1 out of 5 eggsFool me twice, shame on me

Pros: Nice looking

Cons: Customer support and durability

Other Thoughts: I to loved ther design of this unit, but after the second unit I purchased started to fail, I have become disenchanted with the pretty face. It mysteriously stopped working in two (not one, two) separate desktop PCs when plugged into the front USB Port at exactly the same time. Worked when I contorted and plugged it in to the rear port, but not the front. Less power in the front was the issue, according to tech support and so no warranty. Why did it work for 6 months and then stop. Sounds like weak and failing components, not a PC issue. I won't make this mistake again.

3 out of 5 eggsWas nice while it lasted...

Pros: This little guy stayed on my key chain for a good half year without any issues of scratching on the gold contacts while inside my jean pockets at work. The compact size and key like shape was amazing for having it with you but not having it become annoyingly in the way like other bulky flash drives that get attached to key chains.

Cons: The plastic cap got lost rather fast, but that was to be expected. What really upset me is how fragile the device was, even when it was standalone on a separate little ring without any weight applied. Mine met its unfortunate end when I went to plug it into a front facing USB port on one of our lab PCs at work. A little bit of sweat caused my thumb and index finger to slip forward during insertion and I heard a small *snap* as the PC rebooted instantly. Apparently, my fingers slipped on the smooth metal surface and got too close to the slim gold contacts end and shocked it to death. After the lab machine rebooted, I attempted to see if it would detect, but got nothing from either that or another working machine. It died 6 months into its life from being an otherwise wondrous Christmas gift.

Other Thoughts: I would love to get this drive again, but fear having this happen over again. If the design either had some rubber grip bits at the handling end or was a slight bit thicker and utilized a full sized USB end, then I would gladly buy another.

2 out of 5 eggsDead in a year

Pros: Look sturdy, convenient to carry, never physically damaged by keys on the keychain. fast read.

Cons: Bad for the front USB ports of desktop computers. It cannot be used hanging with heavy keys. Completely dead in less than a year.

Other Thoughts: We bought two. One is still working well. I hope it keeps working.
Sadly, I cannot send it for warranty because of sensitive data in it.

3 out of 5 eggsBusted

Pros: Love the design. Had it on my key ring for a year. Used it weekly for off-site backups.

Cons: Busted after a year. Dead, DOA. Can't reformat, nothing.

Other Thoughts: Love the convenience but needs to be rugged. I see lots of these going DOA. That ain't cool.

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

Pros: Finally have a flash drive most people won't notice. Blazing fast transfer speeds. Can finally carry around a flash drive and know it's always there.

Cons: None yet, I'm just wondering what time will do to the usb contacts after being around keys.

Other Thoughts: Even with the weight of 10 other keys and a car remote, PC still picks it up without a hitch. I've got it on its' own seperate ring and can quickly remove it from the mountain climbing clip, because I'm not willing to test the weight factor more than 2x. Couldn't tell you how many flash drives I've gone through, either by losing them by cheap plastic breaking and falling off lanyard/keychain or sheer dumb luck. Now I can't drive home without it.

1 out of 5 eggsHope you don't actually want to use it on a key chain!

Pros: Reasonably fast. Fits nicely on a keychain. Construction seems rather sturdy.

Cons: In many circumstances, you can't use this drive on a keychain; there is no outer housing on the contacts of the drive, and because of this, the weight of your keys tilts the drive downward so that the contacts on the drive don't touch the contacts on the USB port. How nice. This might not be an issue for use with laptops, where your keys will usually be resting on a surface not far below the USB port, but for ports on a standard PC case, you will often be out of luck. This is a fatal flaw. Why the heck would LaCie design a product that is specifically designed to fit on keychains, yet not work when used on a keychain? Unbelievable.

The drive also has a cap, which is not terribly clear from the photos on NewEgg. I was under the impression that the contacts were designed to be tough enough to resist wear without a cap, but that may not be the case after all.

Other Thoughts: There is a dongle hidden within the packaging. As everyone knows, the plastic packaging these things come in is nearly impossible to open by hand. I used a pair of scissors and cut right through the dongle, as it was hidden behind cardboard on both sides.

The list of things that I want in a USB thumb drive are as follows: (1) rugged construction, (2) speed, (3) capless design, and (4) the ability to fit nicely on a keychain, which perhaps also implies that (5) the drive be reasonably small. A decent price would be great, as well. My desire for these features doesn't seem terribly extraordinary, but it's hard to find drives that have all of them. Sandisk had it right with Ultra Cruzer Titanium -- at least aside from the wimpy keychain ring that has a tendency to fail-- but they discontinued the line. Argh!!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great and is really built for a keyring

Pros: Metal skinned key shaped usb drive that fits right on your keyring like your keys do!

Allows me always have a live copy of puppy linux and about 7Gb of space for files.

Cons: Not the fastest or the slowest.

More care on insert and use, but being able to carry it with me where ever I go far outweighs these cons..

Other Thoughts: Plastic cap cover just throw it away !

5 out of 5 eggsCoolest Flash Drive I've Seen

Pros: It looks like a key and it works as you would expect a flash drive would. Fits in fairly well on my keyring.

Cons: The speed isn't so impressive, but of course that isn't really the selling point for this product.
I've already lost the little plastic piece that friction holds on to protect the connector. I didn't expect it to stick around very long.

Other Thoughts: I give the CooKey a 5/5 because it is all-around pleasing, but if sometime in the future the connector is damaged because it wasn't protected that would deem this product somewhat impractical.

5 out of 5 eggsGot uh have it

Pros: Looks like a key, totally blends in when installed on the key ring. Metal case mounting hole will not break as easily as all those USB dongles with a plastic loop I put on my key ring and lost after the plastic broke.

Cons: End cap for the USB connector is a joke.

Other Thoughts: A fully enclosed USB connector might offer more protection. So far, it really doesn't seem the exposed connector will cause a problem.
