With hard drive failures being one of the most common computer problems, the SanDisk Extreme SSD is engineered to help reduce time and money spent on support and file recovery.

The SanDisk Extreme SSD is rated at 2 million hours mean time before failure♦ (MTBF), making it a smart long-term investment for your business.

Easy Upgrade Defers Replacement Costs

Quiet and Energy-Efficient

System Requirements and Warranty Information

The SanDisk Extreme SSD uses the SATA 6 Gb/s standard connection and is backward compatible with SATA 3 Gb/s and SATA 1.5 Gb/s. It measures 0.39 by 3.96 by 2.78 inches (H x W x D) and works with any computer that has a 2.5-inch hard drive.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent but not without problems

Pros: Still running after two years.
Fast read speed: clocked at 510 mb/s
Decent write speed: clocked at 300-400mb/s
I get to the log on screen in less than ten seconds.
Startup apps are loaded very quickly.

Cons: Random os crashes on start up that are fixed after restarting the computer any where from 1-3 times with Windows 8. Completely crashed when updating to Windows 8.1. Oddly, I haven't had any issues when running Windows 7: this is after I did a clean install.

Other Thoughts: I bought this SSD because I wanted to load flight simulators much quicker. The difference is drastic: from 1-2 minutes for loading to around 20-30 seconds of loading. This somewhat offsets the problems I had with the drive, but recently the drive has been running perfectly... so mixed emotions on the drive.

I haven't run Windows 8 in about 6-8 months so I don't know if it was the OS or a driver problem. I had the issue even after I flashed the SSD with the newest firmware.

Overall, it was worth the money because it is still running. When I do buy another SSD I can give a better metric on how it performs. Would buy again.

1 out of 5 eggsSSD Extreme 240GB... Died...

Pros: Fast as any other SSDs out there...

Cons: Died after 2 years of service in a notebook... Sad! Always thought of SanDisk as a reliable brand... Right until the SSDs died.. Suddenly! With no sign of weakness... Last Saturday tried to boot my notebook... It almost made all the way to the login screen and then froze... Never happened before! And apparently never will... Upon reboot the notebook did not detect it. Went south and took with it a lot of info I acquired over the business trip. Cr@p!

Other Thoughts: Only after 2 years? Last time I checked the drive had roughly about 2TB of data written on it. Very disappointed with SanDisk! Time to find a new maker!

1 out of 5 eggsAnother sandisk paperweight

Pros: It's an SSD, it should be awesome. It was. A long, long time ago.

Cons: Died in about a year. A sandisk SSD that dies in a year, after my previous sandisk SSD died in a year... what terrible products.

Other Thoughts: I bought a Sandisk 120GB SSD just over 2 years ago. It died after 11-12 months of use. Sandisk tech support (after about a month delay) sent me a Sandisk 240GB Extreme SSD. Fresh install, good as new (I thought).

Fast forward to now. After another 12 month period, the 240GB Extreme is dead.

Will Sandisk send me a 480TB EXTREME XXVI SSD that dies in 12 months? Is it even worth my time? I'd prefer to just have my money back.

tl;dr

120GB SSD dead after 12 months
240GB SSD dead after 12 months
What's next?

5 out of 5 eggsAfter 6 Months of Use...

Pros: Plenty of Pros: I have had zero issues with the drive and it has worked beautifully from day one. I did patch it with the latest firmware when I first got it as a precaution and Sandisk's software support was easy to use. They even have a "youtube" like tutorial walkthrough for most things.

Drive boots up beautifully and has been reliable over the last 6 months.

Cons: Outside of price I got exactly what I paid for. One minor con might be that it didn't come with a 3.5" bracket but there are plenty of inexpensive and simple solutions available on NewEgg. In a pinch one could just keep it loose in a desktop option or secure it with a single screw while waiting for a solution to arrive.

Other Thoughts: This was my first swim in the SSD market and am glad I took the plunge. The drive is invaluable as a springboard for larger to load programs like 3ds max, ZBrush, Photoshop and Aftter Effects. When planning a build try and plan to have your major software suits on the main SSD and displace all non-essential files and programs to more traditional storage solutions (Mechanical HDs)

SanDisks's site and support felt solid and professional (firmware update) but I have not had any major issues with the drive so I have not seen "the other side" of customer support yet.

2 out of 5 eggsDisk died after less than a year

Pros: Fast. Nice capacity for a SSD.

Cons: Died. OS is locking up. Running SpinRite on it, and finding unrecoverable sectors.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Very fast read and write speeds.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I've only been running two of these for about a week now, but as long as they don't break on me, they are great!

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Like Extreme 4?

Pros: This drive is fast.

Cons: Wouldn't work in Intel SATA ports on my Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 Mobo. I kept getting BSOD with 0x000000F4 error. After lots of unsuccessful attempts to fix this, I finally installed the Asmedia SATA 3 drivers and the drive worked in there, but slower - Which is why people prefer to use the Intel slots. Then I started getting program crashes followed by windows crashes. Tried to reformat and couldn't install Windows 7!

Nothing worked. Secure erase didn't help. Clean all command in cmd prompt finally helped. Still couldn't use Intel ports, not even SATA 2 ports! Got windows installed but had corrupt files so I finally gave up after DAYS of trying. I tested everything... RAM, removed hardware, updated BIOS and all latest drivers. Finally I bought a mechanical hard-drive. Popped that in and everything worked completely normally just as you would expect. Slower... but in a way a 1 minute boot-up is better than a 20 second boot-up that crashes and corrupts everything it touches.

Other Thoughts: Weird part: I put this drive in a cheap Asus AMD build and it works fine (though the board only supports SATA 2). That's why I gave 2 stars...

Like another reviewer on here, this was an upgrade from a perfectly functional, smaller SSD. Ugh.

Oh and I bought this from Newegg on an auction site sale and a week after I got it they said they couldn't RMA but I could try going through Sandisk... I won't forget that one Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

My name is Allen from SanDisk support. The drive may not be functioning on Asrock Extreme 4 Z77because of multiple reasons. We would need to look into possible factors towards isolating this issue.

We would also suggest you to please update the firmware of your SSD using the link below:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10476/

I would also strongly recommend you to update your intel RST SATA driver as BSOD on a particular SATA controller has been to be observed to be driver related.

For further assistance resolving your issue, please contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SANDISK or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/support.We will assist you towards a resolution including a possible warranty replacement.

Thank you,
Allen,
SanDisk support

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performer for me

Pros: Been running 24/7 as my main OS drive, since I built this rig, last April. No hiccups with this drive since day one. Still has 50GB free. Loaded with Win7 Pro, Adobe CS5 Master Suite, Lightroom 4.4, Battlefield 3, VMWare Wrkstn, Office Enterprise, Qiuckbooks, Acronis, and lots of other cr@p. I multi task like a mother, running LR4, PS, Premiere, Encore, plus Chrome running tabs all at once. I feel this drive hangs with the cpu and ram just fine. I just need more storage space now.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD5 LGA 2011 Intel X79
