  • newegg New Piledriver microarchitecture Piledriver microarchitecture is the second generation of AMD Bulldozer microarchitecture. The internal core structure has been modified for higher frequencies even without any changes in the manufacturing process. Piledriver has a more precise branch predictor and a larger instruction window with ISA extensions FMA3 and F16C. The execution units acquired an enhanced scheduler and learned to process individual instructions faster, such as integer and floating-point division. And Piledriver microarchitecture delivers higher power efficiency compared with Bulldozer microarchitecture.
  • newegg Unlocked AMD FX processor with 8 Piledriver cores The native 8-core desktop processor delivers unrivaled multitasking and pure core performance with the new Piledriver microarchitecture. 32 nanometer die shrink was designed to reduce leakage for improved efficiency, increased clock rate headroom and better thermals. The AMD unlocked technology offers more headroom for your overclocking (AMD’s product warranty does not cover damage caused by overclocking even when overclocking is enabled via AMD Overdrive software.).
  • newegg AMD Turbo technology The AMD FX Processors come equipped with AMD Turbo CORE Technology, a performance boosting technology that helps increase performance on the applications that need it the most.
  • newegg Amazing instruction capabilities Like Bulldozer, Piledriver has some amazing instruction capabilities. Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) increase parallelism tailored for scientific and 3D applications that use heavy floating point calculations. Floating Point Vector Multiply-Accumulate improves throughput and performance on many vector functions (integer and floating point). Advanced Encryption Standard noticeably increases performance on the latest encryption applications like TrueCrypt and benchmarks like PCMark.
  • newegg AMD Hypertransport technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link which helps reduce the number of buses in a system thus reducing system bottlenecks and enabling today's faster microprocessors to use system memory more efficiently in high-end multiprocessor systems.
  • newegg Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology AMD FX Vishera Processor features a high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller that supports faster and low voltage memories and provides new Pre-Fetcher improvements and direct communications to each core in Dual-Core module (APIC registers in each core).

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Very Fast
Easy to install
Box looks nice (Why this is important?)

Cons: The fan that comes with it makes a lot of noise when it is running at full speed.

Other Thoughts: I have took apart and then rebuild and upgraded my computer multiple times, but this is the first time I built my own computer entirely by myself. It boots games like Minecraft in 2-3 seconds, and I have never seen the average CPU usage go above 12%.

5 out of 5 eggsPOWER! For a poor man haha

Pros: Ok! So I bought the 8320 because the 8350 was noticeably more expensive and I was on a budget. I overclocked this to the 8350's standard clock (4.0ghz) and set everything up to the specs of the 8350. The temp never comes close to 50 degrees C even with the stock fan. I have Pro tools so the 8 cores helps process those big mixing sessions! This replaced my Phenom ii T1100 x6 and it is definitely a noticeable difference. Especially in Pro Tools.

Cons: NONE!

4 out of 5 eggsSanity at risk for noisy stock fan

Pros: It is a decent price for a non-tech work type cpu.
8 core multitasking is good
Performance is very decent.
Many options: Undervolt, Overclock, and upgrade routes
You get what you bargain for.
Highly recommend on a sale date, but maybe not if the next generation of CPUs is coming out.
Handles regular games quite well and small programming tasks decent.

This thing slowly tears your sanity, with its stock cooler.
Make sure to turn on CPU fan auto controls if you have them.
I'm looking to replace the stock fan soon, but man does it drive me up the wall especially if the rig is right next to you.

Other Thoughts: If you must use the stock cooler, look into undervolting and placing the rig below your desk.
If none of those are an option, get very sound proof earphones...
I'd wish amd offered some type of bundle for a better stock fan, but that's pushing it a bit.

2 out of 5 eggsOverheats

Pros: Cheap, I order as a bundle with a gigabyte 970 motherboard. Runs games nicely after some processor state % adjusting

Cons: The reason I'm even writing this review is to warn people who buy it that it tends to overheat at 100% processor state. I consistently had it overheating and insta shutting my computer down (crashing). I imagine it is due to the stock fan so I ordered a better one and am hoping to fix the overheating problem. However an easy solution to fix the problem without a cooler is to go into your power options, change plan settings, change advanced power settings, expand processor power management, and lower the maximum processor state. I tried 80% and it lowered the temp big time while playing games. However I just moved it to 95% as I read even that little amount will drop the temp sufficiently to keep it stable. Only problem with that is now I am only getting around 2.9 MHz core speed instead of the unclocked 3.5. Really hoping the new heatsink will let me put it back to 100

Other Thoughts: AMD built a processor that overheats when running 100%. Not overclocked. Dissapointed.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor for the Price3

Pros: Better Performance for games
Better Rendering
8 cores to work with
Turbo boost that boosts to 4.0Ghz when under load

Cons: Runs a little hot

Other Thoughts: Its a great bang for your buck, and all you need is an aftermarket cooler or liquid cooling to keep this CPU at a reasonable temp.

5 out of 5 eggsMajor Horsepower

Pros: Fast, very fast, did I say this is fast?

Cons: It wasn't free?

Other Thoughts: This is my first build for a personal rig in quite a while, and while I have built many multi core rigs for others, This is my first trip to octaland, gotta say I like it. I am astonished at the speed of this processor and it's ability to not get taxed by anything that I am doing. Time will tell as I will be using this to render video in the future, but so far very impressed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat chip

Pros: Sofar the CPU has run like a dream.

Cons: the AMD catalyst game me some issues when I was over clocking but I reinstalled it and it runs fine now

Other Thoughts: for the price I don't think you will get a better CPU

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Processor

Pros: Does what it is supposed to. Hard to beat the performance for what it costs.

Has survived a lot of abuse over the past year, mine was even accidentally ripped out of the motherboard by a large aftermarket heatsink which bent several of the pins. After carefully straightening the pins and reinstalling everything has been fine for months. (If you travel a lot and have a large aftermarket heatsink, I suggest using lock-washers to keep screws from working their way loose over time and ripping out your CPU!)

Cons: FX AMD processors do not run Emulators and older games near as well as Intel due to having weaker per core performance, but like mentioned before it is hard to beat the performance for the price.

Stock cooler can be scary to install, it requires a lot of force on that lever to get it to snap into place. It is also loud if you are running the CPU near 100%. The stock cooler is also a dust magnet and collects a lot of dust every 4-6 months if you don't have filters on your fans. If you keep an eye on your temps you will notice them rise when it is time to clean.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use this for Emulators make sure to research some benchmarks so you know what to expect.
