5 out of 5 eggs840 EVO mSATA 500G Rock as the Boot Drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO mSATA 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-MTE500BW

Pros: This is the first SSD I started using in my Lenovo laptop for booting. (I had one before for data caching). I love it. I no longer use the sleep or hibernate, because I can shutdown and boot-up in the same time frame. That alone on Windows is a big help.

I choose mSATA SSD because I wanted to leave the original HDD for backup/general data. In the Lenovo, it was extremely simple to setup and do the switch. In my laptop I have plenty of space with 500G SSD and 320 HDD. My understanding is that SSD have better life if they have room to move data around. Using the original HDD, might be overkill as even with some Steam games, music and work the 320G was only 50% full.

Cons: If I recall correctly, this mSATA didn't come with the mSATA screws. I am not sure what I figured out, but one or two screws would be nice.

Other Thoughts: Next time I get a SSD, I will probably choose the 1TB option, why not, right? I also have been tinkering with linux (Mint and elementaryOS) and plan to dual boot. I don't actually know, this is just future ideas.

I used the Samsung EVO 2.5 SSD at work (two actually) after using this one. Surprisingly, I had a lot of issues with those two devices. Anyhow, the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA rocks!

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best- FYI the people who rated this bad have no clue-look at what they wrote

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO mSATA 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-MTE500BW

Pros: The fastest most reliable drive in its class currently. (of course sum1 will invent better) This absolutely dominates over any ocz, corsair(w/newer chip) or intel drive ive come across, in every way.
Almost had this a year, and i BEAT on this thing. dual booting win 7/8.1 inside a custom MSI MS-1757 Barebones Notebook running multiple vm's, I leave it on night and day 365. and it crushes every time ask it to.
Never a blue screen, a glitch, I've never seen even an -inkling- of ANY issue with this, NEVER any inconsistent behavior. Its as fast as the day i got it, and installed the OS's.

Cons: Unfortunately i didn't purchase it here, surprising amzn had it much less expensive, that's why this review isn't verified, but you can check it over on their site(this review, and see that its verified)
Seriously, WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO NEWEGGS PRICING???
They used to be the JAM! Bait n Switch? Greedy Managment?
Its too bad, because theyre going to lose a lot of loyal customers...
Sorry newegg! But youre getting greedy..

Other Thoughts: CONCLUSION: What made me write this is the bad reviews i saw here. (read my background below)
The bad reviews from this drive here on newegg are as follows:
1. guy #1 gave this one star because he didnt get the cheap little adaptor? Really? Total noob incompetent! Maybe should've got the correct mobo?Or read more about its specs b4 buying?
2 . bad review guy #2 states he got a "stutter", and a "hang" with no support(explanation) on why or how that this issue is the ssd's fault.. His one stutter that day, or "hang" could have been one of a THOUSAND things! Thats NOOB TALK! He hasnt a clue.
3 Bad review guy #3 is my favorite.. Just GENIUS! and i quote "my computer guy try to copy my system's data to this ssd, but crashed with no reason. just totally crashed in the end"
Warning: if the reviewer states he has a *computer guy, you may not want his "Expertise".. lol and what he says makes no sense in my language at least.Probably wanted a refund to buy the newest mw3 or something

I've been building-repairing pc's mobile devices & macs since 1994. I repair motherboards with new bios chips, build custom laptops, even intricate, micro soldering on mobile device mother/daughter-boards as well as computer motherboards. I know about as much as you can about hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome customer service

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO mSATA 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-MTE500BW

Pros: Samsung has really good reputation and the ssd drives are awesome.
I returned this ssd drive because I ordered a laptop and that said in the specs it had a space for a mseta drive.
in fact it had a reg 2.5 seta drive .
I didn't even open the box for the mseta drive and did the return online and it charged me 25 percent fee for return.
I contacted customer service and they took care of the fee.
thank you Ed T

1 out of 5 eggs840 EVO MZ-MTE500BW studder issues

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO mSATA 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-MTE500BW

Pros: Initially fast

Cons: Seems to stutter, hangs, then gets going again, started around 4 to 5 months of use as partitioned windows 8 OS & data drive. Getting pretty bad now, mostly unusable if you trying to get any real work done.

Other Thoughts: Samsung as acknowledged issues with the 840 evo's - bit still no fix. Shame on NewEgg for no RMA - with acknowledged issues.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive!

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO mSATA 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-MTE500BW

Pros: The very low power consumption, the great price, and connection types and storage choices got my attention with Samsung SSDs.
At a fraction of the power over the other brands, with equal or better performance. I had to give these a shot. I got a SATA 500GB SSD as well as one of these mSATA and the both have been as perfect as you can imagine!

Unlike other brand SSD, my SATA worked in many different enclosures without any problems. USB 2 and 3. I throw this out there because other brand doesn't care and if you had to deal with them because the drive you got didn't perform like a SSD should (2+ minute reboot times) then this bit of information is important to you.

The Samsung SATA I got replaced other brand (The 2+ minute reboot time 512GB SSD) and the Samsung fixed all issues and ran beautifully! I'm back to under 20 seconds now.

The mSATA I gambled on because I never used one before. I'm tickled to say it was just as beautiful and it as well fixed all the problems other brand (When I bought the 512GB SSDs from other brand, I got 2 of them and both were horrible)

If you've played with SSD drives and know you need Windows 7 or above (No Tweaking Required unlike previous OS) and you know about putting it in AHCI mode and you know how to use the search engine to get help if you need it, then you shouldn't have any problems with this brand. (User Errors and Computer Guy errors, maybe, but the drives gave me no problems.)

Cons: For this mSATA, I have no complaints. Laptop manufacturers should include a screw for when you use this slot, but they don't always do that. So I understand those that didn't have a screw handy, finding that to be a con. I had a screw and didn't need one. (I'm one of the lucky ones, I know!)

For the SATA version, there is a lot of wasted space in the case! I seen one of these taken apart on the net and They could easily fit 3 maybe even 4 TB worth of chips in the same little case.

I look forward to seeing 4TB SSD drives!

Other Thoughts: AHCI mode needs enabled. (If you forget about this, like I almost did, then this tip is for you.)

If you clear your BIOS (Accident or on purpose) then you may need to disconnect this drive to get into BIOS and re-enable AHCI. My motherboard thought a nice little button in the back would be a convenience so you didn't have to remove battery, play with jumper, etc. to clear the bios! And when I was trying to plug in my Fiber Optic cable and thought that little button was the hole it was suppose to plug into! It took me a half hour to trouble shoot my "Opps!" and get back up and running!

If you got stuck with a horrible drive (And you know this because you've tested them (Because you got more than one when they were on sale, and the issues happen in more than three different machines and a bunch of other brand SSD drives don't have said issues) and need a REAL SSD drive to impress you.

This should do it. (I'm saying this after using 3 different brands in my HTPC and all were SATA connections. The laptop that took this mSATA is a first in using an mSATA and it just worked as great as the SATA. Just smaller and leaving the SATA bay for another SSD.)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO mSATA 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-MTE500BW

Pros: Boosts boot time from minutes to seconds. Big enough for a straight clone without having to worry about transferring entertainment data.

Cons: A little pricey.

Other Thoughts: Was able to clone my 5400 laptop spinning disk without any problems. Laptop will load from this drive, but requires booting from boot menu (F12) every time. Not sure whats going on there. I changed the boot order in BIOS but still seems to want to boot from the old disk and blue screens if I don't hit F12 fast enough.. Not this drives fault. Just thought I'd throw that out there incase other people encounter and panic.
