New microarchitecture, new level of performance

Piledriver microarchitecture, a tuned-up Bulldozer, has finally reached the flagship AMD FX processors (the new FX series processors are codenamed as Vishera) for improved performance and better energy-efficiency. Up to eight “Piledriver” cores ensure unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance. The AMD Turbo Core technology pushes your core frequencies to the most when you need it most. To top it off, like all other AMD’s Black Edition processors, the new AMD FX 8-core Vishera processor black edition is unlocked for fabulous overclocking* capability.  Unrivaled performance is not the only trick AMD has up their sleeve. Vishera processors are at a reasonable price point. (*AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.)

  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

1 out of 5 eggsslow

Pros: cheap

Cons: when running application using 8 threads and 100% CPU it was 3 times slower than intel core i7 running the same application

1 out of 5 eggsGot a dud

Pros: All the features.

Cons: Got a dud. Have to RMA. Newegg doesn't allow refund on CPU.

Other Thoughts: Got the CPU, put it on my motherboard and ran Prime95 right away. After a few seconds workers started to drop and got BSOD. Restarted and done it again, same thing.
Seems like these CPUs are having a lot of issues as it is the second one that I got with the issue at default voltage. And no, it's not the motherboard, my other 8350 works with no issues.

1 out of 5 eggsMaybe I got a bad one

Pros: Pretty easy to install. Good Price

Cons: Maybe I got a bad one, but every time the CPU fan revs up, the system comes to a grinding halt. The mouse won't move, the keyboard won't type. It's like I'm back on Windows 3.4. I can't even express how frustrating this is. I expected so much more and now I just don't know what to do.

1 out of 5 eggsCrashed computer on first day

Pros: Faster than my old CPU

Cons: I just got it today, then I installed it... few hours later while playing Minecraft, the CPU crashed. I think it was due to overheating. Is this normal? I want it replaced/refunded if it is a problem not on my side.

1 out of 5 eggsThe title is false advertisement

Pros: Fast, great, but has a lot of down sides to the product

Cons: Advertised as a "4.2 ghz turbo" which is a lie i don't know if i'll buy amd again. I got the processor a year ago and i started to get some stutter after a year on EVERY game i played which was annoying seeing as i spent 180$ for this. The stuttering was cause by there so called turbo. i manually went in and turned it off and clocked my settings to 4.0 ghz any higher and you will get extreme stuttering and slow down all around.

Other Thoughts: avoid AMD at least this generation at all costs i spent over 3 days trying to fix this lag. good luck :).

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy. READ FORUM POSTS. 11 years AMD going Intel because of this chip.

Pros: Fits inside the slot on my motherboard? I don't really know of any pro's for this chip compared to any other.

Cons: I've heard of stable overclocks on this chip reaching 5.0ghz stable, I've sat here many different days and nights for hours at a time after disappointing FPS when I have time trying to get it to run at 4.4ghz stable. Still get blue screened. On. Every. Game. Even in Google Chrome?

Other Thoughts: I bought this chip for my gaming rig, and have been building computers since I was 13 years old. I am 24 now. First chip I ever bought was an AMD 3000+ to match my Radeon 9800Pro and I stuck with AMD since.

I paired this with a Sabertooth Mobo to overclock stable.

I will now use this chip/mobo setup to stream movies and scroll Facebook on my living room TV and I will be buying a new CPU/MOBO setup. I will explain why below.

After all the problems getting my gaming rig to run BF3 last July on Ultra with a GTX570, OCed to only 4.4GhZ.... because its impossible after 4.4GhZ without getting BSoD, games will not start, computer will crash after 4.4ghz. I have never in my life had this problem with a chip. I absolutely have the knowledge to overclock, FBS overclock ETC. Even without FBS I can't pull it above 4.4ghz. To actually have to read a guide on how to overclock THIS chip is a slap in the face. Hey my AMD 6000+ and my AMD 3000+ were both indestructible, overclocked the living **** out of them, I pulled my AMD 6000+ from 3.2ghz to 4.4ghz for 6 years, cooked both of them in an air cooled case, left them both on for weeks at a time, 100 degree weather outside, sun beating down on my PC through the window, but this chip you sold me has to be the most embarrassing attempt at competing with Intel.

