4 out of 5 eggsNot too bad

Pros: It works. Convenient for when you're lacking USB and Firewire ports.

Cons: It feels sorta flimsy, like it'll snap in your hands. Don't have it at the edge of your desk above a wooden floor, it'll definitely shatter if it falls off.

Other Thoughts: Don't make the same mistake I did, and assume that a Firewire hub is an alternative to having Firewire ports installed into the computer. If you want the Firewire to work, you need to already have Firewire inputs installed into your motherboard. According to the IOGear representative who called me back after I left them an angry message, they get calls about this all the time. Apparently this misconception is very common.

1 out of 5 eggsFirewire ports NOT powered

Pros: Not sure

Cons: I bought this to provide power to a digital camera that gets power over firewire which I want to use with a laptop. Laptops do not provide power over their 4 pin firewire ports. This hub had a power supply, unfortunately it only provides 5V for the USB ports, firewire uses 12V. I suspect this is why other users reported the firewire ports did not work.

Other Thoughts: Currently Newegg is selling the BELKIN F5U526-APL FireWire 6-Port Hub. The manufacture's web site states that it provides 1.5A at 12 Volts, that is what I am going to buy now.

1 out of 5 eggsbadbadbad firewire

Pros: USB and firewire together

Cons: Firewire worked for about a month and I got RMA. Replaced one worked for one year and firewire died again.

Other Thoughts: Only USB worked ok without any problems. If you want to have firewire hub, avoid this one.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's 2 hubs in 1, not a converter

Pros: It's a low cost hub with both FireWire and USB 2.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Some people seem to think this is some sort of FireWire/USB adapter. It is not. It is a FireWire hub that lets you connect 2 devices to 1 computer (3 ports total). And its also a USB hub. It doesn't convert signals between the two hubs.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support Firewire to USB????

Pros: I haven't really found any

Cons: I can't get it to recognize my Canon HV20 which will only export HDV via Firewire and my motherboard does not have a firewire connection. I sent Iogear an email and they claim that this device doesn't support Firewire to USB connections. What in the world does it do then?

1 out of 5 eggsFireWire ports DEAD

Pros: NONE -- I needed both FireWire AND USB ports to work.

Cons: Wasting your time setting it up. Don't do it!

Other Thoughts: What an amazing piece of JUNK! I thought that I might get lucky and get one that didn't have dead FireWire ports, but I was wrong. After trying three FW drives and 2 cables, I came to the conclusion that this hub was too broken to use. Now I must take it back to [the store] where I got it. At least I didn't get it from NewEgg. This device is still JUNK.
