While the colored lighting is a bit weak the dancing water response to the sound is mesmerizing. My kid (19 year old male) really likes it! Nice for mood music (holiday or other). Worked fine out of the box. Cons: A bit pricey currently, but should come down after the holidays. Other Thoughts: Would recommend as a gift for the techie who has everything. Cons: sound quality is not the best high price Other Thoughts: I figured out how these work. The speakers and the pumps are independent. The speakers play the sound. Then an internal microphone picks up the noise and sets the power to the pump. You don't have to use these to play the music.
