3 out of 5 eggsPower Supply Connectors

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The power supplier have features that are overall desirable. The form factor is good and it could fit in a relatively small case. The out bank is well organized and labelled clearly. Silent fan mode works as intended.

Cons: The critical issue that we encountered related to the really poor quality of the connectors. They are made of a relatively soft plastic compound, and the tolerance of the critical dimension of the locking tab is off to the extent that prevents a positive engagement with the corresponding receptacles. The amount of force required to assemble the connectors, particularly the 24-pin, is excessive. We had to carefully adjust the inner surface of the locking tab in order to have the connector to properly latch. The motherboard was a high end one (ASUS X99 Deluxe). THE QUALITY OF THE CONNECTORS SHOULD BE DEFINITIVELY IMPROVED, PARTICULARLY CONSIDERING THE COST OF THE HARDWARE. Additionally the 24-pin cable should be longer.

Other Thoughts: None

5 out of 5 eggsGood Power Supply

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: The power supply is light.
Runs cool.
Doesn't use the fan unless under load.
Stays quiet.

Cons: Cables are cheap feeling.
They are stiff and don't click in easily.
No instructions came in the box. This is only a con because the pci express cables come with two 6+2 ends to an 8 pin end and I had to figure out if it was safe to use both on the same cable or if I needed two. The easy answer is the same cable powers both plugs on the same graphics card. They should have noted that.

Other Thoughts: Cool and quiet and plenty of power for a powerful cpu and multiple graphics cards.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Very stable.
Under most loads, the fan doesn't even need to turn on.
Fully modular.

Cons: As some have reported, the cables are a little stiff initially, but it wasn't too hard to bend them into the right shape and they stay in position well.

Other Thoughts: I'm very happy with this thing. I don't think I can come close to overloading it with my gaming rig. I recommend this product.

1 out of 5 eggsSecond RM1000 has Died in 12 Months

This review is from: CORSAIR RM Series RM1000 1000W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Quiet since the fan doesn't spin (also a con)
Corsair RMA process is efficient

Cons: Two separate units have died in 12 months
Cables are very stiff and difficult to work with
Having to pay $40.00 to ship two dead PSU's back for RMA

Other Thoughts: I simply cannot recommend this product, this is the second RM1000 PSU to fail on me within 12 months. The first unit shut off completed in the middle of a gaming session and never turned back on, it would supply power to the motherboard but I couldn't boot my computer.

Corsair RMA was fast, I received a replacement unit a week later and it was working well for 2 months until my computer shut down while browsing the Internet. Over the next 2 weeks the computer would power off during random times, sometimes in the middle of a game and other times just on a Windows desktop. Eventually it got to the point where the computer will only last 5 minutes before shutting down.

In both instances, swapping in a spare PSU fixed the issue immediately. I checked both of the PSU's for any burning or broken capacitors however I could not find anything obvious. At this point I have no idea why these PSU's are failing, I can only speculate that they are overheating and dying due to low voltage draw and the fan isn't spinning. My case is well ventilated and my case temps are pretty low but the PSU gets very hot to the touch.
