1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Hybrid/modular design improves cable management.

Cons: DOA.

Too many hardwired cables in the hybrid design.

Manufacturer Response:

Stupid Red X,

It's unfortunate that you had a DOA unit. If you're unable to get resolution through Newegg, don't hesitate to contact me at We'll get a new unit to you.

1 out of 5 eggstwo bad

Pros: its a good brand and has a good warranty and is 80 plus bronze

Cons: First was DOA sent it in to be replaced and second one died less than six months

Other Thoughts: products i have bought from Antec have been good some better than others, but this is really disappointing and has cost me an additional $20 for the shipping.

1 out of 5 eggsNever again antec

Pros: Worked like it should until it quit

Cons: I had 2 of these true power 550's, (2 comps) After just over a year the first one went out taking the mobo with it. I replaced the mobo, and got a BFG 650 that is still going strong for about 2 years now in the comp I am typing on now. I put the other Antec 550 I had in this comp on the new mobo in the other and it lasted about another 6 - 8 months before dying and frying yet another mobo. I will not ever trust Antec to my expensive components again.

Other Thoughts: The second Antec did last a little over 2 years before going out so I guess that may be decent. But the fact that both had the same problem and both took the mobo with it just sucks.

1 out of 5 eggsD.O.A.

Pros: Price was great. Tons of cabling.

Cons: Dead on arrival. Suprising for anything Antec, in my experience. Too much cabling that cannot be removed if not used. Go with something more modular.

Other Thoughts: Don't give up on Antec, but this model disapointed me.

1 out of 5 eggs2nd DOA

Pros: Hard to tell on a DOA.

Cons: DOA; the first I received was also DOA

Other Thoughts: Newegg is responsive on replacing failed units. They should perhaps do minimal QC. Two failures in a row is inexcusable. One egg for egg in the face, Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 4 months

Pros: Replaced my old Antec whose 5 volts dropped to 4 V.

Cons: Failed at the 120V connection after 4 months. The failure was a physical one. The cable connector arced inside the unit if the connection was manipulated. Power was maintained if you forced it in a diagonal direction. Without intervention, no power made it to the power supply.

Other Thoughts: I'll be seeking warranty relief.

1 out of 5 eggsNewegg's throttling availability

Pros: Did not buy.

Cons: Did not buy.

Other Thoughts: AMAZING! This item sold out quickly in a day due to a coupon code, which only lasted for 1 day, but as soon as the coupon code expired, the availability on this item miraculously was up. WOW!

1 out of 5 eggsDied within the first week

Pros: Nice looking, and feels solid built. Lots of cables. Quiet when running.

Cons: It runs fine initially, the PC is light loaded, with one 95W processor, on board video and only 1 hard disk. Until the 4th day, when I turn off the computer, it won't start again. And check the PSU with a multimeter, its +5VSB stand by doesn't have any output, per ATX spec, that +5VSB should always be there no matter the PSU is turn on or off. Get RMA it, end up paying shipping cost. Now I'm running on a PSU from other brand, so far so good.

Other Thoughts: It is designed as modular cable, I would prefer to have the SATA power instead of the 4-PIN Molex peripheral power as permanent.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away from this product

Pros: NONE

Cons: I just finish building 5 computer using this power suppply already 3 have die ....And the other two are making some weird noise like is about to die.....Had to buy replacement power supply locally..this power supply sucks worse product from antec...

Other Thoughts: Save your self some money and get another power supply

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry that this customer has experienced this problem. There may be some incompatibility with the power supply and his other components to explain his failures. To the best of our knowledge, for whatever reason, he has not attempted to contact our tech support either, since we have no reported tech support issues with this model any way near similar to what this customer is reporting. We hope he will contact us so that we may assist him. In the meantime we are attempting to get the “failed” units from NewEgg for analysis.

Other customers have not had similar experiences, obviously. Also, Antec was the most reliable PSU vendor in the only, independent analysis of major brand failures from retail, done by, a French website. We were the only company to score under 1% failure rate in that analysis, several of our competitors had failure rates double to five times higher. You can see that here
