Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD3 256GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

  • 256GB
  • Mini-SATA (mSATA)
ICON Loading...

The Crucial m4 mSATA SSD delivers all of the award-winning performance and reliability of the Crucial m4 SSD – in a drive that’s an eighth of the size. It enables blazing fast system boot up and program launch on mSATA equipped desktop or laptop computers.

  • newegg Award-winning performance. Tiny form factor. Measuring in at about one-third the size of a standard business card (3cm x 5cm), the Crucial m4 mSATA is designed primarily for ultrathin laptop users who want to dramatically increase their system's performance. Featuring the same advanced controller technology, Micron custom firmware and high-speed synchronous MLC NAND that have made the Crucial m4 SSD a mainstay on the market, the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD is engineered to deliver the same blazing-fast performance as the award-winning 2.5-inch SSD – in a smaller mSATA form factor.
  • newegg Ultrathin form factor means flexibility. Because of its tiny mSATA form factor, the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD can do things that hard drives and other SSDs often can't. With the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD, save valuable system space by mounting it directly to the mSATA socket on your motherboard – and free up a hard drive bay in the process. Or just keep your existing hard drive and use the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD as a cache to accelerate the system's performance. Validated for Intel Smart Response Technology and NVELO Dataplex caching software, it's designed to work as a cache or as a standalone SSD for ultrathin laptops. No matter how you use the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD, experience high-performance storage in a tiny, low-power package.
  • newegg Consistently fast speeds. No exceptions and no fine print. There's a reason that Crucial SSDs have garnered numerous international awards – they do what they're supposed to do. No matter what kind of files you're working with on a Crucial SSD, you'll experience high speeds with no drop in performance. Unlike other SSDs on the market, Crucial SSDs treat all files the same, regardless of whether they're compressed or uncompressed. This is important because the files most people use everyday – videos, mp3s, advanced graphics files and zip files – are compressed files and thus unable to be compressed any further. While many SSDs on the market achieve faster speeds by using file compression, many of the most common file types can't be compressed, resulting in SSDs that often deliver drastically slower speeds than originally advertised. With the advanced technology of a Crucial SSD, however, the advertised speeds are tied to real world use.
  • newegg Crucial - quality you can depend on. Crucial is a trusted name when it comes to SSDs, and that's no coincidence. As a brand of Micron, one of the world's leading manufacturers of SSDs, Crucial engineers work tirelessly to design, refine, and support a powerful line of SSDs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Hack's

Pros: Using in my Gigabyte Z77 Hackintosh.... Super fast Boot's in 3.7 sec cold boot, restore boot under 2....

Cons: Worked for a week to boot direct from it and can't make it work... So have a 1 gig USB as my bootloader, and this work around is just fine.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not any!

Cons: My pc will not recognize the drive. Have tried it on other machines. Contacted Crucial support. Tried their solutions but did not help. Contacted them again and got the run around. Paid a lot for this and it is DOA.

1 out of 5 eggsIt was AWESOME... for 4 months...

Pros: Never had a problem with it until now. It was blazing fast!

Cons: It lasted a few months!

Other Thoughts: I was using my laptop and suddenly noticed that I couldn't open any programs. About 5 minutes ago it had booted without a hitch and now it isn't even detected in the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsRemarkable Drive.

Pros: Fastest drive I've ever seen, and mSata means I can keep using the 1tb platter drive for storage on my laptop. Absolutely love this drive

Cons: None. Would love for it to be cheaper, but that's true of everything.

Other Thoughts: It amazes me that there aren't more high end laptops with quality spacious SSD's like this.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning for 4 months with no problems

Pros: I installed this drive on a Samsung Series 9 Windows 7 Pro laptop about 4 months ago. There were no problems whatsoever during installation and the drive has been running flawlessly. I didn't benchmark the drive, but performance is obviously much better than a HDD, with Windows starting in just a few seconds.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks very well

Pros: *Got it on a great New Egg Deal
*Seems to operate at the max of the PCI-E 1.0 slot the Msata -> PCIe adapter from MacSales can function (which is about 250MB/s-300MB/s
*Firmware is produced for these Msata M4 units but this one already had the latest on it
*No hickups so far

Cons: *Longevity is always an unknown

1 out of 5 eggsWill not boot

Pros: It does work with newer normally used devices...

Cons: With the ASUS EEE SLATE EP2121 it will not boot at all, sometimes it does then it does not. I worked with crucial support and even purchased another 256msata and the second one performed the same way. Crucial also RMA one of them and said they would repair it, only to send me back the very same problem. It will not boot up in an ASUS EEE SLATE EP121 at all.

Other Thoughts: I am not sure if it is the ASUS EEE SLATE EP121 but I have the stock sandisk and it boots great 64GB. I just wanted 256GB instead of the standard 64GB.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and works

Pros: Installation: They included screws, which is unusual for a product like this, and a nice convenient touch.
Speed: I wasn't able to get my OS transferred to this drive, so I can't speak to that, but I was able to get some of the programs I want to see load up faster moved to it. The Adobe suite loads in seconds. PHPStorm loads in seconds (It takes over a minute to start installed on my hard drive). My games load in seconds.
Reliability: Wasn't DOA, and didn't find any bad storage blocks when formatting it.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Couldn't get the OS moved over to it without downgrading from EFI to legacy boot, so I haven't bothered yet. That's really a problem with Windows 8 OEM installs, not this unit. Eventually I might try it and will update here if and when I do.

5 out of 5 eggsJust wow...

Pros: Bought my first laptop that supports mSATA, a Lenovo Y500, and let me tell you something...
Great amount of storage for my needs (and most people's needs)
Reduced weight to laptop by being able to remove laptop HDD
Increased Battery life
MOST IMPORTANTLY: My computer boots, to the homescreen, in 12 SECONDS.
Always go SSD.

Cons: Absolutely no cons here

Other Thoughts: None
