Description
PL-2303 family chipset for widest possible compatibility. Drivers available for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, and Microsoft signed drivers for 32/64-bit Vista, Windows 7 and Win 8; Mac OS X 8 and later including Snow Leopard 10.6.x; open source drivers included in Linux kernel 2.4.31 and later. Windows 7 automatically detects and guides driver install without disk.

Works with devices with RS-232 serial ports like: other PCs with RS-232 ports, Bluetooth serial adapters, PDAs, GPS recievers, routers, firewalls, modems, printers, embedded character displays, scan tools, sonar units, embedded boards, etc.

This review is from: Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Chipset) Pros: Works with all our Cisco and HP ProCurve networking equipment. No additional drivers required with Windows 7 or higher! Molded usb cable won't fall out. Cons: None yet. Other Thoughts: I used Keyspan usb-to-serial adapters in the past. They worked but the newer models built by tripplite have a loose usb connector so we'd frequently get disconnected by accident. On top of that the Keyspan adapter required additional drivers. This adapter is cheaper, requires no additional windows drivers (though newer drivers are available), and the cable is permanently attached. I was concerned about compatibility but it works just fine with all the Cisco and ProCurve gear I've tried so far. This supposedly contains a real Prolific PL2303HX Rev D Chipset and works with current drivers, unlike the fakes you'd find coming directly from china.
