1 out of 5 eggsInconveniently slow.

Pros: 4.1 Mbps transfer rates are agonizingly slow. tested on 6 of these. This is much slower than burning to a disk, it is a step in the wrong direction. would never buy again.

Cons: The male USB prong retracts, making it nearly impossible to pulg into all but the loosest of sockets.

Other Thoughts: Waste of money and time.

5 out of 5 eggsPut thru hell and back and still works

Pros: slide never fails. I have 2 other similar USB sticks (one Kensington and the other Memorex) and both eventually won't stay closed. The slide lock on this thing never failed (was on my work keychain for 2 years).

Cons: None. I just wish I wouldn't have wasted money on the Kensington 16GB. I should have stuck with this Sandisk design.

Other Thoughts: I've owned this thing for a while but I'm just now posting this review because I recently washed it. Yes... I left the thing in my work shirt pocket and washed it. I didn't throw it through the dryer. I (very carefully) disassembled it, patted it down with a lint free cloth, and stood it up to dry for a day and like magic, pulled the files off of it later on that night.

5 out of 5 eggsSanDisk Cruzer USB 2.0 8GB Flash Drive

Pros: Its a great device convenient and reliable. Such an easy way to transfer and store files from one computer to another and it's cheap

Cons: sometimes when inserting it into the USB port the mechanism will slide back in, but no big deal

Other Thoughts: Such an innovative product from the advancement of integration technology. Over 20 years ago when I built my first computer I would have never thought that such a device would be possible. I paid $240. for a 30MB Seagate RLL Hard Drive in 1990 and that was a good deal then.

1 out of 5 eggsCompatible with Win 7 - sort of

Pros: Small? Nice cap-free design? Good company with good reputation? Was on sale at a local brick and mortar store, and I wanted them here and now, so I got them here and now? (Yeah, I got a few in a few different sizes for different purposes. All very slow. Big mistake.)

Cons: Painfully slow. No wonder SandDisk doesn't publish speed data on these. Too slow to use for Readyboost (on Windows 7 64bit anyhow, and I think the specs are the same for all versions that do readyboost.) Took so long to format, that I don't think they'd be useful to me at all. By comparison, I have a good quality brand <specific name withheld for product review guideline reasons> 4 GB Flash drive, gotten a few years ago on sale at the Egg (the Egg Rules!) which is lightning fast by comparison. And it is the slow one in said brand's lineup. I just assumed that these brand new SanDisk ones would be at least as fast, what with USB 2.0 being fairly mature, and the marketing hype. Oh no, not at all.

Other Thoughts: It says on the package, "Compatible with Windows 7 ." Apparently "Compatible" does not mean able to be used for all functions, such as ReadyBoost. Nor does it mean that it is fast enough to, say, format, before MS discontinues support for Windows 7. Pathetically slow. Really a disappointment.

1 out of 5 eggsPainfully slow

Pros: I was able to return it for a refund and buy a faster drive.

Cons: Painfully S...L......O............W. After it took more than a day to install the OS (which normally takes 20 mins), this flash drive was so slow that one OS timed out during boot. I ran the h2benchw benchmark which reported astoundingly horrible performance (most disappointing: 2.48 seconds maximum random write access speed). The worst-performing flash drives in a recent Tom's Hardware roundup were still more than twice as fast as this drive on various metrics.

Other Thoughts: If you just need to copy a few files every once in a while, this drive will probably suit you fine. But if you need to copy large batches of files or if you want to use it as a boot drive, get something else. I tried installing Solaris/OpenIndiana, then Nexenta Core, on this drive. Both installs took more than a day; typically the install takes 20 minutes on a normal hard drive.

3 out of 5 eggsS...L...O...W!!! WRITE SPEED

Pros: Very reliable so far!

Cons: Write speed is very PAINFULLY S...L...O...W!!!

Other Thoughts: I needed a flash drive in a hurry and bought this Sandisk Cruzer flash drive at Walmart. I formatted it NTSF. It has been very reliable so far but the write speed is PAINFULLY slow. I would not recommend this Sandisk Cruzer drive because of the s...l...o...w write speed. I own a Crucial Gizmo 8gb flash drive (MODEL JDOD8GB-730) that I bought from Newegg later, and it is MUCH, MUCH, FASTER than this Sandisk Cruzer drive. I highly recommend the Crucial Gizmo drive over this Sandisk Cruzer!

1 out of 5 eggsSave your time and money!

Pros: Plug and play USB. Easy to use for even the modest of computer users.

Cons: Not a U3 drive! Sandisk and many other companies used to provide a program with their thumb drives (even the cheap ones) which enabled you to password protect the entire drive. One of the reasons that Sandisk became so popular. Now that they have built their company, they seem to know longer care about the consumer and if you want a u3 drive, plan to spend 3-4x the price of what they were a year ago. I even spoke with a company rep who had no explanation of why the price of an 8GB thumb drive had tripled in price over the last year! I have bought many thumb drives in the past several years. I have actually bought 4-5 of them. Until the newest generation came out, I was a happy consumer. Now I switched to PNY drive. So much happier! Still miss the u3 programming but where else can you find a drive that can survive a trip through the washing machine! Seriously! Definitely not from SanDisk! Please don't buy this drive and maybe they will get the hint to improve their product again

4 out of 5 eggs8gb Flash Drive Review - Sandisk

Pros: Low cost
Durable case with a retracting usb port
Works with Ubuntu (ext4/fat32), without any hiccups
Reliable, never disconnects even after weeks of slight activity being my backup drive.

Cons: Very slow write speeds. On my old P4B-LX usb 1.1 spec, I'm lucking to get 1mbps of sustained write. (still less that the transfer speeds of my modem when using the usb connection, that averages 1400kbps so I know theres room for improvement.)

Other Thoughts: Decent for the cost, just don't use it for a mobile boot drive or something that has to be speed dependent.

3 out of 5 eggsReliable drive but slow Write speeds.

Pros: Reliable, Has proven to be durable, So far it has survived over 1.6 years of me taking it everywhere and I also use it with my car stereo, Retractable usb is a lot more convenient than having a cap. Decent Read speeds.

Cons: SLLOOOWWWWWW Write, Seriously Its amazing how slow the Write speeds are on this device, I use this in my car a lot so im always transferring albums etc. and in Win 7 it averages 2 - 3MB/sec write speeds, I have an OLD 1GB Patriot Xporter usb flash drive and it writes at 10-11MB/s in comparison.

Other Thoughts: Ive had this flash drive for awhile,I paid a lot for it (8gb was expensive back then) and although its been reliable and has taken a lot of abuse Im ready to upgrade to a newer / faster drive.

I gave it 3 of 5 stars only because newegg has much faster drives of the same size & similar prices, BUT If write speed is not an issue for you then this is a good drive.

1 out of 5 eggsonly 3.7 gb after format

Pros: Small and Convenient

Cons: Slow, but that is still ok

Other Thoughts: I had this for 3 or more months was working fine. but something scrambled my data. Windows said I needed to format to access drive. I had back-ups so not worried. This drive would not format to more that 3.7 gb no matter how I formatted I'm real frustrated whit SanDisk Cruzer Never again
