5 out of 5 eggsGreat Adapter

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Solid feel

Cons: Can be a pain to get the screws in to mount the 2.5 inch drive due to the size of the holes and the gap from the edge

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Bracket

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Holds two SSD drives in one bay and handles angled terminal SATA cables. By flipping the top drive, both drives can accept angled terminals. The bracket is of high quality, fits well and comes with screws.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Simple, easy, functional

Cons: Just works... I did use my magnetic screw driver to make it a little easier, but it really worked well.

Other Thoughts: If you have the right angle, cables, Simply put the higher up drive upside down

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for HP desktops

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Correct threading for 3.5" HDD screws (# 6-32 UTS), while nearly all other brackets use M3 screws for 2.5" HDDs. Needed for cases that have special isolation grommet screws like HP business desktops
Correct length to match 3.5" drive screw positions, unlike some other brackets (e.g. StarTech Bracket25x2)

Cons: Does not keep SATA data and power connectors in correct position mainly needed for HDD trays/sleds. For that use the more expensive bracket made by CRU, part number 5220-0000-02

5 out of 5 eggsWhat can be said?

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: The adapter bay does what it is supposed to. Dark charcoal paint looks good and does not chip easily. The ability to store two 2.5" drives in each bay is a nice plus. The drive are kept nice and stable.

Cons: The mounting locations for both drives are a little close together. They could have done a better job of spreading them out for better airflow.

Other Thoughts: I have been using these bays for a few weeks and have not had any problems.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Silverstone quality.
Nice finish.
Comes with screws.
Holes line up perfectly with SSD and with the case drive bays.

Cons: None at this price

Other Thoughts: (This is an update to my review of the nickel-plated model I posted earlier this year)

I've purchase and installed 4 of these and they all fit/worked perfectly.
It's silly to me that such a simple stamped/pressed/drilled and tapped piece of metal should be difficult to produce but many other brands that I've tried have left me frustrated. I've had ones with sharp edges, burrs, poorly threaded holes, crooked holes, misaligned holes, etc. This Silverstone is by far the best one I've used.
Every Silverstone product that I have used are top-tier quality from their cases to SATA cables, power cords, fans, etc. They also have great customer service.

Even though this is the "black" model it's not really black. It makes me wonder where NewEgg got that product picture. It's not even black chrome, it's more of a black tinted chrome. By itself I wasn't sure it was black at all and thought maybe NewEgg sent me the wrong one. I couldn't tell it apart from the nickel one until I put them right next to each other.. It still looks great and the finish is excellent so no eggs off but it's something to consider for those expecting it to actually be black.

One note though, if you intend on using this bay convertor with 2 drives you will probably need to purchase the SilverStone CP06-E2 SATA power cable. It has 2 power connectors that are 17mm apart. All the power supplies I have ever used (Seasonic, Corsair, Ultra, etc.) had two to four connectors on one cable that are spaced several inches apart. None of them can be scrunched together to the extremes that would be needed to attach to two SSDs that are less that an inch apart when mounted in this unit, not to mention the stress it would put on the seemingly fragile SSD SATA controller (Samsung anyways). You could always use two separate power cables but then you have quite a bit of extra cable and clutter to deal with. Extra cable length with unused connectors are much more difficult to route and tuck away cleanly. You would also be forced to use SATA cables with 180 degree end connectors as there's not enough room to use 90 degree connectors when they're that close together.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect Fit

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Perfect fit. Attached the no tool rails that came with my case and it slid right into the HD bay and clicked in place. The tray fit my Samsung SSD perfectly with ample room to attach the power and SATA plugs

Cons: There are no mounting holes on the bottom so you have to mount your SSD using the side holes. A magnetic tipped screwdriver makes this easy. It would be very difficult without the magnetic tipped screwdriver so make sure you have one to save yourself some difficulty.

4 out of 5 eggsNice.

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Heavy gauge steel. Nice and smooth. Not a flimsy bracket to say the least.

Cons: A bit light on the paint...it looks more dark grey metallic than black. Still not bad at all.

4 out of 5 eggsIncorrect Picture

This review is from: SilverStone SST-SDP08B 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" Bay Converter (Black)

Pros: Great adapter, the outer screws on the adapter match exactly the size and placement of a standard drive. This means that this adapter will work perfectly with nearly all mounting methods; tool-less, peg, etc.

Cons: The picture on neweggs site is incorrect. This item has a black finish to it which complements some of the newer chassis perfectly.

Other Thoughts: Just wanted to post making note of this discrepancy and hope that Newegg will fix it. I own a previous silver version which I did not purchase from Newegg but I will be getting the black ones for a new build in a chassis w/ black interior.
