5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Backup Drives or for moving large amounts of data between two or more computers. Backing up is not much good if the HD is left in the computer subject to fire, lighting, power surges and th

Pros: Work very well for both SSD's and Conventional HD's ! I Wish I had more available 5.25" slots so I could use more. Currently have 1 in each of two computers and both work great. Just use reasonable care when closing the gate to allow the plugs on the drive to engage the plugs in the rack. A Brisk, but light shove seems to work best.

Cons: Would be nice if SSD and 5.25" slots could be switched on/off independently of each other; but only a minor consideration If you forget to switch the drive out before start-up.

Other Thoughts: Quality seems great for the price and was easy to install; no harder than a standard drive but far handier to use afterwards.

1 out of 5 eggsDont even bother

Pros: Dual 2.5 / 3.5 hot swap bay,
Comes with a power button.

Cons: First off, This drive bay needs 2 sata ports. They are seperate 2.5 and 3.5 connections. Therefore, Installing 2 of these hot swap bays requires 4 sata ports to run them. However, There is only one power switch then per HSB. They should have had 2 power buttons then in case you already have one drive in and want to insert another drive. Makes no sense. Also inserting the drive is a bit of a struggle. I do not feel confident inserting a drive and there is a lot of back pressure. The front door made of plastic will almost bow out against the resistance when inserting a drive and you have to make sure the drive door catch actually clicks into place. Its just too awkward inserting a drive.

Other Thoughts: I bought these so that I could clone drives and repair the filesystems by just inserting the drives and powering them up in a linux box. 1 of the 2 that I bought doesnt even work. Having to have 2 sata ports per HSB is a big disappointment. I will be taking these out of my linux box and returning them for sure. I can see the catch probably breaking on the bay door in no time because its so flimsy. These drive bays are not worth the time and money.

1 out of 5 eggsFour pieces of junk

Pros: It has two slots, one for 2.5" SSD, the other 3.5" HDD

Cons: I bought total five of these swap cases, only one worked, the other four were all dead on arrival. All of five units have that yellow Chinese sticker: QC/Passed. I do not think the manufacturer has any kind of quality control, however, they stick the lie on their products anyway.

Other Thoughts: The Masscool warranty service is a joke. I once sent two dead units (completely dead in both 2.5” and 3.5” slots) on my own expense for warranty service. It took them more than a month to send me the two replacements which are as dead as the ones that I sent them. I got these dead replacement units only after I called them at least six times (they told me they could not locate the two units I sent back). I am tired of wasting my time and money and threw the dead units into the trash and will use any Masscool products again.

1 out of 5 eggsI would avoid this one...

Pros: It hasn't completely broken yet...

Cons: Well, the 3.5" door barely stays shut with a drive installed (and it needs some convincing to even get it that far). The latch feels like it is about to break at any second.

The 2.5 inch drive is however much more sturdy feeling. That being said, it doesn't make a data connection at all. The drive spins up, then nothing, a few minutes later it spins down.

The whole assembly is not quite as deep as I would have preferred so it doesn't mount very solid in the 5.25" bay. I have tried this on tool-less 5.25" bays as well as screwing into another case of mine. It just doesn't fit properly.

Other Thoughts: The build quality on this is pathetic.

3 out of 5 eggsI'd have paid more for better quality

Pros: Does what it was made to do, once you get any motherboard and Windows issues resolved with hotswapping drives.

Cons: The unit works. I'm transferring about 30 gigs of files as I type this. The biggest issue with this unit is twofold.
1. If you have an Antec, or similar case that uses rails to mount a drive in the 5.25 bays, you will have to either bent the tabs on this unit, or modify it some other way to make it work. The dampening grommets on this unit allow too much movement, and the unit won't stay in place.
2. If this unit had better quality components, it would be worth another $10 for that alone. As it is, baby it, because you WILL be replacing it if you use it very often. Construction leaves a bit to be desired.

Other Thoughts: In my opinion, the manufacturer would have been far better off to construct this so the drives stick out enough to insert and remove them manually. A lot of cheap moving parts could have been dispensed with, and the money put into a more solid, and better fitting(drive bay) construction. Still, I'm glad i bought it, because I needed it, and it does work.

Why 3 eggs? I refuse to give high ratings to cheap products anymore. Yes it works. Until it doesn't, because it's made NOT to last.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: Bought this for my test rig so I can test and clone drives. Works just as advertised. I cannot comment on hot swap as the mainboard I have it on is a little older Asus A8N-SLI.
I have used it for 50 drives of every kind of brand and it has recognized every one.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Newegg Rocks

3 out of 5 eggsWorked well for a short while

Pros: - Makes uses of an extra 5 1/4" bay
- Has both 2.5" & 3.5" bays
- Great for swapping out hard drives on a regular basis
- Power switch to be able to power down the drives when not in use

Cons: - The latch for the 3.5" door is very weak and does not properly stay closed after only a few uses (less than a dozen). The metal that secures the door latch seems to have bent so it no longer holds the latch. While I can bend it back, I don't feel confident in that being a long term fix. With the latch not securing the door properly, I can still get it to work but I have to be very careful as slight movement of the door will cause the drive to disconnect.

Other Thoughts: If they fixed the poor latching 3.5" bay door, I would have given this 5 stars but after fairly minimal use, it's already showing signs of wear.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for what I needed

Pros: - Inexpensive way to have a 3.5" and 2.5" hot swap bay in a single 5.25" space.
- No need for trays. The bays are designed to guide a bare drive into the necessary location.

Cons: - Things are more flexible than I'd like.
- Tray latches can be tricky to open (2.5") and close (3.5").
- On thin 3.5" drives you have to be careful to keep the bottom of the drive on the bottom of the bay or it won't line up the connector properly.

Other Thoughts: If you're used to genuine server hardware this will seem a bit soft but for the occasional swapping of drives for backups or maintenance it is perfect. Will it last forever, probably not, but it isn't too pricey and works as advertised.

I have this in a linux box I use for cloning drives and general maintenance tasks which previously had an external drive enclosure. Now it is all in one box and works fine.
