5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great drive over all. It easily meets its specs. I use it for a laptop with 16 gigs of RAM and a 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 7. Really what can you say its SSD... If you are used to a 5000 RPM drive then any SSD drive will beat that thing down like a ........ Well lets keep this clean. Any of the Samsung SSD's I have used are good quality. have good tools and work as expected.

Cons: Well only CON I can see is ti is a little tricky to set up if you are using it for a laptop. With most laptops you cant just stick the thing in load in your backup disk with windows and it will work. You have to clone the current drive you have to the new one. This does come with a cloning program. just make sure you follow the instructions. I am used to building servers so thought it was a good idea to format the SSD drive before I cloned it. DONT DO THAT! Keep it factory default my friends =)

Other Thoughts: my other thought and the reason I am writing this. I bought this from new egg in Feb 2014 for $400 and have seen it cheaper. not sure $500 is a deal. these boys are coming down in price. wait for the good deal ;)

5 out of 5 eggsGood SSD, fair price

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, Cost effective, Saves a lot of power

Cons: It's a little tricky to install and configure this thing; the CD with the tools on it isn't up to date and the auto-upgrade hung on my system.

Also, the bundled "Magician" doesn't automatically sense whether the OS's TRIM support is enabled.

The included RAPID mode (DRAM cache) doesn't help performance much in my case, and costs a bunch of RAM. I turned it off.

The software could be more polished, but the disk is fine.

3 out of 5 eggsgood/ decent

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: had this drive for 3-4 months everything works, no issues, it is In my laptop Macbook pro that I use for Dj-ing , It s a decent drive. not as fast as my old crucial 500 gb ssd. Bought it on sale so it was under 400 dollars. If you can get it at a good price then pull the trigger!!

Cons: Macbook pro Boot up in about 20 seconds. When I had a cruical 500 gb SSD it boot up in less then 10 seconds. So this TB drive little slower then the crucial.

5 out of 5 eggs500G & 1TB EVO

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Rapid Mode is great if you have a couple gigs of DRAM to spare. I've just got 8G and with the 1TB drive on an old Intel MB, I'm getting ~2500MB/S on Seq. reads and writes and 50,000+ on random reads and writes.

I'm running a dual-boot W7/Ubuntu 12.04 system on the SSD and they're both amazingly fast now.

Installation was just booting of USB clonezilla and imaging my old drive to the SSD. No problems in either Linux or Windows.

Cons: Ontrac shipping was a con, but that's about it. Nothing about the product. I had one DOA but it was quickly RMA'd.

Other Thoughts: Just a followup on my DOA/RMA/delivery problems from my first review since I guess you can't edit these things.

They've been resolved. I just had Newegg use UPS instead of Ontrac via a phone call. Got the drive a day later.

4 out of 5 eggs500G & 1TB EVO

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've had a 500G EVO in my Dell notebook for ~a year or a bit less. It was easy to install, do a clonezilla of a multi-boot disk to, and setup the TRIM stuff. It is really at least 10x quicker (just 15 second boot or 5 into linux) and I highly recommend the tech.

Cons: I realize this is just luck of the draw, but last week I ordered a 1 TB model EVO and it was DOA, a power connection problem I think, so I RMA's/returned it, got another shipped within ~3 days. Unfortunately, it was lost in transit by ontrac (I think. They are coming out today and I"ll do a better writeup if something is resolved). I filed a missing in action report with Newegg and expect it'll be taken care of with a replacement. They've always been good about everything.

Anyway, I can't fault the technology of the EVO drives. Makes a bigger difference in my system than anything else.

Other Thoughts: I will update this with whatever outcome I get from Newegg pending the lost drive and once the drive I eventually get (same one) is here, I'll update this (if I can).

3 out of 5 eggsSAMSUNG 840 EVO 1TB SSD

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: SAMSUNG 840 EVO SSD'S ARE VERY GOOD UNITS FOR THE PRICE, ESPECIALLY ON A NEWEGG SALE,

Cons: ON SUNDAY I OPENED A SEALED SAMSUNG 840 EVO 1TB SSD BOX. INSIDE WAS THE TYPICAL WARRANTY AND INSTALLATION LITERATURE, AND SOFTWARE CD. PLUS THREE PINK ARCHES IN A PLASTIC BAG. NO M3 SCREWS. NOTHING IN THE LITERATURE EXPLAINED THE USE OF THE PINK PIECES. NOTHING ON SAMSUNG WEBSITE WAS OF ANY USE.
MONDAY TALKED TO LIVE PERSON! NO HELP. IT WAS SEAGATE. THEY WERE BOUGHT OUT BY SAMSUNG. GIVEN PH# FOR SSD'S HELP LINE. INDIVIDUAL HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PART. SHOWED NO INTEREST IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. HIS ANSWER: GET SOME M3 SCREWS. TELECON WAS TERMINATED.
MINUS ONE EGG FOR QUALITY CONTROL.
MINUS ONE EGG FOR LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM.

4 out of 5 eggs1tb SSD

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Ordered with 3.5" mount... Easy Install and big speed improvement noted!

Cons: The Samsung Data migration program (updated version) had a defrag error and would not work. I used Acronis clone tool to transfer boot hardfile image to the SSD without any problems.

Other Thoughts: Total time to install was about 3 hours including clone of about 500gb.

1 out of 5 eggsRead Speed Bug in Drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE1T0BW 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Really fast at first, lots of SSD space

Cons: There's an issue or something in the drive, hopefully in firmware that causes old files to be super slow (under 50MB/s). If you check out either reddit or the overclock.net forums, they are documenting the issue. Until Samsung releases a fix, DO NOT buy this drive.
