5 out of 5 eggsVery good PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Excellent build quality(as expected from Corsair)
Alot better then my old 1000w Rosewill bronze psu
QUIET
Works as it should.
Highly Recommend if searching for a good psu to buy.
Affordable
FULLY MODULAR! This is my first psu that is actually fully modular and is awesome to only plug in the cables you need and not the ones you don't.

Cons: None as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Fan doesn't spin until its needs to/under load
Cables are a good length for full tower cases.

1 out of 5 eggsBad PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: modular, that's it.

Cons: After replacing a Corsair TX750, this PSU caused multiple hard drive failures, was hot to the touch as the fan never spun up, and graphics card was overheating without fans spinning on it either. (Yes I know what I am doing, everything is plugged in the way it suppose to be.) After multiple Windows 7 and 10 failed installs, I decided to put the Corsair TX750 back in and VOILA! Windows 10 installs cleanly, graphics card fans spin up as suppose to. and the PSU is cool to touch. It was infact the power supple.

Other Thoughts: I have never had a bad Corsair PSU in over 10 builds. This feels like a cheap PSU compared to the TX750(which is getting long in the tooth and needs replaced.) Corsair, it is a real inconvenience to take apart your PC only to have to do it again! I honestly don't know what to do as replacing something that has the same problem over and over with another one is horrible. I want the reliability of the TX750 with 850 power and modular.

4 out of 5 eggslike the flat wires.......

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The flat wires are pretty cool and look great....It is really quiet not too sure if the modular layout was the way to go as, I used all the power ports except 2....Still looks really clean in my new case.

Cons: Not to sure if this is a con...the Quietness of this unit kinda scares me. I know the fan comes on at 40% load but it seems to me it is still producing heat below the 40% mark and should have a Thermal load detector also....Wonder how long this is going to last.

Other Thoughts: I don't Really have any other thoughts.

1 out of 5 eggsCorsair RM850 Died

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: None

Cons: Well after three months installed in my new build, my Corsair RM850 died. Came home to find the PC off. No boot. Dead as a door nail. Got our my PSU tester, and it failed all tests. Installed my 6 year old EVGA PSU into my new machine and booted up perfectly. Guess it is time to contact Corsair for an RMA.

3 out of 5 eggsRM850 PSU

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Absolutely quite(as fan never spins), has Corsair Link for monitoring voltages and fan speeds although I don't see how its any different than Asus PC Probe II.

Cons: I am VERY concerned that the FAN does not turn on during long PC intensive/gaming sessions. As I am sure that my pc is using well over 40% of 850 or 340watts! See my system configuration under other thoughts as PSU power calculator has my total wattage at approximately 600Watts under max load!!!

I WILL GIVE IT 3 STARS AS IT IS STILL WORKING BUT DONT SEE IT LASTING LONG WITH OUT PROPER COOLING.

Other Thoughts: this is my current system hardware config:

Windows 7 Professional x64
Asus M4A89 GTD PRO 890GX/SB850 140Watt
Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.86 GHz OC'ed -- H2O
Asus ROG Poseidon Platinum GeForce GTX 780 -- OC'ed 1200Mhz cpu and 7000Mhz mem - H2O
Custom duel loop H20 cooling - MCP655 Vario 12v DC Pump - 60mm Rad - 1/2" OD tubing
8 GB 2X4GB G.Skill RipJaws X @ 1866 MHz
Samsung 840 PRO 256gbs & 7 HDD'S 5TB total storage
Corsair RM850 850W PSU
Cold cathode UVlight
3x COUGAR CF-V12HPB Vortex Fans

SO THIS SETUP IS FOR SURE PULLING 340WATTS -- YET PSU DOES NOT SPIN FAN!

5 out of 5 eggsNICE! Very few complaints...

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: This PSU is pretty nice. Fully modular. Cables are flat and contrary to some people's complaints, very manageable in my 6 year old CM tower. Plenty of misc. cables. Very easy to install. Stable and reliable. Solid, quality feel when you first take it out of the box. Good packing and secure padding.

Cons: Virtually none. But I do want to be 100% honest so that a potential buyer gets the whole story.

Cable connection could fit a little tighter into PSU and a little looser into hardware. Neither are deal breakers by any means imo.

Other Thoughts: My setup:

AMD FX 9590 8 Core 4.7 CPU

Radeon R9 280x OC WindForce

Asus M5A97 R2.0 MoBo

Adata 265 Gb SSD (Sata 6)

WD 750 Gb 7200 HDD

Thermaltake Water 3.0 performance CPU cooler

2x DVD Writeable drives

3 120mm case fans

....

I calculated my setup at about 720ish watts requirement, so I went with this 850. It DOES get a bit .. a BIT mind you, hot under decent load. I do also slightly underclock my cpu and have gone into BIOS and adjusted some options for optimal temperature priority/solution as well.

Take it as you may, but won't list it as a con. Just stating info for comparison or whatever helpful use it may provide you with.

I write this because I feel the fan should function a little earlier on maybe?

Again, nothing listed constitutes a con by any means.

2 out of 5 eggsbroken from out of the box

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Smelt clean out of the box, like a new car ? Not sure if thats a good thing

Cons: TL:DR the fan never spun under heavy loads, random consecutive shut downs and it fried my hardware when it died.

It barely worked for 2 months. from out of the box the fan never spun when started nor under heavy load. i expected the fan to spin when starting . you know , show -some- kind of life and functionality, but as I read on forums the fan on this PSU doesnt normally spin when starting the computer . I personally think this is a pretty big con . given that anything with a fan in your computer normally spins up at the start , even if the part isn't always on like a second video card when under light load, it will still power on at the start and then shut off when not in use.

Worryingly , I tested the PSU with Planetside 2 on max. it was the heaviest game I had at the time. It lasted a good while before my computer spontaneously shutdown mid game ,the fan never spinning up once. The PSU and rig entirely barely reaching typical gaming temps with the case open.

After shutting down it quickly tries to boot it self back up on its own like a flickering light slowly dying out if I didnt force it off by switching off the volt switch in the back of the PSU

Time passed and the issue seemed to happen less and less so ignored it.
till I bought battlefield hardline ,
Battlefield put my rig under a bit more of a heavy load then planetside did
I believe this caused the issue with the PSU fan never spinning even under heavy loads to kill the PSU which caused my HDD, and my CDdrive to get fried from it

Because of this faulty PSU I needed to purchase a new PSU ,HDD , OS, and CDdrive.

I now use an EVGA 850 G2 , happily ,it runs as it should. for the few days ive been using it under heavy and light loads.
this is just my experience with corsair's PSU . and it put a very bad taste in my mouth for them.
with my experience I can not comfortably recommend buying one (if you value your other parts connected to it)
if I could get a full refund i would.
