1 out of 5 eggspretty bad

Pros: No real pros...

Cons: Card ultimately failed under fedora 22. Was looking for just a JBOD solution as my motherboard only had 6 total sata slots. I wasn't even looking for massive speed but I did want reliability. I also was only going to use software raid under linux via mdadm. So it did setup and run for about 2 days. After that the controller would random drop disks and eventually wouldn't even start under linux.

It's a shame because it did work for a bit as expected but ultimately failed miserably.

Other Thoughts: I'm honestly not sure what controller to buy as most of the sub 100 SATA controllers use the same lame Marvell chipset. Not looking for hardware raid really, just JBOD.. who knew how hard this would be.

3 out of 5 eggsOver priced for no reason

Pros: If you are looking increase sata drive capacity in your machine with more speed then this will do the trick.

Cons: Overpriced. is not compatible with windows 8/10 or server 2012 although the company website claim it is.

Other Thoughts: This product will crash your system every time when accessing using latest Windows OS. I only had this for almost three years and now I can no longer use it since using the latest versions of Windows and Windows server 2012. I am not sure if a driver update could help however, the company has yet to address this issue at all.

3 out of 5 eggsCTRL+M

Pros: Relatively low price for RAID card

Cons: Set-up instructions not super helpful

Other Thoughts: My previous review may have been a bit harsh; I finally got it set-up. The only real info contained in the instructions is that you hit CTRL+M to get into the RAID BIOS; that is where I had to configure it. The utility the instructions told me to use was not on the CD; The one that was didn't work. Downloaded the utility in the instructions, still didn't work.
I think 3 stars is fair given that the instructions might as well have said 'hit CTRL+M and figure it out yourself'

1 out of 5 eggsNot 'plug and play'

Pros: Cheap. But that doesn't matter if it doesn't work.

Cons: The utility the instructions direct you to does appear to be on the CD included. Downloaded it and still no RAID. I am somewhat tech literate but am getting frustrated enough I am considering just making a software RAID and regret purchasing this product.

5 out of 5 eggsR A I D CARD file storage

Pros: Optional low-profile. Utilizing 6.0 Gb . Easy integration into my Intel Z 97
reliability of backup quality and many more rate benefits

Cons: Intel rapid storage (I 7 ) did have some difficulty on first initialization of raid. After installing an updated driver the system performed adequately.

Other Thoughts: I'm thinking about using a smaller form factor and utilizing this card with a server motherboard to make an external storage server for my home office.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, easy upgrade for system

Pros: Very easy installation and setup.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Bought this to upgrade my SATA connections (MB has SATA 2.0 connectors) and wanted to take advantage of faster drive speeds. Have not done any benchmark speed tests, but the system was considerably faster on the old boot drive just from adding this card, and flies now with it booting from an SSD. Old boot time was over a minute, now from password enter to fully up and functioning is less than 15 seconds. Programs also open almost instantly. My computer is considerably older (Intel DX38BT motherboard w/ Core 2 Duo 8400 processor) and for less than $300 (SSD and this card) I feel like I have a new computer.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card ONCE you get the drivers to work

Pros: Very fast card. My intel SSD is getting around 500 read/write in AS SSD benchmark.

Cons: Very difficult to get the drivers to work.

Other Thoughts: Ok this is what I did to get the drivers to work. Install the card, boot normally, and go to device manager and click the browse for driver link. Now this is where it gets tricky. There isn't any folder in the included disc that says 640L. What you need to do is browse the WHOLE CD and make sure the box that says "include subfolders" is checked. This was the only way I was able to find the drivers in windows 7 pro 64bit. I tried this while no SSD was connected to the card. I hope this helps someone out there. Oh and the driver it found had some different Marvel name but everything works fine. I plan on running 2 SSD's on each channel. Even though this card will support 4 or more SSD's it only has two lanes. The two slots facing the same direction are probably one lane and the other two are the other.

5 out of 5 eggsGood card for my needs

Pros: Works right out of the box. The card supports 3TB hard drives without any issues. The speed are great it's matching the speed of the hard drive witch is around 200MB/s in Raid 1. The web management software allow easy management and email notification. Love it!

Cons: the only weak point of the card is the installation of the driver for the web interface and the web interface. The menu on the cd doesnt give an automatic installation for those, you have to look under the hood. But if you fallow the instructions and you know how to play with drivers its an easy game.

Other Thoughts: Bought that for my home serveur (running windows 8,1 x64). I wanted a raid 1 with 3TB drive and a speed faster then gigabyte ethernet. Did the trick love it!

1 out of 5 eggsWill not boot connected SSD

Pros: Not expensive

Cons: Will not boot up OS ssd as startup windows drive. Hangs up at vmi pooling data screen . Using older x58 board with sata2 . Only recognizes drive IF OS ssd is connected back unto x58 motherboard sata2.

Other Thoughts: Disconnected all hard drives except the OS ssd which is connected to this 640L card and no luck. Need help on this. Thanks.
