1 out of 5 eggsdo not buy

Pros: fast, while it worked...

Cons: as several others have posted, drive died after 1 year, random BSODs, not recognized in bios. Crucial came up with every excuse not to RMA, finally just gave up and purchased the g.skill phoenix (which im quite happy with). This will be the last crucial product I ever buy and will make sure none of my friends ever purchase something of such low quality. Even tried the firmware update in hopes of being able to use it again, but no luck.

5 out of 5 eggsRAID 10 Amazing

Pros: Incredibly fast, I have 4 of these in a RAID 10 with win7 and a few games like BF3, Team Fortress 2 etc. I am almost always the 1st player to load the maps and be ready for a new round

Cons: after almost 1 and a half years 1 out of 4 drives is starting to behave oddly. I'll be playing a game and the system will temporarily freeze. It comes up and the same drive every time has been knocked out of sync. I've recovered it a few times already and it will last a week or two at a time.

When I lose 1 drive, my experience isn't hampered. I would definitely recommend settings these up in a RAID configuration with a backup drive to recover your windows Image... but they load so fast that even if they do crash and burn, you'll be up and running in no time.

Other Thoughts: I ordered 2 more drives as they are reliable and blazing fast. I'm not giving up because of 25% failure after well over a year.

when I received the new drives, 1 will replace the dead drive and the other will become a backup drive in case any others fail.

2 out of 5 eggsThought it was a good idea

Pros: Fast enough over a mechanical drive, just don't do a lot to it so you don't use up your access time till termination on it. They have a shelf life!

Cons: I had no idea that I'd be looking for a replacement in just over a year or I'd have bought a mechanical SATA drive instead. The past month or so the system has been freezing and the BIOS forgets that this drive is even there until I tell it. All the tech I've been researching has all pointed to a failing SSD. I see another reviewer mentioning a con for firmware from Crucial, that's too bad. I bought this in Feb or 2012 and it's dying in May of 2013. What a waste of money this was. I bought it for a good price but hindsight says it was too much now.

Other Thoughts: Looking for a mechanical SATA drive to clone the SSD to before it gives up the ghost and becomes an expensive paperweight. I found a firmware update and I'm going to try it before I give up, hoping that it extends the life of it or just uses up my time.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best SSD period

Pros: First SSD I have ever owned that gives you the actual advertised sequential read and write speeds. No bothering with countless firmware updates like other brands. I got 3 of these after purchasing 3 OCZ SSd's and exchanged the OCZ SSD's twice because we were literally getting over 200mbs less than the advertised speeds. I'm a pro modder/PC expert so there was issues with it being setup correctly. Been running 2 64gig Crucials in RAID0 for over two years now and a 256G Crucial for Steam games and never had an issue. I'm getting 1012.67 mbs sequential read and 206.23 mbs write. Sure the new OCZ vertex 4 is faster but the Crucial series have been great from the launch.

Cons: There are no cons when it comes to Crucial SSD's

Other Thoughts: Crucial is by far the best bang for the buck no matter how you stack it. The proof is in the benchmarks. Be careful on buying other brands who falsely advertise their sequential read and write speeds by saying it gets up to this or that. In my opinion it either gets 400 mbs read or it doesn't. I could see if it were close to within 50 mbs when advertising reads and writes since each motherboard and processor plays a role in what you score in ASSSD or cyrstal disk but anything over 100 mbs difference is just deceiving your customer base.

3 out of 5 eggsOpposite of a baby

Pros: Fast and decent sized but pretty mediocre on stats/size.

Cons: 9 months has passed and the drive is dying/dead. Pretty disappointing actually. Since this is the 2nd SSD that's been replaced on my boss's computer you can imagine his feelings. I'm sure when we buy another one the problems will go away.

5 out of 5 eggsIt is reliable

Pros: Very reliable and quick as well

Cons: None, but update the firmware!

Other Thoughts: I've been reading a lot of negative comments about this SSD failing after about a year of use. I experienced the exact same thing recently.

It ran great for a year, never an issue. After a year it failed after about an hour of use with a blue screen error code: 0x00F4, and it was unable to create crash mini dump files. After rebooting the drive was unrecognizable and would not show up in the bios. Restarted again and it would magically be recognized and boot...but only to fail after about an hour of use. This issue kept repeating over and over.

Found out that people updated the firmware and that it took care of this issue. I then updated my firmware and yes, it fixed it. Haven't had an issue since and it seems to be working a bit faster/more efficient.

Update your firmware before throwing this SSD away. Here's the link for the firmware and select "Crucial M4 2.5" SSD"

2 out of 5 eggsUnresponsive

Pros: These drives were working great until...

Cons: Drives became unresponsive. System will run for just over an hour and drive would disappear and system would become unresponsive. Unable to find any diagnostic errors with drive so replaced MB, Cables, Power supply. Issue seemed to follow drives.

Other Thoughts: Once we replaced these drives system is working properly again. Weird issue. Would like a way to actually detect a problem more reliably.

5 out of 5 eggsHeck ya!

Pros: Fast
Cheap
Easy to install

Cons: Cheap but not cheap enough I guess?

Other Thoughts: Windows 7 booted quite fast. I think less than 20 seconds, but Windows 8 is silly and does not boot as fast as I expected, but I suspect it is my fault, not Windows 8

5 out of 5 eggsFAST and RELIABLE

Pros: Win 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. Running a Biostar MB using 2 SATA 6GB/sec ports with an i7-2600K CPU.

I'm actually running RAID 0 even though the performance increase isn't groundbreaking over just no RAID at all, as far as I read anyways.

I can get to the Windows desktop in 9 seconds from the moment the SSD drives are actually being read.

Upon getting into Windows, I can immediately launch my browser and start going all over the internet instantaneously. Launching Microsoft Word 2010 or Excel is instantaneous. It's like opening Notepad. Fast as the hot place where bad people get sent to.

Hasn't failed yet after 8 months. Haven't had any boot issues and haven't had any slowness issues. Did I mention FRIGGEN FAST?

But then again, I did a fresh install of Windows 7, as opposed to attempting to transfer junk over from an existing hard drive. Plus, I don't install junk like most clowns.

Cons: Umm, they aren't bigger in size, magically?

Other Thoughts: I'm gonna get a larger SSD drive and get away from RAID 0 so I can use my 6GB/sec 500GB 10k Raptor drive.
