2 out of 5 eggsAbhorently slow

Pros: Multiple cards supported
USB 3.0

Cons: In the middle of a transfer it would just stop transferring data for a couple of minutes. I tried updating the firmware and now it doesn't recognize the card at all.

Other Thoughts: I've had this sitting around for a year or so and just got around to using it. I have a Class 10 SD card. It's fast enough to write several pictures in burst mode on my 24 MP camera. It shouldn't have any problems.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Nicholas,
We apologize for what's happening with the FCR-HS3 card reader. It should be able to transfer files at the speed of the card inserted when connected to a USB 3.0 port, otherwise it would be limited to the cap of USB 2.0 which is roughly 25-30MB/s. There may be something else going on with the reader. Good news is we cover it with a two year warranty and can replace it for you. Please refer to case SR260390 and contact us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT or online: http://www.kingston.com/company/contacts#tech

Thank you for choosing Kingston!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: USB 3
Does the job
Small

Cons: The 3 ft. cord isn't very long

Other Thoughts: Having a 3 ft. cord guarantees the only place to use this for a desktop PC is resting on top of the machine. That's not a problem if your PC is right next to you, or for a laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsWacky

Pros: Read/Write is Fast on USB 3.0 and my "fast" SD cards are not bottle necked by this reader.

Pretty cheap price

Nice build materials

Cons: Causes my entire system to hang when plunged in to my PC.... Sometimes...

Other Thoughts: On day one this Device has been problematic. Mainly causing my entire system to hang. The mouse cursor moment, Audio and Video all hang for about half of a second every few second. This happens over and over and over while this reader is plugged in to ANY USB port on my PC then stops, instantly when I unplug it.

I have no issues what so ever with ANY other USB 2.0/3.0 device on my system regardless what USB controller I am going through. I also have the most updated Chipset & USB drivers for my motherboard and I even tried flashing the newest firmware for the Reader Via Kingston's website.

When the device did randomly work, It was perfect. Basically eliminating any bottleneck I had dealt with on my old USB 2.0 Reader. Easily hitting speeds over 90MB/s R/W on some of my faster micro SD cards.

When contacting Kingston support for a RMA they suggested typical troubleshooting stuff that I already explained I had tried in the support ticket. For such a Cheap device Its not worth the the time spent playing Email Tag or the return shipping cost to RMA this device. So I will likely just go back to using my Old Reader for now since its at least reliable and does not cause my entire system to hang.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Rob,
We apologize for in the inconsistent behavoir experienced with the USb 3.0 card reader. We are here to help and can work with you on the replacement. To avoid any miscommunication or a game of email tag, please call us directly at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT.

Thank you for using Kingston flash products,
-Jewel, Kingsotn US Technical Support

5 out of 5 eggsBest USB hub I ever bought

Pros: I was concerned with the quality being that the majority of these hubs are so cheap so I decided to spend a few more bucks and was hoping it would be worth it which it was. It gets detected immediately as well.

Cons: Everything is fine but I wish the USB cord was a little longer, it is rather short.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line is don't spend 5 bucks on a cheap USB hub, spend more money to get a decent one like this.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works. This time

Pros: Cheap and covers the bases, even Micro SD cards

Cons: None, when they works

Other Thoughts: I had to get a replacement for the first one I got right away. It would cause the system (brand new build) to hang at startup. Once started in Windows 7, I would plug it in and get the top light logo to come on, but the system wouldn't recognize media. Was just an absolute headache. Second one worked perfect the first time and since. I dinged 1 egg due to the problems of the first one, otherwise would be a solid 5 egger.
