5 out of 5 eggs4 superspeed usb 3.0 ports

Pros: Brings usb 3.0 to the front of the case. Windows7 recognized it right away.

Cons: Wish it came in the bigger bay size.

Other Thoughts: Been using this over a year and it works great.

1 out of 5 eggsVoltage backfeeds

Pros: USB3.0 works fine

Cons: I have 2 of these in 2 different computers. When your computer is off the voltage will backfeed back through the USB cable and power case fans, cpu fans, neon lights, although it is only 5v not 12v potentially damaging your computer and shortening the components life. So far I have not found an answer through SIIG. I would not recommend this device to anyone.

Other Thoughts: A simple diode would have solved this problem before it began.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks somewhat

Pros: This hub allows connection to USB 3.0 ports on the front of the case.

Cons: The problem I have noticed is, I can only connect one USB 3.0 device at a time to this hub. I connected two devices and only one will be seen by the computer. I have not found a solution to this problem yet.

Other Thoughts: The hub I got works fine with just one device connected. It's too bad I can not use the other 3 ports at the same time.

1 out of 5 eggsBAD BAD BAD

Pros: It is USB 3.0.

Cons: I have had 2 of these from Newegg. I am getting ready to send the 2nd one back. I have tried to get support from the vendor for my issue to no success.

Other Thoughts: When this is plugged into my computer and the computer is OFF it cycles up the CPU fans every 3 seconds, and spins the Blu-Ray. When I turn it on no problems. I tried it in USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports.

I put it in another computer, usb 2.0 only. When the computer is OFF it Lights up every LED on all the fans in the case and causes the harddrive light to stay on. When I turn it on, again no problem.

I have had the same issue with 2 separate HUBs.
This is a vendor problem.

3 out of 5 eggsCould be great

Pros: Looks good, installs easily, and works well.

Cons: As more motherboards come with both internal and external USB 3.0 ports this item could be terrific but... siig DOES NOT send a cable for connection to an internal USB 3 port - and, if you call them, will tell they DO NOT HAVE ONE!
You have to open a back card port slot and run a long cable to a back-of-case port. Rediculous!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Needed front USB 3.0 ports, and this fit the bill perfectly. My case only has 2.0 ports on the side.

Cons: None. Works great with flash drives.

Other Thoughts: Saw that Koutech had a flash memory reader with a USB 3.0 port as well. Slightly cheaper and I really only needed one 3.0 port anyway. Next time, I'll probably give that one a try.

4 out of 5 eggsSIIG USB 3.0 4-port bay hub review

Pros: Makes four USB3 (USB2 compatible) ports accessible on the front of your case; can be installed in either a 3.5 or 5.25 slot using the included 3.5-5.25 adapter. Would suggest installing the power cable (connect either SATA power *OR* standard power, connecting both will kill the card, per the instructions!) and internal USB cable before sliding the unit into its slot, as it was hard to reach back in and connect those things after inserting it under a DVD/BD player.

Must be used with a SIIG SuperSpeed 3.0 card (Model JU-P20512-S1), which has an internal USB3 connector to connect to this hub. The internal USB3 cable is included with the 4-port hub; the PCI-X card has one external USB 3.0 connector. The fact that the USB3 cable is included with the hub is not apparent from the info on NewEgg's site or SIIG's "what's in the box" site.

Cons: I bought this to get max speed out of a USB 3.0 flash drive NewEgg had on sale (A-DATA Superior Series 32GB S102 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Titanium Gray) Model AS102-32G-RGY). Before installing the USB3 card/hub, I transferred a 1.6GB movie file from my desktop to the flash drive, and it took 57 seconds at Windows-reported 25MB/sec using USB2. After installing the hub and SIIG's supplied version 1.0.20.0 drivers, I got 34MB/sec, and transferred the same file in 40 seconds. This is with a Win7 64 bit quad core system with 8GB of RAM. I upgraded the drives to the latest NEC USB3.0 SuperSpeed drivers (SIIG buys the chipset from NEC), version 2.0.30.0, and saw no difference in performance. I'm not sure the $100 I spent to add USB 3.0 added a noticeable increase in value to me... I saved 17 seconds copying a 1.6GB file?

Other Thoughts: SIIG has the 1.0.20.0 drivers on the disk and their site, which were released in early 2010; in late 2010 NEC released version 2.0.30.0. SIIG doesn't have them on their site, but Gigabyte uses the NEC chipset, and does have the latest drivers. You can find them here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3768&dl=1#driver

Select 'Drivers' and your O/S, then find the NEC USB 3.0 drivers listed. At the time of this writing, 2.0.30.0 were the latest, dated 11/19/2010. After install, your device manager will list the controller as a 'Renesas Electronics' device instead of an 'NEC' device, but it does work and is the same chipset. If you *need* the latest drivers to fix any issues, this may be worthwhile to you.

2 out of 5 eggstoo esoteric

Pros: It has usb 3 ports on it
adapters for 3.5 bay and 5.25 bay

Cons: The only way this works is if you buy another SIIG product, the internal/external usb 3 port pci card. it hooks up through the case using a regular usb 3 cable which i found silly to have just some random usb cable floating around in the case. One of the only cheap ways to hook it up is to run the cable though the water cooling ports into the back of the case which looks stupid. Also i had a really hard time mounting the stupid thing, i just settled with it just loosely sitting in the case.

Other Thoughts: not sure if the thing even works yet, my motherboard was DOA, but I will try to update the review as i know more. I also had to buy the PCI, usb 3 card that has an internal and external hook-up which was another $50. so overall this purchase was $100 instead of just the $50. BUYERS BEWARE!
