1 out of 5 eggsWorst SSD ever

Pros: I did not find any good about this SSD, died after 4 mos., all data was lost since any computer I tried to use couldn't even see the drive

Cons: Died easily

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer beware!

Pros: At the time I bought the drive, it was reasonably priced. However, the price has crept up since then. And the price was the only pro, unfortunately.

Cons: Slow performance, especially right before it died on me. Even when the drive was healthy, performance was sub-par. Anandtech reviewed the drive and came away highly unimpressed. Flashing the firmware to a newer version helped for about 2 weeks. However, performance was rather abysmal. It's not Crucial's NAND that was at fault, it was their [BAD] choice with picking a bad [imho] controller.

Other Thoughts: This is a followup review. I posted one about this drive way back last September, 2012 when I first received it.
Now that the v4 has been discontinued, I urge you all to stay away from this one. This could have been a good drive had they chosen another company for their drive controller. So now, this drive will become a paperweight and I will replace it with a Plextor.

1 out of 5 eggsNot long for this world

Pros: Was fast.

Cons: Started having problems after 4 months. Had to restore to previous backup. It failed after 6 months. Upon the last boot, the system gave the warning - "Hard Disk Failure is Eminent - Please Backup Your Drive and Have it Replaced!". Unfortunately the drive failed during boot and the only way to even post now is to remove the drive.

Other Thoughts: I was very happy until the drive started having problems.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Satisified With Four Crucial M4 SSDs

Pros: After reading a lot of reviews and customer comment sections on the Web, I decided to go with a Crucial SSD because of their reputation for quality and reliability. I purchased my first one about 14 months ago and was so satisfied that I have since purchased three more. I own two 128 gig and two 256 gig Crucial SSDs (in four computers).

I benchmarked all four of them using CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD software and all four met or exceeded their advertised specifications.

Some are concerned with reports that SSDs slow down with usage. When I receive a new SSD, I benchmark it that day and keep the results for future comparison. The original 128 gig Crucial SSD I purchased is now 14 months old and still benchmarks the same as the first day I received it. So no problems to report in that area. Additionally, the app SSDlife-free is still reporting the condition of my original 128 gig as 100%.

As with any product, some will experience problems -- but I have had zero issues so far. The original drive came with an earlier firmware version. I phoned Crucial and their excellent customer department service guided me through the update process on their Website (which was very easy and took only a couple of minutes). The other three came with the latest firmware already installed.

With my first Crucial SSD, I purchased their cloning kit which came (at the time) with a USB 2.0 to SATA cable. Not long ago I phoned Crucial to see if they now had a USB 3.0 version avaliable. They did and were nice enough to FedEx me one for only $10.00 freight paid, no tax.

So...the bottom line, for me, is: as the owner of four Crucial SSDs -- one for 14 months, one for a year, and two for six months -- I have experienced no issues whatsoever. Highly recommended.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I have just begun purchasing from Newegg and so far their service (speed of delivery) has exceeded other Websites from which I have previously ordered.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time and money

Pros: Good concept, guaranteed reliability in SATAII based systems. I bought 6 at a good price to upgrade Optiplex 980's with perfectly good i5's and reliable chassis.

Cons: NONE of them worked out, I'm replacing the last one today with an OCZ Vertex 4. The poor, VERY poor, performance from NIB to fresh image to deployment was variable. Some drives made it in to production (briefly), some I had to pull before deploying and image to different drives. I have MANY (>75) SSD's in production, these are the only units that have really ticked me off.

Other Thoughts: Crucial let me down on this one, I'll likely not buy any more M4's either, since competing products work well.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Solid State On the market

Pros: Solid State Concept

Cons: The firmware that came with this drive does not work. The speeds that this drive gets are similar to a standard 7200rpm hard drive. With this drive I've experienced lock-ups, poor performance, poorer performance than standard hdd drives.
I've flashed the firmware on it 2 times with the released version from crucial(no difference), and the beta version that I found on the forms(brought the performance up to standard HDD drive). If you are looking for an ssd stay stay STAY!!! away from this drive.

Other Thoughts: I'm not normally one to write a review, and even if something doesn't work, I'm normally one not to post a flame about it, but this drive is so bad, that You get to read my 2 cents. Thanks for your time reading.

1 out of 5 eggsVery slow and unstable

Pros: well it was at the right price point. scored 6.9 on performance index?

Cons: Well installed this on a new machine. configured it properly AHCI and TRIM no page filing or indexing enabled. no dice slow laggy unstable to say the least..

Other Thoughts: checking the crucial forums there many more out there with the same problem.. going with OCZ next if there isn't any resolution for my problems

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible, just terrible...

Pros: None...

Cons: Crucial, you make 2 products, RAM and Drives, how hard is it to send out something decent? This drive ABSOLUTELY SUCKS! We bought 4 of these drives to test in our developer pc's and let me tell you I am very disappointed...

Windows is unstable on every PC, (If you can even get it to boot).
Installation of files is excruciatingly slow.
The stock Seagate 250GB drive that comes with the 980's we deployed are MUCH faster and more reliable.

Thanks Crucial for making me look dumb having my company order these hoping for better production. Waste of 400$.
