5 out of 5 eggsGreat Choice for a first build

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: > PRICE: $25 after rebate is solid.

> 80+ Bronze

> Quiet fan: granted, maybe I just haven't heard it kick on due to an intake fan feeding into the gap between my gpu and this psu, but I haven't noticed the PSU fan. That's really all you want isn't it? To not be distracted by the mundane operations of your computer?

>Pre-sleeved cables (unless you really want to fit a color scheme and sleeve them yourself, but at this price point I don't think many people want that)

> plenty of connections (especially if you can get some 4-pin peripheral->whatever adapters)

> Good warranty and good experience with customer support (see other thoughts)

Cons: > Some of the cables are a little shorter than I would like (despite being "extra long"), making it difficult to get them positioned how I want. This may be more likely to be an issue with bottom-mounted cases, but in my Antec Three Hundred they don't have any trouble reaching everything on my ATX board around my MSI FrozrV GTX960 and CryoRig H7.

> Not modular? Having to find somewhere to stuff all those extra connections can be a bit of a hassle, but certainly not the biggest annoyance overall.

> In depth independent reviews have pointed out that this line (CX***) of PSU's from Corsair have trouble delivering the maximum rated power consistently. I can't find the link (it was a website dedicated to PSU reviews and testing), but I remember seeing that the CX line tended to begin showing voltage drops around 85% of the rated wattage. This would mean blue screens and random shutoffs in a computer. Bad. However, as long as you account for this in your build (pcpartpicker.com will help you do that) there shouldn't be a problem. And honestly, for a majority of rigs that are going to be looking at psu's in this price range this will not be an issue. Just leave yourself a little extra buffer like I did by choosing this CX500 over the CX430. $5 difference for a little peace of mind and some breathing room to upgrade in the future ain't so bad.

Other Thoughts: So I'm sure everybody is familiar with the quagmire that is a typical mail-in rebate. You give them $20 more than you wanted to pay for a thing and they say they'"Don't worry,ll give it back to you." Then they spout some B.S. reason about how you misspelled your mother's maiden name on form 29F page 3 line 44 and as pursuant the terms of the rebate your claim is now denied and oh that rebate is now closed so you can't appeal this we're "very sorry".

Well Corsair didn't do that to me, and I really appreciate it.

I bought this psu on the last day of one mail in rebate and forgot to download the form until the next day, when a new rebate (which happened to be for the same amount, but a different code) had taken hold. I submitted it with the error, and got denied. I was very confused and chatted with support and she fixed it for me on the spot. I can't remember her name for the life of me, Kelly G. maybe? Kicking myself for not writing it down, but I did give her a good review :) This is so much the opposite of every other MiR experience I've had that I want to give Corsair's customer support team a pat on the back for that.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent budget PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Used on my new budget build (Asus A88X-Plus MB, AMD Athlon 860K). Works nicely. Is very, very quiet. I don't OC or anything like that, so this is perfect for me. Got it on sale with a rebate, which makes it extra nice!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: For the price, this can't be beat.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Price

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Price
-Brand
-Quality

I use a corsair 750 fully modular in my build with a 80plus gold rating. I found this very cheap power supply and almost expected cheap quality, but I was wrong. i found amazing quality in this PSU.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: wished it was fully modular to make cable management of unused cables easier but for the price I can't complain

5 out of 5 eggsIt works!

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It does everything it is supposed to. It is a Corsair, which is a solid brand. It has a decent warranty, to boot. What more is there to say?
Oh, and 80+ Bronze certified. I purchased this for $25, after MIR.

Cons: Not modular? But I knew that when I purchased it.
One of the screw holes did not line up perfectly on the computer case I was installing this in, so I was forced to use 3 screws to stabilize it. I think this is an issue with the case, as I had some trouble with the previous PSU, as well.

Other Thoughts: If you need a 500W PSU, and are on a budget, it is very hard to go wrong with this one. If you're limited on space, maybe opt for a modular power supply... but if you're in a Mid Tower sized case, you should be fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Great Price, exactly as advertised, I should have read more because it did not have the connector I needed, but kudos to Newegg who refunded my money and I purchased the right power supply.

Cons: None, I never hooked it up !

Other Thoughts: You have to love shopping Newegg !

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performer!

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Solid feeling PSU, does not feel cheap like some other cheaper PSU's I've had...this one is sturdy, heavy and the finish coat is nice.
Comes with long enough cables and plenty of connectors to reach their designated area.
80 PLUS Bronze Certified
Built in fan is super quiet
I'm not running anything big but just an 85W CPU and 670GT graphics card so 500W is more than enough power!
Lastly, it's a Corsair...quality and reliability!

Cons: None so far after 2 months of usage! I use my main PC almost 24 hours a day and sometimes I have to leave it on for more than 5 days straight!

Other Thoughts: I got this PSU for my main PC build and it works well...what else can I say other than it's a Corsair...it means quality and reliability! If you got one that doesn't work, it's a manufacturing issue which NOT even Apple an control...so just return it and get another one.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with all of my Corsair PSU's.

Highly recommend this PSU unit at 500W for one graphics card...if you're doing SLI or CrossFire (2x graphics cards), you might want to get something with more wattage.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid PSU does what you ask it to

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: No issues here, plug n play so to speak. I enjoy the look inside the case too. I was worried that a non modular PSU would leave lots of wires everywhere, it wasn't hard to hid the unused wires.

Cons: none, works great.

Other Thoughts: Corsair is great across the board, and if their product does fail you, call them first instead of writing a bad review, nothing is perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't be happier

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Bought it in December of 2012 and it's been working great ever since! It powers my evga gtx 660 ti with no problems at all. Great value and reliability for the money.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you don't mind spending the few extra bucks, you could get the modular version.

5 out of 5 eggsClassic power

This review is from: CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I've used many Corsair CX units over the years, and I have yet to be disappointed. Stable power for basic systems. I don't know that I'd put a full gaming rig on a CX unit for an extended amount of time, but it's perfect for lower power systems were you want something that will just work.

Cons: None that I can think of. It's not priced at modular/80+ gold/etc, so that can't be a con.
