1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

This review is from: XFX ProSeries P1-1050-BEFX 1050W ATX12V 2.2 / ESP12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Plenty of power
Modular
Gold certified
Aesthetically pleasing (Looked great with my D-Frame)
Price

Cons: Completely dead after 3 months. It worked great for the 3 months it did, but without warning it is completely toast. I was using my PC the night prior without issue, powered it off properly and went to bed. Woke up in the morning, went to turn it on, nothing. After some testing and troubleshooting, it turns out the PSU died in its sleep. I have no idea what could have possibly happened, but I am extremely disappointed. Despite the poor reviews, I had high hopes for this PSU. I should have listened.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We're sorry you are having issues with your PSU. Fortunately it comes with a 5 Year Warranty and we would be happy to service/replace it under that warranty.

Please create a ticket at xfxsupport.com and contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com if you have any questions.

As for the unit dieing, it could be many things. The biggest suspect is likely lack of a surge protector.

1 out of 5 eggsXFX ProSeries 1050 PSU

This review is from: XFX ProSeries P1-1050-BEFX 1050W ATX12V 2.2 / ESP12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: When it worked, it was very nice. Full modular design is awesome. Great Specs.

Cons: Worked for 7 months and then had problems.
After shutting down computer, I could only get a restart after removing all power from the PSU for at least 2 minutes, then I could start the computer.

Stuff happens and I don't expect perfection, but I do expect better customer support. Read "Other Thoughts"

My review is repeat of review from ROG Tech dated 12/10/2013.

Other Thoughts: As I said, 7 months after installing the PSU, I would have to remove all power from the PSU to get the computer going again. Now the fun starts.

Go online to XFXForce Support....there are no phone lines to tech support.

You fill out an online form for a "chat" with a tech. When they approve the chat (24-72 hours later) they will open a dialogue. Even though I outlined the problem in my initial contact, the chat started with, "tell me your problem"

I detailed my problem again...which essentially isolated the issue to the PSU---wait 24-72 hours

Response..."Can you put it in another computer" meaning, rip it out of your existing computer, rip apart another computer you must have lying around, install it in another computer and see if you get the same problem.

My response. No, I am fresh out of spare computers. Let me outline the problem again and how I am reasonably sure it's the PSU...now wait 24-72 hours for a response.

They respond, I guess you are right. I approve an RMA. Wait until I send you the RMA number....that did appear in a few hours.

RMA process. Rip the PSU out of the computer. Send it to us. We will test it to make sure we think you have a valid claim and we will send you a refurbished one. According to ROG Tech, this takes 2 weeks.

Now let me take you through another brand process for a bad PSU still in warranty (they forbid me to mention the name...sorry). Call them. They ask a few questions. They agree, and take your Credit Card Info. They advise you if they don't see the bad PSU in 30 days, they will charge your card. I say very fair. Two days later, I have another PSU and my computer is up and running. I return the bad PSU and they do not charge my credit card. I write a glowing review for the other brand.

You decide. My decision is never to buy another XFX product again.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We're sorry you are dissapointed with your recent PSU failure. Our phone lines are available MON-FRI 9AM-5PM PST. 800 880 3225.

Our PSU Replacements are always new units.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Customer Service

This review is from: XFX ProSeries P1-1050-BEFX 1050W ATX12V 2.2 / ESP12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nice design...a lot of power...when it works

Cons: Failed after 7 months. Believe it or not, I don't judge a product because it fails. That can happen to anything. I judge the product by the support a company provides after one of its' products fails. Bottom line. If you buy XFX anything, you had better hope it doesn't fail.

1.There is no phone number to talk to anyone. You have to start a "ticket" and explain your problem. They then decide if your complaint deserves recognition through a "chat process" online. This is not a "live" process. You outline your problem again, submit it, and wait 24-72 hours for a reply. You reply and wait 24-72 hours for a reply....and so on...

2. Once they decide you actually do have a valid complaint, you have to send in the PSU, let them process the exchange before they will send you a replacement. So you are without a computer for the duration of the process.

The end result is, I have to buy another PSU (certainly not an XFX) and install it so I am not without a computer for the weeks I go through the RMA process. Not acceptable for a $200 PSU!

Other Thoughts: I had a Rosewill PSU fail about a year ago. I called and within minutes they had a replacement tome in 2 days. They took my Credit Card information and would charge me only if I never sent them the bad unit. Ironically, the same issue, but I wrote a glowing review because I was so impressed with their customer support. I should have bought another Rosewill PSU....lesson learned.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Glibb, we're sorry you had an issue with your PSU.

We request all of our customers call in with a ticket number. It saves alot of wasted time when we dont "assume" what you have in your system. Also, it lets us add notes to your ticket and account, making it so the next technician can take over where the last one left off.

However, we do not turn down calls for lack of a ticket number.

We want this process to feel as streamlined as it can feel.

This unit has a 5 year warranty, please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com for assistance.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

This review is from: XFX ProSeries P1-1050-BEFX 1050W ATX12V 2.2 / ESP12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -none

Cons: - Can't keep my computer powered for more than a few hours, after a shutdown, I'm unable to power the machine without removing cord, and draining the power.

Other Thoughts: I've already tested other parts, and replaced other things I thought would be causing the issue. Unfortunately the only thing left is the PSU which tends to be the problem 90 percent of the time. I tried to give XFX a chance, as I was a fan of the quality of their graphics cards, however this PSU issue which has plagued me for over a month is reason enough to not purchase anything other than their cards.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat, for the 2 hours it lasted

This review is from: XFX ProSeries P1-1050-BEFX 1050W ATX12V 2.2 / ESP12V 2.91 SLI CrossFire 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Great features, full modular.

Cons: After loading up Windows, I was loading my optical drive drivers when a loud popping sound comes from the computer. Turns out, it blew a circuit breaker. This was NOT due to a power surge, the PSU was behind an APC UPS. It blew a 20 amp breaker. I am PRAYING it did not fry my hardware. By the way, I bought this through another vendor, not NewEgg. Wishing maybe I had.

Other Thoughts: I will happily edit this review based on the response I get from XFX. The support@xfxforce.com email is automated, and only gives a response to use some ticket system that gave me a 404 error. I have a phone number, and will update accordingly. I am NOT feeling very reassured right now.