My brother's Intel 2770k being 3 years old runs BF3 Ultra, flawlessly. I have to run my AMD 8350 at Medium, to run it flawlessly? How do you expect me to play Titanfall or Battlefield 4 with this? I can't, I can't even play WoW on Ultra with this, and I don't even want to think about attempting newer games.

I stopped playing BF3 because it was not enjoyable playing on Medium Settings, now looking at getting back into BF4, I won't even buy it until I have my new setup. I know I'm complaining alot, but I have done absolutely everything I can to help this chip.

I play WoW, have for 8 years. My AMD 6000+ Dualcore which is 7 years old puts out ~30FPS on Ultra. Why the HELL is this 8350 putting out 45FPS on Ultra with dips as low as 8FPS? I have reinstalled, I have restarted, overclocked, overclocked, overclocked, overclocked literally over a hundred different times, a hundred different settings. The gains are nil. Why is my brothers 2770k putting out ~130FPS on Ultra with dips no lower than 100FPS SAME EXACT 570, being 3 years older than MY CURRENT CHIP?

I recently viewed over forums about Low FPS issues, and video card bottlenecking issues while gaming with this chip. I came to the conclusion that is IS the chip. And in order to upgrade my 570 to an 870 this year, I have to buy a completely new setup after less than a year of use. I generally have a build for 3-5+ years only because of overclocking, but again, this is a slap in the face.

Beyond angry with blowing $520 on this Chip and a Sabertooth when I could have spent $100 more and bought an Intel 4770k.

I do not care what the benchmarks say, read the forums.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat the heck!

Pros: It works

Cons: New egg sent a different processor? The box is different than the one posted and the label claims it's the black edition. The only thing to tell if this processor is a 8350 a sticker on top. All it says is AMD FX processor (Black edition) which this item doesn't even state unlike the rest. Also, get this... it clocks in a whopping 2.8 GHZ. I've brought from newegg before and never has this happened. I don't understand what the heck went wrong here...

Other Thoughts: Going to start my RMA

1 out of 5 eggsavoid go to intel

Pros: wasting my time, causing my grief and making me angry every time I look at it.

Cons: Seems like this CPU is difficult to get mobo's to work with it. I'm on my 5th mobo 2 cpu's, been to pc repair shops, friends and nothing seems to help. AMD is a horrible product. My Intel pc's work great, this is my first AMD processor/build and I will never use them again.

Other Thoughts: It might be a good CPU but I have yet to find a mobo that supports it. I've try sabertooth, asus killer 990, now ausus M5a99x just to name a few. All of them didn't post and had red CPU light, nothing supports this CPU and I'm on my 2nd one. I bought Asrock mobo because there aren't any bios updates so it was suppose to work with cpu out the gate. And yes I've changed psu, gpu, cpu, ram. Waste of time. I'm about to through 400 dollars and the trash just to stop living this experience, this thing is causing me headaches and uncontrollable anger. I want to take a leak all over it. This was suppose to be a quick, cheap build for gf. Now it's a nightmare thanks for this hellish experience I enjoyed it very little!

1 out of 5 eggsVery Un Happy

Pros: Seems to run most applications find. No lag between windows.

Cons: Since I am a Gamer, I was expecting to get really good fps with the setup I bought. This processor and the gtx 770. However I find myself getting less fps then my intel i5 3.2 (quad core) (first gen) and my Radaon HD6850. ... After have many Problems with FPS.. I started to look into the processor... and man there were so many people having the same problem with these processors. They are not made for gaming.. Amd has just fallen way to far behind Intel.. If I were you, I would not get an AMD FX brand processor.
