1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this as a PC monitor

Pros: I purchased this simply because it claimed to be 120Hz and I figured it's should work great as a PC monitor especially for games. Don't even think about using it as a PC monitor. It's a complete scam. False advertising with nothing but lies. The text looks so out of focus at any distance it will ruin your eyes 100% guaranteed. No matter what viewing angles you try the text will always be out of focus. It only handles 60Hz input and it always defaults to a refresh rate of 24Hz every time I launch a game like Crysis 3. Tech Support from Visio where not helpful at all but I decided to keep it anyway because I have no other monitor as a replacement and I don't want to deal with RMA's plus i can't for wait for weeks without a monitor. At first it had lots of input lag. Response time for audio was really bad but maybe they fixed something in a Windows 8.1 update or remotely with firmware updates because it's not as bad as it was on day one. It's still not good for gaming but I guess that's my fault. I don't want to blame Newegg because I don't think they knew all the exact details about the product.

Cons: - Bad viewing angles.
- Bad input lag and response time.
- Audio problems over HDMI.
- It ruins your eyes. ( I never had vision problems before)
- 120Hz it's a scam. It only handles 24Hz , 59Hz and 60Hz.
- You can't overdrive it not even to at least 75Hz.
- Often it defaults to 24Hz but AMD is guilty on that one too because it doesn't provide any proper options to force a desired refresh rate or to overdrive it.

Other Thoughts: It seems like the bigger the screen size the worse it gets on response time and input lag. Use a 24" monitor for gaming because this product is nothing but headaches. Anything bigger than 24" screen size will be too slow for gaming. I know it sucks but this is what we have so far.

4 out of 5 eggsE390i-A1 39" has audio issues, great screen

Pros: This review is for a new, not reconditioned unit.
Does 1080i/p spectacularly.
Great viewing angles.
Vivid true colors that show it when a show has doctored their colors to be more colorful (HK).
3 HDMI inputs.
Not too heavy.
Comes with internal speakers.
Reasonable price.
Vizio's reputation.

Cons: Internal speakers are weak and resonate at a certain frequency, distorting some speech.
Audio outputs are a bit limited.
Surround only by optical SPDIF, and then only Dolby surround is supported.
Stand tilts TV upward just slightly, only about 1.5 degrees, no adjustment.
Could be too dark for brightly lit rooms.
Only one non-HDMI input (composite, Tivo Premier HD has composite out).

The sound was lacking, did not have much low-end frequency, and not very loud either - I'm not usually satisfied with most stock TV speakers anyway. Mounting it against a solid wall might improve it, IDK. When we had loud fan(s) running (in the summer) we had to turn it up nearly all the way to hear the words. It also has a distortion (resonance) at a particular frequency when turned up >77%, and it only affects a few actor's voices, but they are noticeably distorted at that point - I didn't try filtering out the frequency with the included 5-band graphic equalizer that only works when you turn OFF "SRS studioSound HD." Now if you live in a quiet environment, or if you watch the TV at low volumes that other people can't hear, that wouldn't be a problem to you. And my hearing is excellent - all frequencies - as my hearing test results prove.

Other Thoughts: This review is specifically for the Vizio model E390i-A1 39" widescreen 1080p LCD TV W/digital tuner. I only used the component inputs, I have no devices to feed it HDMI. I used the 1080i, 720p, and 480i/p modes. The screen render is spectacular. However, we don't have a particularly bright living room when the sun is shining in, if you do this unit may not be bright enough for you - such as many large windows facing south in your viewing room. We found it just bright enough to be totally pleased with the display.

But if you need to overcome city noises, child noises, fan noises, air conditioning noise, etc. you will be disappointed with the sound as I was. I bought an auto-shutoff amplifier and hooked it up to our excellent home stereo speakers and now the sound is excellent, shakes the house. If you are using a home theater surround sound system, and if you are not using this unit just as a monitor (in which case sound doesn't matter) you are probably not considering this unit anyway. It is worth noting that the RCA stereo outputs go dead when you turn the E390i-A1 off, so an auto-shutoff amplifier works great with that - but the E390i-A1 volume control only affects the RCA stereo output levels when you have all the sound menu settings set just right, and some other settings make it too quiet to use in less than quiet rooms.

It's too bad that the sound is lacking, because this has an excellent display. I have been watching NFL football on it and the clarity of detail on the field is phenomenal, and beautiful colors that seem to be right on target with the hue. Also the viewing angles are great, the colors don't wash out much until you reach a very tight angle (like approx. 30-40* from parallel to surface).

One (other) caveat: I did have trouble at first with the display brightness dimming and brightening noticeably with no apparent reason, until I turned off "smart dimming" in the options. At first I thought my model did not have that option in the menu, until I noticed the "more" option in the onscreen menu under "picture" (it's in the manual too). As others have said on the reviews I had to turn this off, as the picture brightness was changing regardless of the steady room lighting state. This is also the only way to achieve the maximum LED backlight brightness, which I set to 100%, seemed just a tiny bit dark before at the default 95%.

4 out of 5 eggsFairly Decent

Pros: After owning this Television set for two months I have to say I am quite pleased with the purchase.
Built-In netflix is also decent and has been the primary use of television watching when a game isn't being played.
Speakers are actually not too bad, I was expecting worse but they are good for a bedroom sized room. For a living room though you will want something more powerful.

Cons: Poor implementation of streaming from PC to TV over network. The Menu times out and becomes unresponsive, I have an extensive collection of Television and Movies on my network that I want to stream to the TV but I am unable to.
Not true 120hz, Everything has played at 60hz and below. I contacted support and they said it was designed this way. Very strange that it's advertised as 120hz but there is no way to use 120hz on the set.

Other Thoughts: If streaming over the network worked I would easily give this 5 stars, I can see it can be patched and updated and I hope that this feature gets some serious attention and is updated in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: Works well, good clean image. Setup was easy (did it without manual). Came in original box, but was obviously a display model as it was still in Demo mode when I got it and had some dust on it. All original packaging with exception of owners manual which I eventually printed from website. Shipped quickly too.

Cons: Someone stripped out one of the base mount screws, so I had to tap the threads to clean them up before I could complete the mount. This was the reason for the loss of one egg.

Other Thoughts: It was listed as a refurb, but obviously never required refurbishing. Given the discount amount this was an excellent deal. I'm a regular Newegg customer and will remain so as long as I get deals like this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: Everything. Great picture, excellent viewing angle, even the sound is good. I'm spoiled that my first flat screen TV is a smart TV, it's connectivity to the internet is a really really nice convenience.

Can't tell it's a refurb, came in the original packaging. Only "flaw" is a very small chip on the back of the stand. Everything arrived as it was new.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: 330$ for a 39 inch smart true HD tv? That's also a great brand? It's a steal. 39" is perfect for me, it may be small by other people's standards but if you're sitting <10 feet away from your TV it's a perfect size.
