5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast
easy install
did i say fast?

Cons: Would have been nice to get a 3.5" install bracket with it

Other Thoughts: Got it on a really good sale, so the true value is in catching a sale.

2 out of 5 eggsCompatibility issues?

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap
Unique aesthetic

Cons: No software suite/tools
Confusing support options

Other Thoughts: Installed Server 2012 from scratch. Worked fine for a few days, then started to hard crash at short intervals. On reboot, the drive didn't appear in the BIOS boot menu, had to power down and let it sit awhile. Took out the drive and put it in a USB enclosure, wiped it. Writing decently large amounts of data to it would cause it to crash (activity light went dead) and vanish as a USB device. At this point one would go for a low-level format, but Toshiba supplies nothing in the way of tools or utilities...

The RMA was relatively easy, once I figured out that you have to go through Toshiba Acclaim. Unfortunately the replacement drive also hard froze after a couple days. At that point I didn't want to deal with it any more as a system drive and put it in the external for good, for shuttling around unimportant things.

So I think it may be a compatibility issue, maybe with Windows 2012, maybe with old nVidia chipsets, who knows. My Intel and Seagate SSDs have had zero issues.

5 out of 5 eggsWould buy again if on sale.

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -Fast
-No issues installing

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: I don't know why people keep worrying about sequential read/write speeds. That only affects you when you transfer large files, which is usually rare for most people. Real world usage is noticeably fast from 4k random read/writes. As fast and responsive as my Samsung Evo 840 and Kingston V300, even on SATA II.

-Bracket/mount not included.

I'm sure most people are using one main SSD drive and storage disk drives, which would be the bottleneck anyways.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Toshiba SSD - WINNING!!

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: *Excellent Performance!! Read = 325MB+ / Write = 300+
*Great value - err... was - Got mine for 79 shipped
(wait for a sale)
*Lightweight? No..really really lightweight. External Drive duties maybe?

Cons: *Really light weight and flimsy feeling. I feel like I could throw it 200 yards! lol
*No ID on the packaging...very generic looking. No stickers in the packaging to put on it either. Kinda odd.

Other Thoughts: Figured I'd give it a chance. Purchased for my friends build recently. (Refer to my A4-4000 apu review) This thing boots her Windows 7 PC in under 25 seconds. Benchmark speeds are very respectable also.

Crystal Disk Mark -
Read: 351.9 MB/s Write: 336.2 MB/s

AS SSD Benchmark -
Read: 326.09 MB/s Write: 314.40 MB/s

Not bad at all for a sub 100 dollar SSD. Performs twice as good as the Kingston @ the same price (while on sale for 79 dollars). Why it has gone up to $112 is beyond me. I purchased this and the Kingston @ 79 free shipping. See if you can wait it out before jumping on this one. @ 100 or below its a no brainer, but over 100 like it is now you'd be better off buying the Samsung which would run rings around this thing for the same money. Overall, my friend is happy, performance is excellent and Toshiba quality means rock solid reliability. I think I made a good choice.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This SSD works as advertised. Plugged it in and installed windows on it for my laptop. Definitely increased the performance compared to the 5400rpm Hard drive it previously had.

Cons: Looks cheap. The actual SSD is not anything fancy. Luckily, its the performance that really matters.

5 out of 5 eggsA good ssd

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Its a fast SSD. It came wrapped very well

Cons: I wish that all companies would ship good software like other companies With the drives. Or even better a good open source one would come on the scene

Other Thoughts: Overall a good boot drive
Used it for a new FM2+ system.

5 out of 5 eggsecellent

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: so far this drive is excellent.
getting 560 read/ 510 write in ATTO.

excellent performance!

very light

Cons: doesn't come with a toolbox like samsung and intel drives so you have to optimize windows for the drive manually. Numerous guides online detail the process and it shouldn't take more than 10 mins!

3 out of 5 eggsdoes not work with Adaptec 71605 RAID controller

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Works alright with the Intel SATA 3 controller on my motherboard and decent speed at a great price. However...

Cons: I bought 3 of these to use in a RAID 5 array but found they wouldn't work properly with my Adaptec 71605 RAID controller. There were massive numbers of errors, corrupt and broken files when I tried installing and running Windows 7 x64 with them.

Other Thoughts: I also just tried using them separately (non-boot) in RAID 5 and 0 to install games on but still resulted in broken and corrupt files. I am running fine on a pair of Vertex 4s now and sold these off.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little drive

This review is from: Toshiba Q Series HDTS212XZSTA 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Was tasked with making some old office machines usable, these drives made some old Celeron machines quicker to use than some of the new i7 machines we have

Cons: Smallish, but perfect for workstations that already use network file storage
