauppauge WinTV version to convert on-fly to MPEG, but I don't like WinTV.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tuner

Pros: Worked out of the box with no problems. easy to setup and install.

Cons: None really the Hauppauge website could use some help but not anything to lose an egg over

Other Thoughts: I used this card in a Home media server running win7 home premium with NextPVR and Plex media server feeding a samsung Smart TV and 3 Rokus. once i got the bugs worked out it all works great. not sure if it is an issue with the card or NPVR but i cant seem to get any analog channels to show up in my listing

5 out of 5 eggsUsing with tvheadend in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Pros: Works perfectly as an ATSC over-the-air dual tuner. I have it in my ESXi-based home server, passed through to an ubuntu VM, running tvheadend. Connected a Mohu Leaf antenna, also purchased at the Egg, then said goodbye to my monthly cable bill!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: To get Ubuntu to recognize the card, you'll need to copy a firmware file into /lib/firmware (search online for "How to set up HVR-2250 TV card in Ubuntu 12.10" to get a link to the firmware file). Then, issue the following commands to reload the saa7164 module:
sudo rmmod saa7164
sudo modprobe saa7164

5 out of 5 eggsBest tuner ever

Pros: I get all the networks OTA clear as a bell. Integrates perfectly with Media Center.

Cons: The included software is buggy, a resource hog and the interface looks like Windows ME. The junkware is necessary if you want to use the analog inputs (for example to digitize the kids old VCR tapes for the grandkids) or FM. No eggs off because I use only Media Center. Microsoft update installs the latest driver.

Other Thoughts: Put this into the HTPC to record OTA so my wife would let me cut the cord. Never been happier.

3 out of 5 eggsKinda torn about this one...

Pros: PCIe x1 card, fits in one of many unused slots.
Seems to be universally compatible with all my motherboards and OSs.
Driver install was quick, easy and painless.

Cons: What good is a tuner card without the tuning software? If you use XP or Vista, don't waste your time, because you'll have to buy some expensive tuning/viewing software - or trust some script-kiddie's version of same. If you use Win7, you're set, but anything else...Rotsa ruck.

Other Thoughts: If only this con were mentioned in manuals, online reviews, or other reliable sources, I wouldn't have made this mistake.

1 out of 5 eggsThis has issues with Win 7

Pros: It won't work with Window's media center and didn't supply its own system so I can't say there are any pros since it won't work

Cons: It does not have IR and when setting up with Windows 7 media center, the media center requires an IR blaster to set up. The WinTv 7 which can be purchased requires a physical CD to install, so the CD has to be purchased and shipped, not sure it will work. And have to wait the time for the WinTv7 CD to arrive

Other Thoughts: This seems to be an issue of interaction with media center which wants an IR blaster and the card does not have IR. bought one without IR because of cable box issues, but can't set it up. Have purchased WinTv7 CD (can't do through download) so waiting to see if it works when I get the CD. I think the card will be a good buy once I can get software that will let it run.
