5 out of 5 eggsNice for the Price

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: cheap, well packaged, cheap, gets the job done, cheap, did I say cheap?

Cons: the connectors felt really sharp and cheap handling it, but it's not like I'm going to be holding the connectors while using it...

Other Thoughts: Get it, overall good PSU for the price.

1 out of 5 eggsBlew and caught my PC on fire!!!

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Design, price, looks

Cons: I've had this power supply in my newly built non-gaming basic setup PC for about 2 months now and it ran with no problems. Today while I was on the phone and the PC was idle, it burst into flames. It burned up my [Plextor] DVD player power cable until it totally melted and caught fire before blowing the power supply and who knows what else. I would figure a direct short would take out a fuse long before the house burned down (good thing I was home and it didn't!). I have NEVER had anything like this happen to me or anyone I know before. What gives here? Now I have to spend hundreds more trying to rebuild my PC again. I will NOT be buying this same power supply!!!

Other Thoughts: No external fusing. What is the internal fuse, 50 amps?!?!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Mini Towers

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Corsair quality, modular PSU, good price (with rebate), quiet.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I got this for my daughter-in-law's PC. It's a modest Athlon IIx4 system with an ATI 5770 card in one of Rosewill's mini towers. There is simply no way to effectively hide cables in one of those mini towers, and the PSU we originally installed had a very noisy cooling fan. This Corsair PSU is quiet, and we were able to run only the cables needed so the interior is much tidier with better airflow.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't cheap out on this PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: very cheap for a 500w psu after rebate.

Cons: Causing my newly built PC to randomly shutting down, rebooting, ultimately damaging my operating system and my PC components.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: I bought this for my microATX build. Since it's modular, cable management was much easier. No problems so far.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I awkwardly forgot to flip the switch -on- and feared the worst when I tried to boot up my new build for the first time. Yeah.

1 out of 5 eggshardly worked to begin with now doesn't at all

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: cheap-on sale
modular

Cons: So, I got this power supply to go with my new mini-ITX build. I assembled everything correctly and fired it up. It worked fine for a while and then started shutting down randomly. I thought it might be a heat problem so I have some cooling products on the way. Turns out this wasn't the problem anyhow as the power supply started to fade in and out. I could see it in the LED's on my mouse. Then it started acting like it couldn't power its own fan and would sort of chug it around lackadaisically and eventually stopped. Upon investigation, when i moved the main power cord for the CPU/motherboard it would whir to life a little and die again. So, I went and got my 7 year old raidmax power supply from my old computer and plugged it in. Have not had a problem since, so I'm pretty darn sure it was the power supply.

Other Thoughts: Next paycheck I'm still getting a new power supply because the raidmax is old but it still completely functions.
