3 out of 5 eggsGood Performance, Low Durability

Pros: This drive, as do most SSDs gives great performance. My boot-up time was cut in half.

Cons: I purchased this 512GB SSD on 15 March 2013. I installed it on 3 April 2013. The drive failed 20 May 2014. No longer boots.

Other Thoughts: After I fully installed the new replacement HDD, I tried to use the Transfer utility thinking it would refresh the SSD and make it bootable again. But, I get nothing but errors.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful

Pros: Bought in for Dell Insprion 11 touchscreen, it came, went into laptop well. Performs sooo much better than prior 2gb factory installed. Played very nice with bios and win 8.

Cons: There were none, and continue to be none

Other Thoughts: Just great

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: Installed this drive in a Dell Inspirion 11 touch screen, wow what a difference. Fit well in enclosure, replaced factory drive well. Played very nice with bios and re-installation software ( win 8, could not mirror from prior factory drive easily due to capacity difference, easy fix though, dell sent software, win 8 and drivers for free. Ran windows update, for the usual amount of times.... 8-10.. for a new system, runs great)

Cons: Packaging seemed a little light, but it worked, arrived in good condition.

Other Thoughts: Not sure why duh-ell isn't putting these things in the computers to start with, they just work so much better that HDD's, they use less power. Oh well.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to original review of 8/10/2012

Pros: VERY fast; MacBook Pro booted in 15 sec under Mountain Lion; now with Mavericks, about 10 sec. All operations are fast and fluid. Heavy Photoshop work and related are quick. Installation and data transfer were uneventful. See Other Thoughts.

Cons: Bad experience on purchase in 2012 (see review of 8/10/2012) but replacement SSD performed as it should. At present a subtle system flakiness (mysterious "Disk Removed Improperly" warnings in OSX, although all disks internal and external remain connected and mounted) has shown up. Investigation continues. See Other Thoughts.

Other Thoughts: This SSD has been great. Newegg and Crucial have responded without delay, both at purchase time, and at present with the flakiness that has shown up. Crucial's diagnosis is that the Mac, with "Stop Hard Disks When Possible" checked, is not completing its "garbage collection". I am following instructions to do power cycles and let a long run with no data I/O permit garbage collection to complete. I write this review in good faith -- will add an additional comment only if this maintenance leaves the problem unchanged.

I see in the comment policies that my discussion here may verge on what is discouraged, but I think it appropriate to note this: if the "garbage collection" is as important to disk maintenance in this case as it now seems to be, it is disappointing that Crucial and perhaps Newegg did not provide more documentation, in particular for Mac owners. Although that said, and having received detailed advice on how to proceed and on how to maintain the disk in good condition going forward, I can only compliment both Crucial and Newegg for their help and prompt communications.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed on first use

Pros: It's probably fast. The benchmarks say it's fast.

Cons: I connected it to a PC using the included Apricorn USB/SATA adapter. Everything seemed fine, until about 15 minutes into the copy it failed with write errors. The drive was burning hot, well over 120 degrees.

After disconnecting and reconnecting the drive, Windows would no longer recognize it. Another similar USB/SATA adapter didn't work either.

Now, when I plug the drive into the Apricon adapter, it emits a faint squeaking sound. So it's possible the Apricorn adapter destroyed the drive.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, I purchased this drive while living in China and it didn't get to me for a while, so I can't return it. Hope I can get a Certificate of Appreciation for making such a generous donation to Crucial.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: To those complaining about your crucial ssd dieing. Update the firmware. There is a bug that causes it to fail after a certain amount of boot ups.

While this should not be a problem it is, but after using 4 different manufacturers and multiple ssd's from each, Crucial is by far the fastest and most stable other than the shipping with broken firmware.

Cons: the broken firmware

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 3 months

Pros: Easy to install, quick, quality brand.

Cons: Drive completely died, doesn't even get recognized by computer as being plugged in. Plugged into other PC's, the same story. Unfortunately I lost all my data going back 3 months. One idea of SSD is reliability...no moving parts so the drive doesn't crash. I guess that is no longer a viable selling feature since this drive just flat out died!! Really angry...will not by crucial again, will stick with Vertex and Samsung both of which have been flawless for me for years of use.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome upgrade!

Pros: Easy installation. Super fast boot times. My MacBook Pro boots in about 8-10 seconds from a cold boot. I also added a 16GB RAM upgrade from Crucial. My laptop flys through every task. VMs in Parallels Desktop are a lot faster. Photoshop launches blazing fast. Everything runs super fast. I highly recommend this upgrade.

Cons: None. This SSD has been great!

Other Thoughts: For reference, the MacBook Pro that I installed this SSD into is a late 2011 MacBook Pro, 2.2GHz quad-core i7. It was very fast and capable before this upgrade, but after, it was like having a whole new computer. Adding the SSD and the 16GB RAM upgrade mean that I can hold onto this system much longer, and get a much beter resale value.

3 out of 5 eggsdead

Pros: fast for a boot drive, load my OS very fast. Loved when it worked.

Cons: star crashing on me, after running great for almost two months, unable to recover win 7 or re install OS. error oxcoooo225 the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Other Thoughts: after troubleshooting with crucial tech support for two days they send me a RMA and UPS label to return for a replacement. Will see when I get the new drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: The transfer kit was simple and worked great. No problem swapping out the drives. Very fast, 7.4 on windows 7 index (I know, that doesn't always mean much!). The software came with the next version up, didn't have to download the latest. That Cd/DVD was bootable and ran fine from there.

Cons: so far, none. I could wish for a mounting bracket for a 3.5 slot. That is all that was missing and I had an extra one.

Other Thoughts: I7 950, Asus saber-tooth, 12 gig ram - a pretty fast rig that includes 2 sata 2TB drives as well. I do video editing and need the storage!
